Post-Match Thread and Ratings Southend United 2-0 AFC Fylde

When England play Greece, as an example, at Wembley there may well be 10,000 Greeks in the stands, supporting their national team. Nearly all of them will not have travelled from Greece, more likely hopped on the tube from their homes in south or east London.
So how do we know that the nine or ten “hardy souls” sitting in the north stand had travelled down from the Lancashire coast? Much more likely that they are Fylde supporters in exile, like ORM in Hong Kong or me in Hereford.
I suspect that we were wining and dining them for little reason.
Shouldn’t this be on the Shrimpermoan thread.

Win is a win, but a genuinely good team would have smelt blood and ripped Fylde apart - as soon as they were pressed at the back, they fell apart like a pack of cards.
As others have probably eluded to already, there is still a worrying lack of composure in dangerous attacking areas, and our finishing is wasteful at best.
The fact we are 3 points off the play-offs shows you just how terrible a league this is - we've been dreadful for most of the season...let's hope the incoming reinforcements will enable us to better compete with teams in and around the lower reaches of the play-offs.
Whilst we haven’t had the season we hoped for and we’ve had a few shockers to say we’ve been dreadful for most of the season is harsh. Our league position doesn’t back up that opinion.

I wouldn't ask for 10,000 greek names to be announced. Nor would I ask 9 Fylde fans for proof of home address before giving them a pie.

Living in Hereford, that explains a lot.

Great that he has finally admitted defeat with crab ball but what a wasted 6 months.
Should be top 5 with a bit of ambition to score but could now be too little too late?....carry on like this though and it is well doable!
Think he sensed the sack and was forced into getting goals but hopefully the penny has dropped.
Morton was the biggest mistake as he has proven in the last two games, knew he was a Rolls Royce from day one. Cav Miley and Husin please never play in the same team again!

That cross by Morton when Bonne headed over was a sight to see in itself. Quality player whose confidence is now there for all to see. Always wants to have the ball. I don’t mind that some of his passes may not work but it’s better than playing it safe all the time.

He also took the corners and I think he got them over the head of the first man every time.

this is spot on. I doubt there have been many players this season when played that have been consistently as good as Morton. He is regularly around the 7.5/8 mark and many have had him as MOM on more than one occasion. We know that Kev has preferred Miley over Morton, maybe due to the formation we are playing, but playing the formation we have the last two games really suits Morton. long may it continue.

Morton also put in a similar cross on Saturday that Bonne headed in although given off side when he clearly wasnt. Imagine Hopper will fancy getting on the end of a few of these as well

I think bonne is more agile and probably more skillful but I think hopper is stronger physically and much more capable of burying those sort of headers. I
Two different skill sets which is good.

Felt a bit sorry for Tom as sure he’d have tucked away one of the first half chances.
Id have put money on any of our players and most of the crowd putting away one of those chances. Said on the match thread one of them was the worst misses I've seen for quite a while

Had the pleasure of chatting to one of the nine in the Shrimpers bar before the match. I’m guessing that he was at least in his seventies and he had driven down from his home in Bolton. A six hour drive. He told me he hasn’t missed a match, home or away for 8 years. That’s dedication. Top man.

Absolutely Spot On!

We have had exactly the season I was expecting - consolidation and focus on Finances then followed by strengthening of Squad once we knew Cash position. What again IMO messed things up was losing Cardwell and Kendal so close to start of season and Transfer Embargo meaning we may have missed targets in May and June so any recruits not really having proper pre-season.

Given all that agree football hasn't always been dynamic but still think Barnet was a blip in terms of getting stuffed and if we keep getting results like we are now then who knows. I personally am happy we are not in Relegation fight but might be thinking differently in a Year if we are not challenging.

Up the Blues!
