Post-Match Thread and Ratings Southend United 2-0 Tamworth

How did the keeper play?

He had very little to do in all honesty. Kicking very good. He came for a couple of crosses and held it well.

He did get bullied on one occasion during a flighted ball into our box. He had a sea of people in front of him, and when he charged towards it I was expecting him to clear everything in sight, but due to the Tamworth ****housery, he got nowhere near it. Was probably a foul though tbh, even if the ref didn’t give it.

Bonne really did put in a good effort today. Saw him winning aerial battles, going for the ball. People was amazing but I gotta say I think Coker has made all the difference since he has been back being consistent and creative. Was great to see Cav back as well.

Football won today

Southend were better, but Tamworth lacked any ounce of class, as did their fans, who sang “you let your club die” at some point. Their 18 was just horrendous, and they played the referee, who didn’t have a clue what he was doing.

Solid game from all - Bonne endeared himself to the fans today with a very hard working display. Feel for him not scoring, but the ovation when he was subbed off was a far cry from the jeers last time out.

Jeacock looked solid, caught a few in the air and punched well.

Overall, a very solid game. 6 hours of football since we conceded a goal - bodes well for the Charlton game

Great first half, understandably second half we tired after the Wednesday away game.

MoM for me Pepple.

Morton was quality, Noor looked more like his old self.

Taylor and Ralph doing what they do best.

Welcome back Cav - showed 2 or 3 great touches to show what we’ve been missing.

Bonne had his best game in a Southend shirt so far - once that first goal goes in the confidence will come and the weight will be lifted.

Ref seemed to forget how to ref last half hour or so. Strange boy.

All in all a good performance 💙

Tamworth have to be the most one-dimensional side I have ever seen! Basically once the bald number 4 went off that was all their attacking options gone!
Also the thing at free kicks where the Tamworth guy was standing in front of the keeper whilst he was trying to lie up the wall ws just pathetic and if he has been coached to do that is even more pathetic!

Thought Bonne was excellent today and looked more like he was fitter and interested; would have loved him to have scored that goal

How did the keeper play?
Serious answer. Hard to tell as he didn't have a save to make.

Taller than Collin and comes for crosses more - not always successfully. Kicking tended to go long, some straight out of play.

Wasn't as good at time wasting as Collin, although he got into that abit more near the end.

Needs to go to a better barbers.

Only watched 2nd half so....
Positives - 3 points, another clean sheet and unbeaten run = confidence and belief. Cav back and made an impact in a few short minutes.
Negatives, and only based on 2nd half - too many needless fouls given away all over pitch means constant break down in play suiting poor teams like Tamworth. And still too many silly passes back 5 yards in oppo half when a pass forward might create something, gamble on occasions please.
Overall, solid day at the office but still away off play off form.

I did wonder if the Tamworth guy in our keepers face, blocking with his arms, while our keeper tried to organise our wall was committing a bookable offence. He did it at least twice with the referee able to see. I assume because the balls not in play it's not an offence, and yet if you stand directly in front of a free kick stopping it being taken its a bookable offence.
He didn't even get a warning!

Well we knew what to expect from Tamworth and they delivered. Long balls, long throws into the box, every trick from the book of ****housery possible. But we stood up to it and beat them by playing good football.

Pepple was great, really impressive. Morton had a great game and we played some really nice stuff through them. Bonne as I said on the match thread I don’t think played bad. You can definitely see flashes of a decent player. Sad he couldn’t get off the mark both for confidence and to shut up the bloke a few rows behind me who clearly isn’t a fan.
Another clean sheet - keeper did well I thought and just hoofed it when needed instead of ****ing about.

That was a test of character and a game we really needed to win so I’ll take the 2-0 .. even though ideally we’d have scored a 3rd and could’ve done. Oh, wasn’t it great seeing Cav back nicking the ball, we’ve missed him.
