Thought Brown's tinkering and Laird being injured cost us today. With Laird and Corr in the side, I don't think we'd have been muscled out of the game. Poor decision sticking the new fella in against a giant back four IMO.

Would also like someone to tell Straker he's allowed to run at players rather than travelling twenty yards with the ball, stopping and passing back thirty yards to one of their centre forward.

The whole team under performed, but for me the main problem was centre defence. An unfit Phillips and a Prosser reverting to his old ways. This seems to have affected the full backs. Prosser started the season solid, but now seems vulnerable, losing his man now and again, and back to more hoofing, and dodgy passes. Morecambe didn't have many chances, but scored 3. We made them look better than they are.
We now know that Thompson is not a good central defender as he can't seem to win the ball in the air. So he's not the answer. It needs sorting out now, as far too many opposition attacks are turning in to goals.

We need to get back to how we started the season, a solid back Four, and defending and attacking as a team.

Today was bad very bad,Every player looked lost and incapable of actually playing the game,Defending was shocking whilst the midfield were outgunned and muscled out of the game.

White and Coker couldn't get a regular spot last season even in a struggling Colchester team

If White and Coker were playing regularly for a League One club, they wouldn't be here the following season!!!

I think both of those players have looked good this season, but lets all slate them after one below par performance - hope your boss doesn't treat you the same.

The main problem yesterday was the midfield, you can't have 3 out of 4 of your midfielders having a poor performance and expect anything from a game.

Hopefully though it was just a bad day at the office as the previous 3 home performances were miles better than that.

A very frustrating game. Couldn't bring myself to report last night.

I think Brown has done well so far, but I thought Morecambe came with a game plan yesterday, and we didn't know how to counter it. At times they had 5 at the back which meant we could have been braver and push more people forward. Straker had acres at times and could have pushed right up onto their RB. The lack of options in the squad is already showing. I would have started Corr with Freddy as they were starting to gel, but when we've only got Woodward for an initial 1 month it looks like we've had to utilise him while he's here.

Yesterday's result certainly wasn't through lack of effort, We have some decent pro's but t
his is a young team and PB will need to pick them up this week.

Bentley...6. Made a couple of good saves, and couldn't do much about the goals. Let down by his teamates
White...5 Poor game. Gave away a terrible ball for their 3rd. I wanted to see our skipper shouting and screaming at our boys, but he was quiet.
Phillips...5 We can't concede 3 goals at home. Soft ones at that. End of.
Prosser...5 As above
Coker...6 Had a decent game. Made some great runs forward, but Straker and co never really read them.
Hurst...7 MOTM Showed some nice touches. Good goal.
Timlin...5 Silly booking when the ref got in his way. Lost his concentration. Lost his way in the match.
Leonard...6 Poor by his latest standards, however a 6 for his effort and workrate. Keep those shots down, Lenny
Straker...5 Said it before, countless times. I wish he'd go outside the full back and use his pace. Morecambe were happy to see him cut inside into their cluster of midfielders. Hence possession lost.
Eastwood...6 Tried hard. Most of the balls were played to them up in the air which doesn't suit ever of them.
Woodward...6 As above.

Subs:
Atkinson...6 Ok
Payne...7 Good. Showed some nice touches and was keen to take players on and make things happen.
Corr...6 Usual Barry. Held things up, but service wasn't great

CP called it right we need another CB. Someone who can dominate in the air, something that Prosser and Thompson cant. Just a big brick house of a defender. So much football in this division is played in the air and set pieces are crucial, our defenders arent aggressive enough. The signing of Bennett was wrong, a proven crock and a waste of a place in the squad. I think a lot of players yesterday just reverted to their usual displays for us. Straker is an average player who has had a couple of decent games this season. He should not be playing on the left wing as his final ball is non existent and his football brain lacking. Timlin looked a shadow of last season, and both full backs didnt offer enough attacking support.

When is he going to give Craig Reid a run, he scored 15 goals for a team that was relegated last season and scored 20 odd goals in league one with stevenage, i think we need abit more steel in midfield as we where really over run yesterday , need a win on Friday

Craig took a knock last weekend, presumably that was still an issue, I thought he was changed and ready to come on rather than Payne, and was expecting us to go 4-3-3!

White and Coker couldn't get a regular spot last season even in a struggling Colchester team, Prosser is a Port Vale cast-off and Phillips doesn't look match fit.

Why do we have to judge players based on their previous clubs?

John White played 24 games last season, so hardly a reserve player. I'd be amazed if Ben Coker was a regular a Col U as he actually spent last season at Histon. Also, it pains me to say, Col U are in the league above us.

He scored 12 goals for Aldershot last season and 6 for Stevenage in league one.

with respect Jay , and I think someone has already alluded to what I'm going to say, is that we may have won the first 3 games but I do think there were hints that it was only mildly papering over the cracks. why? Plymouth were very poor on the opening day. I said to Cricko on the evening before I thought Plymouth would be much improved but on the day they weren't. If we were that exeptional we would have pummelled them that day in terms of goals scored. Ditto Northampton. They were poor and are still in the bottom 5 I think and on their performance here we should have won by a heavier scoreline. And in Wycombe and Chesterfield ( Arguably unlucky at the latter) teams who may well be up there throughout the season we struggled to hang on to their coat tails. And yesterday Morecambe arrived with a plan and stuck at it well but at the same time did not think they were anyting special . So it is this that concerns me. And friday with Scunny might be a toughie as well as I think they'll be more of a top half table side and we all know what happens to our players when confidence is low at RH. And also can anyone confirm if the players were paid the other day? If they were then thats more concerning as we can then solely judge the ability.

Having completed 400 miles and seven hours of travel and watching 70 minutes of utter dross I am cheesed off to say the least. I should sue Southend United FC under the Trades Description Act for that so called football match. If what we saw was sold in Southend High street in a shop I would go back and demand my money back with costs. After the equalizer you could sense the confidence draining away. It took another bad blunder from Prosser to complete the process and when White gave the ball away easily for the third goal it was all over. Southend huffed and puffed yet never seemed able to score although their goalkeeper made a couple of good saves. I think that if Morecombe would down to 7 men and we had 15 players on the park and played for two extra hours the result would have been the same. Morecombe were well organised, very physical and committed but defended to the last man. In the last 30 minutes we had so much pressure yet no-one had the intelligence to break down the defence. As regards individual players, too many committed basic schoolboy errors. In particular Prosser, White and Straker (My opinion of Straker as a player has not alter since I first saw him two years ago, he simply not good enough. He cannot defend, lacks confidence to attack and go pass players, his crossing into the box is very patchy and his distribution is poor). However the vast majority of this team played below average and I would like to think this was a one off but I have seen too many of this type of performance over the last three years to think this was one poor game. The next game on Friday could mean another 400m miles trip and arrival time back home at 2am, not an exciting prospect

Rank bad defending for all 3 goals. First goal only Phillips won a header, Coker, White all outmuscled, pathetic challenge from Timlin and Prosser turns away, rather than race out to block the shot. Second goal awful mistake from Prosser and no one got to the second ball. Third again Prosser turning away from the ball. He had a nightmare having done well so far this season but I do think he is a squad player and that the centre back partnership will be a problem all season unless the embargo can be lifted.

Agree with this. I've stuck up for Prosser this season but he had a mare. Can understand what Di Canio was saying about not being able to change the heart of his players and it kind of applies to Prosser here. As you said he turned away from two shots which turned into goals. All you have to do is get your body in the way. If it hits you in the face, chest, stomach, arm, b*****s, it's all better than conceding goals. Need a bit more commitment and bravery from the defence if we're getting out of League 2 this season. Like Brown said post Wycombe, you've got to put your head in where it hurts and unfortunately it appears we still have a few who aren't willing to do this. Might be a bit harsh but just frustrating watching goals conceded that could've been easily avoided.

I thought yesterday was tactically mistaken by Phil brown all i watched was us do in the first half was pump that ball long to our front players to of which are of smaller height to most teams defences! we missed Barry Corrs height big time yesterday didnt really think much of hurst or timlin either. What happened to the football on the deck we had witnessed the other 3 home games this season  Big time missing Laird in the middle of the park.
