Official Match Thread Southend United v Carlisle United

I wonder if Acquah winning free kicks is a deliberate ploy. Like he looks like a big strong lump and defenders probably brace themselves for a physical challenge and next thing Emile is on the floor.

I mean it works - maybe he’s been watching clips of Anthony grant - but but embarrassing if he’s not actually got any strength given the size of him. Should be bossing defenders.

Total disaster. We got away with the last 'who's going to take it' penalty (just). This time the apparent lack of a designated penalty taker could cost us our League status. Akinola stuttered, playing the clever boy, waiting to see which way the keeper was going to dive. Then, instead of hitting it in the opposite corner, hit a really soft shot the side he dived to. Too upset to talk about much else.

Not likely to be supported by many but may have to bring on Bwomono at right back and release Demi into midfield or the other way around. Elvis might show a bit more energy. RHF not sure how far to defend and has given the ball away 5 times, not much confidence or direct successful play from him so far
Ricky Holmes may do better in midfield with his experience if needs be

Really feels like the manager pinned all his hopes on Olayinka and as soon as he isn't playing, MM and the players look lost and devoid of ideas.

You could see 5 mins in that the midfield was going to get over run. Needed changing... and still does. What on earth was the point in signing Mellis. On paper one would assume he would be perfect to come in and shore up the midfield, obviously not.

The pen incident was disgraceful. You either let your original pen taker to take it (Demi) or the player who scored the last pen. Like to think that Macca would have dictated who took it if he was still on the pitch.

And where has that got us? You think this lot give a toss about messages of support? They care about getting paid.
TB, we all know the mess we are in but we have to try and support the team, they certainly won't be inspired by continual whinging. Imagine being at work where someone continually says you are crap, that is hardly going to do any good. I deplore it at Roots Hall when so called fans continually shout abuse, the only reaction they'll get is a bad one and if that's what they get off on then maybe they should consider taking their 'support' elsewhere. The positive messages that were sent to MM and co this week would certainly not have done any harm and i applaud everyone who took part in that, don't diss a bit of effort from fans trying to show their team some encouragement.

Makes you wonder if as supporters we would have been allowed into the ground to watch the games the players might (and I say might) have upped their performances
I think they need to be thankful that we are not in the ground watching this

JD is the penalty taker, and he has a good penalty record. A lot of times a striker wants to take it, but you say no. ANG got away with it last time. So Akinola tries it on this time, as he badly needs a goal. JD needs to be strong and say ''No, I take the penalties''. Akinola had zero confidence on that penalty. Weak management as well, to let this happen two games on the trot. Like Paul Clark said, you go into a game knowing who will take a penalty, not decide as it's given, as the wrong idiots want to take it.

I cannot fathom a professional player missing a penalty in that fashion. If the keeper saves well, then fair enough. Why not just f*****g smash it!!!!!!!! Sums up the season, with that showing I do truly feel we could be done.
