What has honestly changed from a side that won three game games in a row to one that loses three in a row?

The opposition.

A big, strong side who put men behind the ball and closed us down. Northampton might have been similarly dirty, but they were more enterprising. Plymouth were just rubbish.

Agree totally with this, 90% of the team under performed today, I don't understand why so many did, or so many are making him the biggest scapegoat. For me the buck stops with the boss, he made the call to bring Timlin back and, much as I like Timmo, he just wasn't ready mentally or physically - anyone else see him beating his head and yelling in frustration? Lenny was having to cover both roles. Not enough ball being played to feet was the biggest problem and I have to be honest and say I didn't see their 2nd goal, I thought the days of conceding so soon after the break had gone and I was looking at my phone!

Bentley - 5, did next to nothing but pick the ball out of the net 3 times, is it time for Smith to be given a go? Wouldn't surprise me
White - 5, poor by his standards, did get forward a lot more as the game went on, and put some good work in but defensively, there's big question marks against the whole defence
Phillips - 5, looked knackered at the end, grow the beard back please, seems to be luckier than being clean shaven!
Prosser - 5, some decisive heading but far too much punting it forwards
Coker - 6, best player on the pitch apart from Hurst. Never gives up, continually offers the overlap, even if it is ignored far too often, puts a good cross in and delivers a good corner
Hurst - 7, MOTM by a mile today, delighted to see him come back and score on his first full game this season. Needs to work on building understanding with John White
Timlin - 4, really not in it at all
Leonard - 5, worked hard but he'll be disappointed with his efforts
Straker - 5, was he trying too hard? Take a step back and assess what's changed this month, then re-discover the earlier form and shut the doubters up!
Eastwood - 6, persevered, I thought he was fouled in the box and should have had a penalty
Woodward - 6, promising enough debut, he can develop and learn from the others, his pace and willingness to go for anything should be used to our advantage

Subs:
Atkinson for Timlin - 6, did ok when he came on, personally I'd have had him RM and moved Hurst to LM and brought Payne on at the same time. Pace had the chance to get us somewhere and we didn't use it enough
Payne for Straker - 6, energetic and willing to chase

Officials:
Far too many handballs in the last couple of games that aren't being given, couple of blatant ones today, including one we thought around where I sit, should have been a penalty in the 2nd half. Got the red card right but got Timlin's caution so wrong.

Poor atmosphere I thought today considering all those kids were in X Block, we really should have utilised their enthusiasm better.

Fab to see all those youngsters though, let's hope that the next generation of Kane Ferdinands, Dan Bentleys and Jack Paynes all enjoyed their day!

The bigger issue is that he bought Timlin back in the wrong role. Timlin is far, far better wide left.

Prosser was hoofing because there were no players open for the pass. He had a lot of bad balls played into him in which the only option was to hoof. The tone was however set from kick-off when Freddy bizarrely played it straight back to Phillips. Prosser did however play the pass of the day when under pressure, when he produced a superb ball down the left wing, but too many players were just looking to get rid of it rather than play it to a team-mate in a better position.

Leonard was excellent for the last 20 minutes when the extra man meant he had players open to pass to, but our use of the space further up the pitch was atrocious. There were huge gaping holes that no-one was looking to attack. What happened to Freddy for the last 20 minutes? Why wasn't Atkinson attacking that space?

When was Eastwood fouled in the box? Do you mean Corr who didn't even get a rating?

Agree Yorkshire, no one from the midfield running to support the strikers like Kane used to do. The left side of our team yesterday was woeful. Ryan Hall not getting a game for Leeds, bring him back! Whats happened to Mitchell Pinnock?

Talkin of Timlin I heard a whisper some time ago that Brown doesn't rate him in the long run. Find that baffling if true. Personally with the right criteria he is better in middle of midfield.

The other option would be to push Leonard further forward, but then we've got no-one to play the Maher role.

Additionally Timlin wide left is not his position. that was a mistake Paul Sturrock made when he played him there.

:facepalm::facepalm::facepalm:

Seriously, in what way was it a mistake to play Timlin left-midfield? It's easily his best position and we were always a far better team when he played there or to the left of a central midfield three (effectively playing the same role) otherwise we get overrun in central midfield. It this wasn't obvious from watching us, the results should be the give-away.

If Timlin has played in training like he did yesterday that isn't a surprise. I'm guessing Timlin only got a contract off Coughlan's advice, I'm guessing Brown hasn't seen videos of him last season so if Timlin is out of form Brown won't have seen much to convince him he should start.

I'm glad someone else can see the good in Prosser. If he is sent balls under pressure, unless there is movement to pass the ball, he has no option but to hoof.

"Handballs" are required to be deliberate and I don't recall too many, if any, that were missed. East stand lino missed one offside by a couple of yards but generally the officials did okay.

Timlin can have no complaints. He pulled at an opponents shorts and the referee played a decent advantage. The referee was not going to caution Timlin until he started mouthing off at him. What's "so wrong" about that ?

It amazes me how many fans scream for handball every time it hits someone's arm. Particularly when it's smacked from 2-3 yards, and the guy's got no chance to move out of the way.

Mick what was your opinion on his pacing out of the '10 yards' for free kicks?

Interesting to see his response on that as LF already told me on FB he only paces 8! As for Timlin's booking, the reaction came about as the ref obstructed him, which caused the frustration. I felt the ref should have accepted that it was his action that led Timlin to do what he did. Did no-one else see the handball from their player with his arm clearly above his head? It was as blatant as you can get!

I know LF is having a little pop cos I said on FB I thought the ref was poor, I'm just fed up with weak refs who keep letting the opposition get away with challenges and nudges and shoves that others wouldn't. Stamp your authority on the game early and it might stop some of that behaviour!

Indeed, and I've always found it bizarre that only Prosser is ever singled out for his 'hoofing' when Phillips is, and always has been, far, far worse in this department. I've no problem with no-nonsense defending when appropriate but there are times Phillips just boots it as far as humanly possible even when he has time to take a touch and play it simple. Yesterday was no different.

The requirement is 10 yards, not 10 paces.

If he has established that 8 of his paces are exactly 10 yards, fine. If it were me, I would be tempted to shorten my paces, if only to avoid ill-founded criticism.

He wasn't poor and he wasn't weak. Morecambe were not a particularly "dirty" side (one tackle excepted, which was dealt with perfectly). They were bigger, stronger and more industrious and better organised. The 15 to 7 foul count was an appropriate reflection of the play and, unlike the previous week's official, his foul detection was reasonable and consistent.

The ref wasn't even pacing a yard. You sometimes see refs taking a long step to pace a yard but the ref yesterday didn't even do that. I'd be surprised if the wall was even 8 yards away.

As an ex-referee myself I have to agree, and to be honest the man in the middle's overall performance left a lot to be desired yesterday.....

how do you know he wasn't pacing a yard? a metre is longer than a yard so on that basis the majority of people who are taller than 5ft 5 inches can easily stride metre, 8 or so strides sounds about right.

Thank f*** for that! I really thought I had come away seeing something that our resident refs hadn't, I'm grateful that you've backed me up somewhat!

To be honest I commented on the referee to two of my season-card holder mates yesterday at the game and I thought he had a shocker. As an ex-referee and assistant referee I recognise more than most that it's a tough job and it takes a very poor display for me to go out of my way to criticise for that very reason. Couldn't help myself yesterday though, he got very little right all afternoon. Nothing wrong with the assistants, they were fine.
