I don't know what's going on with this thread , but I was always told never to accept sweets from strange men , so I'm keeping well away from this.

Me and my son are season ticket holders so home games a defo. Didn't go to the Brighton game but both decided after the last two home performances that we would like to go tonight, firstly was interested to see Ranger, then found out he wont be playing, but quite like the look of Cox and Fortune, so booked my tickets last night. I agree that the trophy in itself is a farce, but this game tonight is a first team fixture against one of our local rivals. Should be more intense than playing a prem/champ U23 side so why not give it a go? Also regardless of what you think of the tournament, its not the players fault, so why not go and support them, they need our support more than ever at the moment.

As someone mentioned earlier, it would be more of a message if people boycotted the U21 match and turned up in droves for the other two group matches.

No one I know went to the Brighton game, there's a few going tonight as its against a 'proper team' and I understand their stance on that front. However I still wont be going and neither will I be for any other EFL Trophy game. I think it would be quite amusing for the final of this trophy this year to be between 2 academy sides and Wembley will be empty
Said it before and I will say it again, I am willing to bet against any academy team getting to Wembley. Profit paid to zone

That's pretty much my stance.
I boycotted the U23 game to make the point that they were not welcome in this competition however tonight's game is Southend's 1st XI against an O's 1st XI so I'm happy to go and watch that.
I'm hoping that the supporters of all the other clubs will continue the boycott throughout the competition of any games against an U23 side, that will spread the impact on gate money across most of the League One and Two teams as fairly as it can.
There has been some talk of calling the boycott off as the 'B' teams issue now appears to be dead, I, on the other hand, think the U23 boycott should continue throughout the competition and should we progress to the next round and be faced with an U23 team I will resume my boycott for that game; and that will also include any possible Wembley Final against an U23 side.

I have said it before , i'm willing to take bets that no U23 team gets to the final. I just can't see it happening , not unless one of the clubs takes it rally seriously and one of the U23 teams picks 5 over 21's from their proper squad and likewise packs the bench with players from their proper squad

Personally I am looking forward to tonight . I understand the reasons for others going and respect their decisions , but for me now that I am comfortable that this is not a back door to B teams in the league I am happy to go.

· I also appreciate the extra cash the club will receive from the trophy this year
· I appreciate the opportunity of more great memories--- I wouldn’t want to miss another moment like when Ben Reeves scored to take us to Wembley- just because we were playing an U21 team
· I appreciate the opportunities it gives the manager to try new ideas, and for players to keep/regain fitness - things that will help in the league
· I appreciate the chance of another trip to Wembley

Well, you know me and I went! :raspberry:

I might be shot down here, but I like the format of the competition now. (Not the U23 teams bit), but the little mini league bit.

The old JPT sometimes was over without even being noticed, at least this way there are 3 games to play, and allthough there might be a few dead rubbers in the last round of games, there is a little bit more excitement.

Looking at the results of the first round of games I would be amazed if more than 2 or 3 U23 teams got to the 2nd round, let alone all the way to Wembley, although it could all change tonight of course.

These games are a bonus for getting some squad game time and far better than reserve or friendly fixtures. I understand the arguments put forward against this Cup BUT believe the positives outweigh the negatives.

For what it's worth, I'm looking forward to the game tonight, I would like us to win and I would like us to go all the way to the final of the competition. If we get there I will be going to Wembley regardless of the opposition. If others don't want any part of that, that's their choice. Me, I would really enjoy a day out at Wembley supporting Southend United.

Apart from the actual finals we are one of the true giants of the ldv vans trophy. Not all clubs boast such a proud record.
