Post-Match Thread and Ratings Southend United 1-2 Col U *Spit*

Seems like our (very fragile) truce is off eh Scotty? Just after I posted green rep for you as well oh well it comes as no surprise.

I need shutting up do I? Think that a drunken rant on here is going to do it? Funny how I got banned for a week for you mentioning you going off your trolley in France. I suppose we will see what action is taken by the mods against you here for this one eh?

I felt the atmosphere was subdued in the ground but as has been said before, from the South Upper you cannot always hear the SUFC fans in the West but as you seem to take this as personal criticism, what am I supposed to say? "Oh Scott, you are such a wonderful fan banging on your drum - we are so lucky to have such great fans like yourself and you are truly one in a million. No other Southend fan even comes close to being the wonderful person you are and thank you, thank yo, thank you for all your efforts on our behalf" - okay, there I said it...:)

I take it that with with you ending our agreed truce to ignore each other, I can expect your usual ignorance now every time I post? Oh well, bring it on if that's the way you want it.

Steak meal?

Why would I want anything from a Tottenham fan?

My take on the game was as follows;
Joyce- very shakey at times, his kicking was preety awful and at times they didnt make it pass the half way line.
Francis- needs a rocket up his arse! he can get forward and put in a good cross but didnt seem bothered about doing so, but its intresting how everytime reid and magnus o. missed a header for them boothroyd would be shouting at them saying 'hey come on u know, that should be yours', whereas tilson stands there with his arms folded, players like francis need to be shouted at to motivate them more.
Morrison- A decent defender at this level, very decent in the air, not sure how francis got MOM over him
Barrett- preety solid, had a good little mazy run at the end
Malone- first time ive seen him, dont think hes overly that bad on the whole, put in 1 or 2 good crosses, but put in quite a few straight into the keepers hands as well.
Grant- Looked ok, seemed to drop back in front of the back 4 second half, everytime i see him play he always seems to be absoloultey shattered by about 60 minutes-
Christophe- can give a good few short passes, but gave it away far too often yesterday which cost us
Macca- didnt really get involved that much, played ok and suprised he didnt get a red at some point
Moussa- looked preety average, really needs to work on a change of pace going forward to beat a player
Laurent- Hit and miss, knows how to beat a player but then will beat him and trip over his own feet
Barnard- didnt see too much of the ball, had a neat few chests down.

Subs- when barney headed the ball in i thought oh we have a chance here to get back in it, then i realised we had bought on scannell and walker!

Col u were preety bad at heading at the back, few times the ball whizzed a cross and no one got there head on it, Izzet was playing the robbie savage role and winding up macca well, thought gillespie could have had a few goals but everyone of his shots ended outside the ground i think

Annoying day. We took ages to get going and indeed only did when we were two down.

The defense were indecisive all afternoon but I felt Malone saved our *** three times in the first half with a goal line clearance and two good headers away when left with 2 on 1 to deal with. Morrison was good too. Francis as ever was patchy but along with Barnard turned our game around.

Barney had little to work with all day and you could just tell some switch flicked in him after we went 2 down. He was a machine. Great lay offs, excellent running, held it up well, didn't lose his rag, ran for every throw in and scored a great strikers goal. Fir ten minutes any watching manager would have seen how good a player he is. But when Scannell blocked his golden chance on the line you could tell he knew that was his last chance...

They weren't great, but yet again it took until there was no pressure on us to start playing ball. Weird. I firmly believe there's a good side out there, but it needs a link or a bit of rearranging to make it gel.

BTW, didn't think Joyce was too bad. Second goal was a peach after an unfortunate slip by Francis (their goalie went over twice there first half too) and first was a catalogue of errors in his defense.

Ref was largely ok. Gave a few baffling 50/50s to them second half but couldn't massively fault him alas.

I don't see why Joyce is getting so much stick - okay he didn't cover himself in glory, but if Barrett hadn't run away from the ball and Francis tripped over his own feet then neither goal would have been conceded.

Agree that Morrison was the plus point though, looked very solid more than making up for his lack of pace

It is very simple to see why Joyce is getting such a lot of stick. He wasn't asked to do much as Colchester had very few meaningful attacks - certainly few that threatened goal. Barrett was shepherding a ball back to him in the first half and he didn't come out, almost causing a goal - a symptom of his poor communication. The fiasco with the wall in the second half was the result of an absolutely basic error - he didn't protect the side of goal away from the wall. His distribution was generally poor. It's no good citing his lack of first team games - you either know how to do the job and deserve a start or you don't.
