I marked Myles as a 5 in my match ratings.

I have always defended him; for I think that his contributions are under estimated by others on here. He continually chases the lost cause and creates lots of space for others. Yesterday though (the chase down for the goal excepted) the rest of his performance was comical, many times he mis-controlled the ball, tried to dribble without it and made some poor attempts at passing, and of course he missed that sitter!

trouble is I expect the occasional league goal from a striker , or wide man or even midfielder. Dreadful record, no league goals this year , although appreciate injury. Worst spell for any club in 9 years, released by Gillingham as not being up to scratch in a poorer side a couple of years back. But provides wonderful entertainment if a simple chance arrives by falling over or completely missing the ball. Phill talks a lot about quality in the final third??
Phill fanfared his prowess as a striker along with his other early signings , Barnard and Coulthirst. I optimistically said at vest he might score 8 goals a season. Oh dear, bye bye Westy but thanks for that brilliant unforgettable moment, always engraved, but time to move on to Braintree or somewhere like that?

It was a very poor performance and one that lacked any real quality whatsoever. Jack Paynes goal was his only contribution.

The system didn't work and I'm wondering why we loaned the defender from ipswich as he would surely have been an improvement on Thompson yesterday who had a total nightmare game and looked like a non league player. His distribution was dire.
Don't get me started on deegan. He was abysmal yesterday and is nowhere near the quality required at this level.

The sad thing for me yesterday was the endeavour and attitude was poor and we just didn't look like a team at all.

I rate PB but his style of football needs to change and he will need to perform a major overhaul next season as he will probably need to bring in 8+ players.

Fleetwood kept the ball so much better than us and their movement off the ball was very good. Ours as it has been all season was non existent.

The season is dying a very slow death.

Hadn't realised he was one of those up for a new contract, yes, I think you could be right.

I think Deegan has now been found out for what he doesn't bring to the team, mainly goals or creativity from midfield. I think we all go into shock if he gets a shot on target. He has now got the Atkinson syndrome of passing sideways or backwards.
We have a huge problem defending down one side with White and Thompson. Our top scorer has a paltry 9 goals. Nowhere near good enough for promotion. We have players worth building the team around, but new faces to sort out our problem area's are a must for a promotion push next season.

Ok fair enough.

My only gripe would have been Weston doesn't possess the strikers brain, his scoring record supports this .

Cannot understand bringing Loza here as he rarely plays.

it didnt matter who it brought on, we went into panic mode and it looked like we were playing a 6-4-0 formation. We had no one to clear to, and worse than that the players that were back just got in each others way- you then get 'collective responsibility' instead of people having an individual job to do and doing it. I didn't look over to Phil to see if he was happy or not about how we were playing

Apart from when he turned and passed with the outside of his boot to set up Payne for his goal.

With Wordsworth and Timlin sitting in the stands with injuries I cant see who else PB could have picked.

All negative players have to pass the ball forward at some point, and that just shows why they should do it more often. In general, Deegan and Atkinson are looking to pass the ball sideways.

Agreed, they look for the easy ball which rarely threatens the opposition, add the fact that Deegan hasn't scored in his last 77 appearance,it doesn't bode well.

Deegan and Leonard are totally different players! They might be supposed to play the same role but one can and one can't!!!

Loza? Are you sure and were you there? :omg:

I agree to some extent on the second point though I think Worrall does have defensive qualities in his game.

I can't stand Loza! My point was that starting Leonard in place of a striker against a struggling team was a negative move. I obviously could have made my point clearer, but for what it's worth I certainly wouldn't have started Loza and would definitely start Leonard next game as he was the best of the midfield 3.

And yes Worrall was certainly the better of the wing backs, I don't want to see McLaughlin starting in that position ever again, Worrall I wouldn't have so much of a problem with.

A few weeks back we had lots of posts saying width is the answer. With two wide men in the team I would have thought that would be the obvious option.

Deegan was often looking forward but Barnett and Payne were not at their sharpest yesterday.

He never produced any decent crosses though. Our best cross was in the first few minutes from McLaughlin, very similar and from the same place as their 2nd goal. The only difference is no one attacked ours at the far post.

McLaughlin's corners are another plus, good height and pace which allowed Barrett to score. Coker has been poor all season in that area, corners and free kicks.

Agree that McLaughlin's cross was very good but he was dire defensively and I stand by my point, I don't want him playing as wing back ever again. Start him as a proper left winger and maybe we'll see those sort of crosses more frequently.

Deeg and Atkin in their last 153 games collectedly have managed just FOUR GOALS,so a fifth of the outfield will rarely ever score, just my opinion but I want all of the outfield players chipping in with goals.

I know you said you weren't their yesterday but Deegan and Atkinson done their Job. After all we can't have Jack Payne protecting a back three. Me I more than happy that a couple of second choice low paid players have had a good season for us. With all our injuries its great that they have.

Next season these same guys will get us relegated !

12 points from the last 12 games ...or without checking 21 points from the last 19 games or thereabouts.

So we had 2 defensive midfield players protecting the back 4 yet still conceded 2 against struggling Fleetwood .

I don't think you're getting it. I'm not just talking about yesterdays game. They both look to pass sideways first, if the sideways ball isn't on they tend to turn around and pass it back. How many assists do you think Deegan and Atkinson have between them in all those games? It doesn't matter if wide players are on the pitch or not, they play the same way. I just think it's time for a new positive mentality and midfielders that can create and score goals. Payne gets so fed up with it when he's screaming for the ball and they ignore him to go sideways or back. He ends up dropping deep to get the ball himself.

Nail on head !

Not just Payne though,Barnett will make a run but rarely gets the ball,so he too begins to lose the will to bust a gut.
