We played well and 20 shots with 8 on target indicates we are creating plenty of opportunities. On top of that Hunt and Mooney give us quality up front we have not had for a long while- Mooneys all round play was excellent and the goals will come (he is a proven goalscorer at this level). Agree with the comments that if Hunt plays the vast majority of games then we will be fine- maybe more than fine. He was excellent again and some of the link up play between them was top drawer.

Thought Mooney and Hunt worked really well together, sure Mooney had a few chances he could have put away but his passing was on point and not many strikers we've had recently would have got into those positions. Rea and White looked really solid, Worrall didn't do so much but their left back had more pace than some at this level. I thought Wordsworth wasn't as bad as people are saying, a hit slow on the defensive side but played some neat and incisive passes in the transition between the middle and final thirds (where last season we might have just tried to ping it at Corr). I would stick with this side for upcoming games.

Just see the highlights on sky, great header from hunt... Must say watching them Coker looked involved in everything. His forward runs looked unstoppable. Still gutted I missed it!

Enjoyed that game, the better side one. Good performance, albeit against a very poor side.
Bentley his commanding self but got away with misjudging a corner (though very well taken).
Full backs White and Coker decent as usual having been well tested by the tricky wide men. Coker's distribution is very good.
Good balance in the centre of defence, Barrett lucky not to have conceded a pen every time their big lump of a centre half came forward. Nice to see him stick one in the net. I like it when he goes forward, opponents don't quite know what to make of it (not sure anyone does really but good finish!).

Timlin in my opinion is better in the centre, much better footballer than Shakespeare who seems clueless on the ball most of the time. Lucky not to have been booked (not that I believe he 'should' have) but certainly would never take that out of his game. He naturally comes in as he's clearly more comfortable there. What this does do though is free up the space for Coker's marauding up the pitch. Leonard definitely a MOTM contender purely based on work rate and desire, personified by his late forage into the corner to run the clock down. A few good cross field Gerrard type balls always catch the eye, good when they come off but would like to see him do more of the simple stuff better though. Not a criticism, still young, still learning - he needs to gain a bit of composure both in his shorter passing and certainly his shooting technique and yes I do remember 'that' goal last season. His dive was criminal, I hope he doesn't ever do that again, especially on telly, so not MOTM for me I'm afraid. AB gets my vote.
Worrall is a lovely little footballer, really rate him and again he didn't disappoint.

Up top Mooney and Hunt seemed to get in each other's way but improved greatly together in the second half.
It'll come and when it does there won't be any defence
looking forward to be facing those two when they hit it
off.

Pigott is a much better player than his brief appearance today, I felt for him a bit as I think had he come on earlier and got into the rhythm of the match, he's have scored a couple.

Winning breeds winning, a great habit to have and next week's game at home to Shrewsbury seems to have at the right time.

Norwichshrimper;1784688 Finally a word on Peterborough? what's happened to them. I'd have thought them to be one of the strongest teams this year said:
That was Alex Davey, on loan from Chelsea and apparently highly rated. Extraordinary haircut. Played next to the beast Almeida Santos from Portugal who Adam Barrett was getting to grips with in the penalty area. I think between them they had about 10 misplaced passes, several which went straight out of play.

Quite impressed with the size of the crowd yesterday, Att 5,748. Considering it was on Sky, that's not bad.

I haven't watched the game since being at home, at the game I kept saying we should be winning by a country mile etc.

my 11 y/o son watched it after we got home and said that most of their chances could have easily resulted in goals, two off the line, should have had a pen and also hitting the crossbar. Yes we deserved to win and yes we could have scored more but so could they. But it's a learning curve this league, decent draws at all away games, a decent performance at home to Swindon and now the first win. We are defo going in the right direction and really see us as a mid table team which for our first season back at this level would be decent. Like others have said the front two look good, but need to hit the net (although three goals in two games not bad), midfield still working progress, would like to see McLaughlin and Worrall as the wide players with Timo and Leonard in the middle, defence a few shaky moments, we do seem to sit off teams a bit this season which isn't helping.

all in all after 6 games, many positives and the next three games very winnable if we continue to play the way we have in the last few weeks. UTB

Very good all round performance, apart from usual hesitancy at the end , we dont like to win by 2 clear goals. Everybody played well as a unit with the acceptable odd mistake. I dont quite buy the Peterborough were rubbish story. They came at us strong for the opening 15 minutes and played us off the park with some neat and crisp football. Then we started to get into our stride and gain a bit more control. We also had to withstand a big 20 minute effort from them in the second half, which we defended well against.
Peterborough will do better though as a young keen side, average age 23. The club have become more famous for picking up raw talent from the non leagues, something we have stopped to learn from or gamble on. No doubt they will improve. Thats enough about them. We thoroughly deserved the win, Leonard with the TV cameras shining on his head had a cracker, Sprayed some of the best long ball passes ive seen for some time , only one astray. MOM for me and has just enhanced his reputation and iincreased his value. £1million soon?
Watched on the box and went to Gills V Doncaster afterwards as mate had spare ticket. Doncaster were poor, large lumps. Gillingham considerable pace ,down the flanks especially, although not offering a lot upfront, missed Egan at the back.

Cant agree they played us off the park. We did take our time, I agree but we created some very good chances before the goal. If there was any period in the game were one team dominated it was us after the second goal. Plenty of good chances to finish them off and despite their managers moans about luck I thought 2-1 rather flattered them.

Agree. They had a fair bit if the ball in the first 15 but without really doing much and a brief spell in the second half but overall they were pretty poor i thought. By far the worse side we have seen all season.

The boy Rea done really well I thought. When everyone is fit, who is the preferred centre back partnership? I guess it's harsh on Bolger but I'd stick with Barrett and Rea.

Oh they did for the first 10/15 minutes after they made their change at half time and brought Collison on they dominated the beginning of the half and thought we were in trouble, then we got back into it and then it was one way traffic till the last 5 minutes.

Over the course of the whole game they were well and truly second best.

I'm going to take Jam_Man's job, just like the time I took the Spread. :finger:

Congrats on your first win back in League One.

Thanks Jonny. Bet you are delighted you spent your day supporting us rather than travel all that way to Exeter for a humiliating defeat :hilarious::hilarious::hilarious::hilarious::hilarious::hilarious:

Onest Jonny's Hobjectiff View:

Thought Peterborough were massively ineffective all-round and any League One team worth their salt should have won that game. They might as well have played with just Alnwick, Maddison and Taylor, because the rest of them were hopeless.

That said, Southend worked worked within their obvious technical limitations pretty well; the formation seemed to suit all but one of the players and you were well worth the three points. Sure, you had to head a couple off the line and Bostwick smacked the bar, but you should have won by plenty more. Not that pretty, but certainly very effective.

Bentley 7 - Got caught under one corner, but was otherwise immaculate commanding his area. Didn't have a shot to save apart from the goal (and one save I might've missed when flicking over to the cricket :winking:).

White 7 - Solid, unfussy, steady. Almost to the point of boring. Miss some tackles or go past the halfway line you dullard.
Coker 7.5 - Very good going forward, but had a tough time against Taylor defensively. Great ball in for the winner.
Barrett 8 - Utterly untroubled, with one baffling moment where he turned into Gary Linekar.
Rea 7 - Again, very little to do as Posh were so awful up front, but did what he had to well.

Worrall 6 - Worked hard without really getting a grip on the game.
Timlin 6 - Same as Worrall, but could have been sent off in the second half. Not sure how he escaped even a booking.
Leonard 8 MotM - I thought he was excellent and controlled the midfield. Superb box-to-box energy. Vulgar dive, mind.
Wordsworth 4 - Thought he had a pretty poor game. Think playing centrally in a flat four gives him more defensive responsibility than he'd like and it stunts his undoubted creativity.

Hunt 7.5 - Busy performance. Worked very hard and a good header for the goal.
Mooney 5 - The Mooney I know and despair of. Had his diving boots on rather than his shooting boots. Thought he actually had a pretty good game outside the box, but you can't, as a striker, miss 6 gilt-edged chances and get a high rating.

Subs: All 6/10. Thought Brown made the right calls at the right times.

Congrats on your first win back in League One.

I'm not sure on a 5 for Mooney, I thought he had a great game and linked up well with Hunt. Both good signings and I do believe they are clicking together and enjoying there football.

I think the 5 was from an O's (Jonny) who is a bit peeved deep down that he left them for us. Even the Sun had him in the team of the day and rightly so but I thought Hunt would be there too.

Good turnout be the way considering it was live on Sky...

Am I the only one that thinks it is the oddest of most odd situations that a thread regarding match report and ratings has been started by a Borient fan? I can not imagine a situation anywhere else on any forum of another team that a rival fan would post in this way.

He was just trying to take his mind off the anticipated shambles of a result against that world footballing great...Exeter City.

I'm sure it has been tried, but probably only as a wind-up. We have a long history of tolerance towards opposition fans and JS does try to debate and empathise with occasional wind-ups all in one little package, and by and large we tolerate him. I'm sure that if he was a complete bellend then the mods would have stabbed him years ago. It just shows what a open minded board we have, especially in the Chit Chat bit. Now if he played more in the Politics section that might be a different matter. No prisoners there.

Enjoyed game the result gives us a start. Didn't think Peterborough were that poor and now the manager has gone might turn out to have been the best week to have played them.

I am though just a bit concerned about the back four. All very well Adam keep marauding forward but when he does it usually means Leonard has to drop in and cover. Yes I know he scored but in time this will prove a weakness and I would sooner see Leonard on the run forward than Adam. Don't know what others think ?
