Post-Match Thread and Ratings Southend United 2-0 AFC Fylde

Was a solid performance and played some neat stuff at times , always seemed to be down our left which was good but would love some balance and have a real attacking Right winger

Harness made a crucial save at 1-0 when Flyde were having their best spell

Husin the stand out for me and likes the look of Kendall and Golding is a massive improvement on Crowther and as horrible as it sounds I don’t see him coming anywhere near the starting 11 again

Up the league we go

I can’t argue or add to much already said. However it was good to see Bridge back to the level we have seen over the last few years, looked sharper, more dangerous and Flyde often doubled up on him. The partnership is building between him & Walker.

What’s peoples opinion on the penalty (not given). From the south upper I thought the ref was going to give it, then changed his mind..

Should’ve been 5 nil up at HT but oh well 3 points and a clean sheet.
Good to see Hopper get minutes.
What happened to Bonne?
My MotM - Harry Taylor

Edit: Bonne went home sick

Bridge with Walker could be the new Bridge & Wes. Looks so much better with that second player to draw a defender and was much more dynamic. Husin was also back at it even if the oppo was poor. Aside from some poor finishing I thought we finally looked dangerous. Harness isn’t the answer long term but some quality stops tonight at important times.. that said I think we can start to feel a bit more positive about things.

1st 20 mins.
Should have scored three sitters and game over. However a really pleasant change to be creating these chances for the strikers. Walkers goal was lovely.
1st half especially the front three aged the high press so well. Lots of positives from the game.
I'm gonna put it out there, my MOM, Harness. Some quality saves at vital times and didn't put a foot wrong.
Really like golding.
I think we are looking ominous for a play off run personally....3 points off....3!

I said after Dagenham that I hoped it would kick off a run, plus boost confidence. And so it did. Barnet was so bad the only way was up really ..another valuable 3 points banked. Tonight’s scoring striker was Josh Walker, a lovely finish just when I was thinking he’d wasted the chance to lay it off to Bridge who’d made a great run. I think we looked solid today and when the defence was breached, Harness was there to save the day.

Ok we can talk about the missed chances and how we should’ve been 4-0 up at HT but I’d prefer to look at the fact we created them .. Kendall will be waking up with cold sweats at missing that sitter but I think he .. in fact all 4 forwards .. caused them problems. We battled and looked a team again..winning challenges and knocking it about well.

Good to see some positivity back in the West stand.

Now a break from NL as we chase Wembley glory and maybe a couple of new faces on from the start Kev?! Why not ..

From the east it looked a stonewall penalty

The regulation 2-0 home on a Tuesday evening win against a team in the bottom 4. It could have been 6 - more like it should have been 6. So Husin, Bridge, and Morton have still not scored from open play, Kendall not for us and of course Bonne only has one. Tom Hopper is yet to get off the mark in a league game this season.

It’s OK getting a bit excited but…. I’m still angry with the team selection against Barnet if we’d beaten them that would have been exciting …. and we’ve only won three games so far against teams currently in the top ten and none of them at home.

Harness did well after his calamity debut and Noor kept Haughton reasonably quiet.
Don’t know why Goodliffe didn’t start.

I’m going to give the strikers the benefit of the doubt today. They aren’t used to getting such buffet chances. More sitters in the first twenty mins than in the last twenty home games. Once we start creating more regular chances and they know where to be, then the goals will come.

MOM Husin for me. Haughton showed glimpses of what he is about but we kept a very good player under wraps. I wonder if he could be tempted?

4-3-3 again… I’m loving that first half performance and watching us create chance after chance is so refreshing from the usual sideways and backwards we’re used to watching. We’re starting to look like a squad and having flexibility in our systems and play style. We have a proper squad depth and bringing on quality as our subs. It’s also allowing Bridge and Gus to have more space on the wings and this is noticeable.

What else is noticeable is how everyone looks to Morton to get us playing - even missing out a player in a pass in order to get it to him quicker. I will forever dream about that first half cross, absolutley inch perfect.

Husin appears to be taking the competition for his position brilliantly and stepped up to the challenge perfectly and did the dirty work brilliantly.

I had no idea Walker was as strong as he is and had a great game, great finish (ironically it was probably our weakest chance).

I was very happy with the respect shown to Fylde fans, definitely the lowest away attendance we’ve had but fair play to every one of them. The fact we’re only 3 points off play offs is a real eye opener and actually if we pick up form at the right time and everyone starts believing we can really get ourselves in the hat.
