He's done and gone. I reckon now that he had made his mind up straight after Wembley and would have gone regardless of what we offered him.

But that's the point, it was a few weeks from the end of his contact and we hadn't even offered him anything.

If we'd offered him an improved contract and tied him down, then the Cambridge offer becomes irrelevant.

The club ****ed up in not getting him and Timlin signed up. We let a fantastic asset walk out of the door and I can understand Corr being miffed by the way he was apparently treated.

I think hunt is vital to our attacking play...oozes class and guile....The right partner would benefit greatly...hopefully mooney or pig step up.

I disagree, in my opinion Corr would not be up to the standard of league one football. I say move on, we have better strikers now.

Disagree with what? I can't say for sure if Corr is up to league 1 standards but we know that he's a handful for any defence and has scored goals against teams in L1 and higher.

The club ****ed up by not offering a deal in the spring. They then ****ed up by not offering a deal straight after our promotion. It suggests that Brown or the club weren't too fussed in trying to keep in, and so fair enough that Corr looked for alternative options.

Corr was offered a new deal with wage increase but could double his wages at Cambridge. We were never going to match that offer, so HE moved on. Like all players who move for money they then try to fool fans by quoting the same old excuses, want to win trophies, don't like the system, family reasons etc.

You are probably right on the Brown not being to fussed bit. Hunt looks far nearer the PB model forward (within budget) than Corr ever will. Lets see on Saturday.

Was he really treated so badly? He would have known that his contract was not going to be sorted out until after the season was completed. Timlin was approached by far more clubs than Corr yet still committed to Southend so hardly shows that the club ****ed up as you put it.

I also think it is highly unlikley that a player would want to committ to the club without knowing what division they would be in the next season. Normally I would put this down to a player wanting to test themself at a higher level and would not have blamed either for moving up a divsion had we not got promoted. Clearly though in Corr's case it was the complete opposite!

It's a job, and one that doesn't last long.

Just like it would be for many of us the deciding factor on what job to take is wages and that is what I understand it was in this case and I for one don't blame him at all.

I don't necessarily blame him for going for a job with more wages, and none of us know the true story of the amounts involved.

It does though also show a lack of ambition on his behalf which does somewhat burst the whole BBBC legend that some have built up on here

At the risk of being even more off topic, he's gone and won't be back in a Southend shirt. Grateful for all he did whilst here, but it now belongs in the EX Shrimpers thread. time to move on.

Barry says to his mrs,

Hey hun I am ambitious and want to play league 1 but they are only offering 2k per week, but Cambridge are offering double but in league 2.

His Mrs throws every cup and plate at him for being selfish to his family.

Saturday is our second League game back in League 1 and I just want to set the post-match SZ rules :-

1) We Win : your post must state that we are unbeaten and have a squad that can easily gain back-to-back promotions !
2) We Draw : your post must say that we will plod along in mid table as Brown will never recognise a decent striker.
3) We Lose : your post must say we haven't won a game and are relegation fodder - Brown out !

Please stick to the above.
Rational and logical arguments not accepted !

As part of 3) are we allowed to bemoan the fact that a 442 formation would have won us the game?

Last season our home form was nearly our downfall, i do hope this not repeated this term. Some new players so. im keeping my fingers x, il go for a 1 0 win Barrett from a corner.

Please not Weston up front, he is not a striker. You either have that natural strikers instinct or you don't and he doesnt. Mooney and Hunt for me, with Wordsworth, Timlin, Worrall and Leonard behind.

Bentley
White , Bolger , Barrett , Coker
Worral , Wordsworth , Leonard , Timlin
Pigott + Hunt or Mooney

subs : Smith , Prosser , Weston , Payne , Deegan + Hunt or Mooney and either Atkinson or Hurst

What he said - above - innit. We need players on the pitch who have the intention and know-how of putting the ball in the net. End of. Fact. Bell-ends all round.
