I'm convinced that not only was he heading away from goal but by the time he was fouled there were numbers back. Keen to watch replay.

Makes no difference how many were back, it is whether the referee deems it as a goal scoring opportunity and personally I think most would agree that it would have certainly been a goal had the keeper not tripped Barry; which is obviously how the ref saw it as well.

Anyway with regards the game; not the greatest performance but it's 3 points at the end of the day.

Timlin was my man of the match, though I would like to mention what a good performance Bolger put in (as well as Thompson) which will hopefully go some way towards people on here laying off him.

Though O'Toole didn't seem to do much (other than that first half shot), the fact they didn't create too many chances shows he must have done something, otherwise they would have been through us like knife through butter!!

"Bonkers bad and dross ain't my thing" are two things that Mrs Blue has said. I try to respect all comments on SZ but how can you take someone with that grasp of English seriously?

Can we please try and stick to the topic and avoid the pot shots at each other, you lot are worse than my children.

Obviously going to be differing opinions on performance styles etc. I would love it if we could all get behind the positives that are surely clear for all to see.
1. This group of players give 100% effort and commitment.
2. At the moment we have momentum
3. We are well placed in the league
4. As a group of supporters we have been amazing on so many occasions....we can have a positive effect on matches as well as the players...lets get the love going its southend UNITED.....lets be just that

Apart from our second goal (and I was a long way away) I don't recall one goog move or one piece of genuine skill or excitement. Maybe is because the last couple of home games have been against crap opposition, but although its great to win, I can't say I actually enjoyed watching today. Hopefully we will raise our game when we play better opposition in the next two games
in previous seasons we have lost against the lower team's

When an opponents boss comes out and says he wants to spoil the game and make it dull

You have to say that it's not all Brown's fault that the match wasn't entertaining (although as ever the three points were welcome)
When managers say this it makes you wonder whether it is an entertainment industry or a results industry. Personally I think you should try and entertain, maybe until the business end of the season, when its only results that count. If that is the way Wilder is setting the cobblers up to play then I'm glad I don't have to watch them every week.

On the game, one of the only flowing moves with any quality and attacking intent was our second goal. Very good feet from Weston (who i thought was average at best for the first 70 mins) then, Worrall ran from the wing through the penalty area pointed where he wanted the ball, and Weston got his head up and duly obliged -quality.

I was one of he guys that helped pick the MOM and believed that Westons workrate and commitment was better than any other with the possible exception of Payne.
The first 60 mins were not great and we were struggling to pick a player for MOM however Weston helped change the game and fully deserved his award.
We are four points off top and we still have negativity on this site. DWB you were one of the guys that a few weeks ago was suggesting that Brown should be sacked! The way you and some other individuals on this site show your support for the team is pathetic. This club would be better off without your so called support - maybe you should try supporting Dave Webbs other team - Chelsea!

Where have I been negative on this thread or any other recently? Where did Weston help change the game? The game changed when Corr was fouled by the keeper and Corr scored the resulting penalty. He got the assist for Worrall's goal but that didn't change the game, that gave us a bigger lead.

Weston ran and ran but there was no end product until Northampton went down to 10 men and he got some space. He was unwilling to take take players on and his first touch was woeful. If you are happy to give a player MOM because he ran a lot, then that's fine. Timlin and Worrall deserved it more than Weston today.

As for PB being sacked, he has started to listen to the fans and play more attacking football. I said recently we should expect 9 points out of 9 for the 3 games upcoming as the opposition was poor. This has happened so that's good. Let's see what happens against Wycombe and Burton, 2 strong teams.

How about my so called support, care to elaborate on that, as you know nothing about me or my support for the club.

A beautiful, sunny Autumnal day, three points and a clean sheet against a team who packed the midfield with the plan to nick a point or three in the last quarter by bringing on Toney or A.N Other, a team that couldn't muster a single attempt on target or any noteable off target attempt in 90 minutes. A plan that completely died on it's arse with the injury in the first half and then the keepers calamity leaving the hapless Wilder with no plan b and showing what a **** poor manager he really is. To be fair though they have had some rotten luck with injuries this season but his peculiar team selection has not garnered him many fans on the Northampton message board.

Personally I thought O'Toole did OK considering he was asked to play a more defensive role then normal, he won plenty of headers in midfield (he seems to have a great spring similar to Worral) and never shirked a tackle and you could clearly see that when the team were attacking he sat deeper than the likes of Payne/Worral/Weston. In my opinion this position is what Leonard excels at and you can see how much we missed him today, hopefully he'll be back very soon and O'Toole can be used further forward and show us what he can do, especially as I thought Payne was very well marshalled by Northampton and was fairly ineffective today.

The distribution from the back four was poor again, there was many an aimless ball punted forward to nobody. I'd prefer Sokolik to be playing but if the team has just won four on the spin it's difficult to argue against changing a settled defence especially when they look so solid with Thompson really impressing me again today.

Very disappointing to hear that there were some fans today who felt it right to have a go at certain players and that Timlin had to call them out for it. I'm really not surprised though considering that some on here had the knives ready for O'Toole before he'd even kicked a ball, I'm just glad that there is no one sitting near me in the West like that.

Mrs Blue read his posts re. Sponsors choosing MOM. Although I was not the sponsor I was in the party and believed we had the right to respond.
His comments regarding Weston were uncalled for.

Why were my comments about Weston uncalled for? I didn't call him a ****, I just said the following:

'He was an outlet and was quick but up until the keeper was sent off, he was woeful. His first touch was shocking and he didn't put in one good ball. Once the keeper was sent off, he got a bit of space and turned his game around. 20 mins for me doesn't deserve the MOM. Timlin was the most consistent player on the pitch and deserved the MOM. When Timlin plays well, SUFC play well.'

Where is any of that uncalled for?

Views on jack payne today???
I thought northampton kind of smothered him and denied him any space at all...tough one for the youngster today. Good lessons for him though, brown said he should take it as a compliment that the cobblers set up to stop him playing

Timlin easily deserved motm today,he was all over the place protecting the back four, whereas Weston did **** all for 85 mins and then popped up for an assist for Wozzas goal!

It was of course Weston's ball in their keeper spilled- so strictly speaking he at least did something very significant immediately before the goal..

Lol have a look at your post I think it sums up your negativity! You are right I don't know you or how long you have been a fan for etc. I can only base my views on what you and other fans post on this forum. We are four points off top spot and have today won. Perhaps you should think before you post unnecessarily negative views on our players and manager. Your views would carry more substance if we had lost 6-0 and were in the relegation zone. Sorry for questioning your support for SUFC just try to be more positive rather than questioning decisions made on MOM etc.

Cobblers set up to stop everyone playing....I doubt they would have scored had we played the game 10 times

Very true what PB said it should be taken as a compliment, and Payne will learn to deal with those tactics as he gains experience. As for fans shouting abuse at the players, ive said it before i ll sy it again ,they cannot call themselves SUFC supporters because a true SUFC supporter would never hurl abuse at our own players ,quite the opposite in fact, if a player not having a good game, encouragement is better placed , try to make that player feel better in himself. If you ever played the game you know yourself whether you having a good or bad game, last thing you need is someone hurling insults toward you when you make a gaff.
