Can we be on TV every week...?

Having said that Sky couldn't have had us on the screen any shorter - shooting over to the rugby after the final whistle (was the ref ever going to blow...?)

Don't know what Adam was doing on the edge of the 6 yard area, but thank goodness he was. He was everywhere, rolling back the years. At times we tried to move the ball too quickly, frequently surrendering possession, but went in half time thoroughly deserving our lead. I thought Lenny wasteful with a couple of horrendous League 2 wayward shots, but was better after the break.

I was crying out for the introduction of Pigott, but then wondered why, perhaps I was thinking of the Pigott from last season. This one was a shadow of his former self. In addition to the above and of course Hunt (hold up play was sublime) I also thought Coker had a good game, excusing a couple of wayward crosses.

All in all it augers well for this season, but why oh why do they make us suffer at the death?

Well the Shrimpers in India really enjoyed that! A pretty entertaining game with lots of positives. I think people need to lay off Mooney a bit. Yes he missed a few chances but his link up play with Hunt was superb. With a bit more luck the goals will come for him.

Thought Hunt, Leonard, Barrett and Coker all played really well and Bents of course with a couple of top drawer saves. We really need to be more clinical though and kill teams off (just like last season really). Wordsworth had flashes of brilliance, seems like there's a quality player there.

Other observation from TV: Their centre back Almeida Santos was an absolute beast. Jack Collison - how far can you fall in such a short time. Mrs Barry Fry - give up on the peroxide love, go for the natural grey look at your age.

We made two off-the-line clearances, they hit the bar...let's not think all is fab - we could have lost this.

Strikers wasted chances BUT - they had chances to do so.

2 up front at Coventry - 2 goals.
2 up front today ...........2goals.

See a pattern?

Hunt said in post match interview, that he and Mooney had played together at Reading so it is a case of getting that understanding back...and it IS coming together for them. I do think Piggy would benefit from a bit longer on the pitch because we will need to him at some point, I am quite sure of that. I felt we should have exploited the Peterborough defence more, the big defender had nothing but his size going for him. I was actually surprised at how poor Peterborough looked generally.

I had Lenny as MOTM today, every corner, every cross they put in practically, it was Lenny's head or legs that cleared and he helped Coker out a few times. Nearly scored from a Lenny long throw, not once, but twice! He does need to practice his volleying though, that's two games in a row where he's had a couple of good chances and been way off target. Hunt was probably my 2nd choice, if we can keep him fit he is going to be an immense player for us. Impressed again by Rea, very composed and my heart doesn't spend so much time in my mouth as it does with Tommo and Bolger on the ball. Wordsworth is still a bit of an enigma as far as I am concerned, I know there's a good player there and we are seeing flashes of it, but it's got to be more consistent.

Worrall played more on the right hand side today meaning White had more cover but Coker was exposed - against Taylor, who was clearly Peterborough's most effective player. I'd like to see us playing a more orthodox 4-4-2 with McLaughlin and Worrall both on the pitch together.

Bentley - 7, solid, obviously had the shot that hit the crossbar covered :whistling:
White - 7, typical performance, solid also
Rea - 8, had the easier job of the centre two and did it well
Barrett - 7.5, should have had a pen when their giant defender threw him to the ground in the first half! He had his hands full with him a lot of the afternoon, you have to love him for his passion and delighted he got his goal at last
Coker - 7, he had a tougher job this afternoon, wasn't used as much on the attack
Worrall - 7, quieter game for David, still one of my favourites to watch on the attack as there's always going to be a chance at the end
Leonard - 8.5, MOTM, some really excellent work, three perfect cross ball pinpoint passes early on and some really important defensive work, particularly clearing from corners
Timlin - 8, should have been carded I thought, has that tendency to tackle in a way that refs don't like but worked well and got forward a lot
Wordsworth - 6, one great burst forward where I felt he should have gone for it himself but I am still on the fence a bit
Hunt - 8, him and Worrall are like a couple of salmon leaping all over the place! Love his enthusiasm and determination, and loved the goal celebration!
Mooney - 7.5, worked really hard and should have scored a couple. On another day he probably would. Beginning to really develop a partnership with Hunt

Subs:
Pigott for Hunt - 6, should have had longer on, not able to do much
McLaughlin for Worrall - 7, lovely run forward just after coming on
O'Neill for Mooney - 6, hard to give more as was only on for a short while

Ref:
Was **** at Wembley, was **** today!

Question for TBV, why no Twist and Shout today or is that just reserved for away matches? Felt it would have got the whole ground going and gee'd the players up.

The only spread you have ever taken was a tub of Utterly Butterly from Tesco.

Nothing from Jam_Man today! or did he have his radio unplugged? No nit picking, no jems of observation (repeated from Mr Clark), maybe Jam_Man has been held captive by MrsBlue on her sofa smoking fags and drinking lager, in the hood, hoping for a glimpse of young hat trick hero Master Williams as he warmed up?

Oh - poor old Borient, the bubble has burst, 4 nil at the Grecians.

A good performance and very entertaining, the sort of match for which I am a season ticket holder.. long may it continue!

Many of us behind the goal in the South stand thought that the clearance by Timlin was in fact already over the line!

There is still room for improvement though, with so many of our players seemingly reluctant to shoot at goal and taking an unnecessary touch instead. Mooney, Piggott and Wordsworth were guilty of this. Team orders seem to get the ball wide at all costs, but sometimes it would be more beneficial for the ball to be slid into space behind the defence instead.

Bentley 8 Got caught out slightly for a corner but other than that a good performance

White 6 Not a lot to do but did not support Worrell enough imo.

Coker 8 A good performance but is more threatening going forward when Worrell is in front of him.

Barrett 9 MOM Passionate and determined performance

Rea 7.5 A good game. I feel that he is a bit lightweight in physique and I am not sure how he will get on when coming up against a bigger and more determined forward.

Worrell 7 Seems to have lost some of his confidence to actually take on his opponent… or has he been instructed to protect
White who has had a torrid time just lately in defending against quick wingers?

Timlin 7.5 Hard working performance with no real fireworks, I think he is wasted out wide. Another who I think has been instructed to protect the full back more than get forward.

Wordsworth 5 Yet to convince me. Seems to let the game pass him bye…. A luxury player imo… Should have shot when clean through but shirked responsibility and passed instead. Made several poor pass selections too.

Leonard 8 Hard working but needs to keep a cool head when shooting. Marked 2 for the dive needs to practise more! Do we need a 'simulation' coach as other teams seem to do so.

Hunt 9 Different class and is on a different wavelength to the rest of the team. Hope that they can to rise to his level of thought rather than him having to drop to theirs! Would have been mom but for Barrett's performance. But for their goal keeper he would have had a hat trick!

Mooney 7 Good effort but marked down for the chances that he missed, excellent set up for one of Hunt's chances which was saved.

Subs I have marked all a 6 except:

Piggott 5 Who is yet to convince me of his ability. he seems to rate himself highly but has not produced on the pitch the times I have seen him play.

Brown 8 Got it mostly right but I thought that he should of replaced Wordsworth and put Timlin in his place.

Officials: 5 Why do we always get sh!t refs?

Heh. Might want to wait until we're not still top of the league before proclaiming the 'bubble has burst'.

Nah, I faced down* your top boy, True Blue.

*well, he gave me a cuddle before waddling off.

Hunt deserved that standing ovation today when subbed, if there's one player that will always be loved it's a player who works his nuts off from the first to last whistle.

Just read this on the Posh fan forum
"I don't know who Sky gave man of the match to, probably one of the goalscorers, but for me the left back with the girly hair was far better than any of our defenders"

Lots of positives from today's game. Some of the build up play was outstanding. Should have been out of sight before half time, as Peterborough looked a very poor today. Hunt and mooney linked up well together, but still think we need another striker

Just watched the whole match again on recording after watching live, and can not separate the players for ratings. They were all superb, working hard, aggressive and playing a good style of football.
Peterborough are experienced at this level and had chances through their star man Maddison and hit the bar. Timlin was close to getting a second yellow and Barratt was close to conceding a penalty with his arms wrapped round the player.
Mooney and Hunt looked a pairing as good as any at this level, our midfield is full of graft and determination, all backed up by a superb back four ably assisted by one of the best keepers in this league, Bentley. Subs did well too.We are playing our best for years now in a fluid 4-4-2 that the players are confident with.
Brown deserves credit for the style and strength of this squad and the season ahead is now looking promising

Proud of the team today giving a good account of themselves on Sky tv.:happy:

I agree 110% Southend played well and we should of scored 1 or 2 more, Peterborough are not a bad team

OK was not big crowd but the Southend fans in the west stand sounded ok :thumbsup::thumbsup:

Listened to the match on blues player on the beach in Nice. Sounded very comfortable until the very end when I thought we might somehow throw it away. Great to get our 1st win. Now let's kick on. UTB

I thought Peterborough played a dangerous game by constantly trying to play out from the back and the Ref got them out of jail twice by awarding free kicks when we had picked theor pockets .
Our midfield 2 were superb first half and bossed the game , some good cross field balls over to Worrall must of been from the management Madison is a luxury player who never tracked back once all game and left them wide open .
The right team won today and having seen 5 teams now I believe we can finish mid table quite comfortably with that 11 , who IMO is our strongest line up and hopefully Brown will realise that too

Generally happy. Thought we made a lot of chances and looked the better side all be it they were poor.

Noel Hunt was superb. He showed what a difference a bit of know how can make and he looked really dangerous. Coker I thought was excellent against there one main decent player and Barrett as always ruled liked a king at the back.

Only gripes for me were Mooney despite some excellent work and link up play was not clinical enough and I thought McLaughlin again did what I said he does and gave the ball away in dangerous areas. He was only on for ten and he set up their goal. He is a talent but PB needs to coach it out of him before it costs us.

Overall delighted and buzzing for next Saturday.

Just see the highlights and noticeably when the ref (finally) blew his whistle, to a man, our boys punched the air with delight (good to see they're feeling it).

Thought we played really well today and what a change from a few weeks ago when it didn't look like we could score if we played for days. We looked dangerous every time we went forward, Mooney should have had a hattrick. Not too bothered though as it's early days and I'm certain his goals will come. The strike partnership looked great today and hunt was just class. The game could have gone either way at times when it was 0-0 and 1-0 to us but once we got the second we should have put them to bed. Disappointing to concede the late goal. Only negative is that when he came on Pigott was dreadful.

Oh and Lennys long passing was on point today. Some delightful balls. Needs to work on his shooting a tad though, been very wasteful and wayward from distance so far this season.
