ADAM Crowther is aiming to play a big part at both ends of the pitch when Southend United host Tamworth on Saturday.

The Shrimpers centre back is keen to help Kevin Maher’s side build on their run of three successive clean sheets.

But he is also determined to start posing more problems in attack being disappointed with a chance he missed in Wednesday night’s 0-0 draw at Aldershot Town.

“It was very disappointing, I’ve got to score basically,” said Crowther.

“I’ll be working on that a lot on the training ground because I get in good areas and need to improve that side of things.

“I have scored a lot of goals in the past but I could’ve scored plenty more here already and I need to improve that because that could’ve been the difference on Wednesday night.”

Crowther has yet to score for Blues so far this season but he has been more successful in keeping them out in recent weeks.

However, the 23-year-old knows a clean sheet cannot be taken for granted against Tamworth who head to Roots Hall sitting 12th in the table.

“I played them last year before I came here so I know exactly what they’re like,” said Crowther.

“It’s going to be very physical and a very tough test.

“The ball will be launched into our box from all sorts of angles and they’ve got a long throw which is going to shock a few I think.”

But Crowther is looking to lead the way in shutting Tamworth out.

“It will be a really tough test and probably an important one for myself as one of the taller lads,” said the defender.

“I’ll be hoping to deal with what comes into the box.

“It’s a different test to what we’ve had recently but it’s something you’ve got to deal with.

“It should be my bread and butter so I’ve got to turn up and do my job.”

Blues, who are unbeaten in three games, are 15th going into the match.

And Crowther feels the Shrimpers are now back on track after an inconsistent run of results.

“It’s been really pleasing recently and hopefully we’ve turned a corner now,” said Crowther.

“It probably wasn’t good enough for a period in the middle but long may this form continue now.”

I think the players will be right in the mood for Tamworth, should be a great game and i reckon theyll be raining shots at them. Win it and we'll have the whole week to prep for a cup upset with Charlton, then the city will come alive when we get the away tie at Arsenal in the next round and Kev Maher buys some seriious strikers with the money to see us win at Wembley in 2025.
We are overdue some serious luck and remember, it all started with that extra time winner at Eastleigh with the just desserts from their cheating goalkeeper and centre back Fernandez !
Hate it to break it to you but this is round 1 of the cup. So we won’t beat Arsenal until we’ve knocked out Charlton and Birmingham in the second round.

I think we await the return of Miley afore Husin gives way.
My worry is the poor officiating suffered for the last three seasons doesn't favour KAF.
Like Terrell before him, and for no fathomable reason, refs assume smaller players being fouled is part of the laws. Note Wednesday.
This is nothing if not a physical league, and the men in the middle will not give you a free kick if a) your shirt is being ripped off your back in the box, b) nor a penalty, short of a machine-gunning; c) but the second a keeper is blown over by an autumnal leaf: the game stops for a minimum half an hour. Well, something like that...

If Miley was to return it would be Morton making way I imagine. I’ve been impressed with Morton recently, and he certainly deserves a spot in the starting lineup more than Husin. But it hasn’t really worked when him and Miley have played together.

apart from the thumping of Boringwood at home last season

I agree, Morton is suited to the 6 role. He isn't affective on the half turn in the 8 role. He tends to go more sideways in that position, whereas in the 6, he is facing the play and plays more forward passes. Miley has to start when fit though and so does Coker. It's a toss up for the other spot out of the remaining midfielders.
