Post-Match Thread and Ratings Southend United 2-0 Tamworth

I quite enjoyed it today and thought the first 20 minutes was really good and when we scored the 2 goals early I anticipated us score at least two or three more but we seemed to go off the boil a little.
It was a good game but I didn’t think it was a great game but, it was good to see them playing as a team
Again - another solid performance from Taylor
Bonne had a better game but, I still don’t think he is our answer but let’s give him time
Walker and Pepple - they are really beginning to flourish and have to start next week.
Jeacock had a good game
So good to see Cav back! We have missed him
Oh my!!! some of Tamworth players were right bruisers and for such big lads they seemed to hit the deck very easily and conned the ref on a couple of occasions

On a final note while walking out I noted we do have some negative and fickle supporters who had nothing nice or positive to say about the players and the management team and were just moaning generally - If it’s so bad for them why attend?
Then again I suppose some people are just happy to be moaners

Walker and pepple must start against Charlton.
Great start to the game.
Another clean sheet.
I'm not overly glad our decent league form is going to be interrupted by the Cup shenanigans next week, would rather keep moving up the table.
Loving the return of the clean sheet mentality coupled with the obscene commitment which has been our trademark in recent seasons.
Bonne....I can't. Woeful miss from two yards. Yes some decent play today but I'd rather go with players who have actually put the round thing in the goal.
I have got the feeling that Bonne is close to getting off the mark for Southend and Charlton might be the game he does it. He certainly seems to have a really good partnership with Pepple up front.

Thought resting Walker and bringing Bonne back was a good move. I know Walker was playing lone striker but thought he was brushed off the ball too easily when he came on.

I’d be annoyed if Bonne wasn’t scoring and in addition was just going through the motions looking disinterested. It really doesn’t look that way to me. We’ve had plenty of players like that in recent years.

He seems to have an understanding with Pepple and looked genuinely chuffed for him after he scored. He also has a bit of the streetwise about him, which showed today.

If he scores instead of misses that chance today he’s a W block hero and off and running. We’ve yet to see the best of him I feel (same with Walker).

Waldron expecting to be back next week for Charlton. We should have a full squad to pick from at last!

I look at Morton and see a player who is only just starting to settle at this level and with this club. He’s looking a quality addition now. Flourished while Cav has been out. Waldron has had less minutes than Morton, so I don’t think he’s there yet, but I don’t think it will take much now. Just need him fit and ready to go and a run of games. Still believe he will be an exciting player for us.

Is Zack available for selection? & Foran? Pebble & Moncur both played in previous round so will be available again.
Doubt Lincoln would stop Zack playing he is hardly going to be needed there in future rounds. Foran is useless and assume will be sent back after today. No idea what your comment re a Pepple means as I’ve suggested he should start. Moncur shouldn’t get a start even if fit

Spurs also played in chocolate a few years back as a limited edition. I remember them well because I queued for 2 hours from 5am at the Harlow spurs store, purchased 4 and sold 3 of them for £100 profit each via ebay!

Just confirming the status of the loanees - as Pebble and Moncur both played in previous round they should be available for selection again if fit.

But Zack who knows - if I were a betting man I'd go with being available like you - but I don't think that's be confirmed by either club yet. Actually is Foran still with us - wasn't his loan just 1 month?

I was going to say something very similar. I thought Bonne put in a real shift today. He was a real handful winning so many headers going forward and also help defend many of the long throws. But most significantly he was a real team player today, the first to congratulate Pepple and none of the arm waving and complaining from previous outings. Once that first one goes in he could be a significant player for us this season.

Pepple's performance in the first half was as good as any from a Shrimpers striker since we have been in this division. Good control especially with his chest together with strength and pace. Should have a decent career. Good to see Oli Coker score again , if only our other central midfielders could do something similar for once. Nice to get four consecutive clean sheets.

He was there today albeit not changed

Well Tamworth.. What a bunch of muggly thugs.
The 18 was a total bell end who's only interest was getting in Jeacocks face at every opportunity and generally kicking people about. Luckily I was right behind the goal and gave him an ear full more than once that he heard 😂

Thought the team played well against the thugs today, Pepple strong as an Ox and another belter of a goal. Does he score normal goals?
The back 5 were solid, the midfield were class, Jeacock handled himself well.

Lots of talk about Bonne over recent weeks but thought he had a good game today won his headers, strong in the air and on the floor. Getting fitter and sharper the more he plays. Just needs that goal to get him off the mark
Charlton.

Just a small point which I don't think anyone has mentioned. During the first-half when Bonne missed that chance he put over the bar, he thumped the ground with his fists in utter frustration. He obviously does care, as was evident in his performance today and must be wondering what else he has to do to get on the score sheet.
Things are moving in the right direction and I do hope that this momentum won't be upset if we don't get a positive result next Saturday. It's a day off from the League and a chance for the players to match themselves against higher opposition. I hope we enjoy the day and whatever the result, return to the bread and butter issues of the League, where we left off today.

Good result today, I don't think our goalkeeper got the memo about playing it out from the back... worked well as we scored and looked to score more. Would love to see more of this type of football .... more direct.
Well done boys

SOUTHEND United boss Kevin Maher opted for a change in goal against Tamworth due to a fitness issue surrounding Collin Andeng Ndi.

Maher handed on loan Lincoln City goalkeeper Zach Jeacock his debut between the sticks for the National League clash at Roots Hall.

And Maher revealed the alteration was down to Andeng Ndi picking up a thigh problem in Wednesday night's 0-0 draw at Aldershot Town.

"Collin was stretching his top of his thigh during the second half against Aldershot," said Maher.

"It affected his kicking a little bit and I didn't want to risk anything going wrong with that because we're going to need him.

"I thought Zach did ever so well though.

"We've watched him in training and he kicks it a long way, he's composed and did well."

The Shrimpers triumphed 2-0 against Tamworth and secured a fourth clean sheet in succession.
