With all the uncertainty about player availability. It was wise to water the pitch yesterday to create an ice ring today.?Postponed…..
Did someone water the pitch yesterday? You'd better be hotfooting it to LHR already!
currently only 4 fixtures out of 10 NL games showing as being ON at the minuteBarnet, Oldham, Maidenhead, Fylde and Gateshead have already postponed their home games as well.
Probably works out well for us the state we’re in. A shame though, going to be bored tomorrow now!
Only the games at Aldershot, Boston and Yeovil left now.currently only 4 fixtures out of 10 NL games showing as being ON at the minute
In the last scenario you forgot the 'we'd be storming the league if we had kept Fonguck and Powell' brigades.Sticking my neck out and saying we will either
Win 1-0 and be criticised on SZ for being dull and boring
Draw 0-0, same as above but greater frequency of 'crab footballs' and 'Maher outs'
Win 4-0 but only because Halifax are the worst team to play Southend since 1906.
Lose by a narrow margin leading to full on hysterical attack on Bonne, Husin, COSU, Maher, John Still, Stan Collymore, new burger bars and the white board plus intensified calls to 'recall Wood' and to 'give Waldron a chance'.
To be fair to the Club and specifically ground staff, from my vantage point it would seem that realistically, they have done all they could have done to get the match on. 'There's been a bright golden haze rising above Roots Hall' (Rogers & Hammerstein should be worried!) for a good few weeks now suggesting that heaters (more than one) have been employed in an attempt to keep the pitch from freezing. Also the floodlights have been on the last few nights, so it would suggest more work being carried out on the pitch into the evening, possibly the covers being replaced after the lamps have been switched off?
As an aside Highbury was the first ground in the country to have under pitch 'heating' and Filbert Street used cover the pitch (not whilst a match was being played!) with a 'bubble', inflated with warm air in an attempt to defy the weather.
Sometimes though, Mother Nature wins...
