According to Timlin pre-match Sturrock hadn't been in all week and Widdrington had been taking training alone. Not great preparation when you're switching formation for Saturday's game eh?

PS refused to be interviewed by BBC Essex after the game and sent Johnny Herd out instead. Sturrock said he refused to take responsibility for that passionless display......well he should take some responsibility, he's the MANAGER!!

in all fairness he is on his last legs anyway !!!! I mean who the fek has heard of manager that has to fek off to bed when we are in a penelty shoot out then blame it on the dramas!!!! I like the bloke, a real character and proble in his day new his stuff, but feking hell there was only one reason he came here, thats because no other khunt was going to employ a man i9n his condition!!! and as for not taking the blame, for me the nblame lies with the man that employed him then it falls with him concerning tactics and employing the men to play those tactics the player bar about 2 or 3 arent league footballers anyway so you cnat really blame them were just in a really bad place and time at the monet and unfortunately it aint beginning to get better for along time yet"!!!

Sturrock got it wrong big time today.

Herd is lightweight and although he played ok going forward he can't defend and was at fault twice for the second goal.

Prosser is awful, seen him play twice and he is potentially the worse defender I've seen in 20 years of following Southend.

Those people singing Martin out at the end were a total embarrassment for singing Martin out.[/QUOTE]

Um....why? Wasn't he responsible for sacking Brush, putting Tilly on gardening leave and then appointing Sturrock?

I'm not sure why the 'Martin Out' chants were only coming from the West Stand, surely all the stands should've been singing this.

Another stupid comment. Dont you all realise that a few pointless chants from the stands will not see RM leave. He is here to stay one way or the other. All the protests last season, banners etc made no difference. It is not PS or the current players fault that the club is in a mess, but, maybe with our support we can help move things forward on the pitch at least. Today was poor yes, but we can still try to lift the players. Would someone from the blue voice, who are there as a voice for all the fans, like to explain exactly what they thought would be acheived by the chanting. I for one would never join in that sort of chanting during the game. GET BEHIND PS and the TEAM. UTB

In the end they probably got what the results deserved. The last two seasons were not great and most chairman wouldnt have given them as much time. Yes we had some great times under them and thankyou, but we should never of got relegated with the quality of players we had last season.

Little bit of perspective... we were missing at least 5 first teamers today - Mohsni, Gilbert, Simpson, Corr and Sturrock. Thats a lot to take out of a settled side and I defy any team to perform at their best with those numbers being out - just doesnt happen.

That said, performances at home are becoming a BIG worry and for now, Sturrock needs to get these players back playing 442 to get some confidence back.

how settled is that settled team then ??? tell me how long that settled team have played togther now?

Completely agree. Would rep you but need to spread it around a bit first. Some of you are unbelievably quick to turn on Sturrock after one bad game. Easton should be added to pboreham's list of missing first teamers meaning that we had only 5 of the first 11 out there.

Really? In 2008/09 we finished 8th in League One and drew at Chelsea in the FA Cup, that's far better than where we are now.

As for last season, not many chairmen would mess the players and management about by continually not paying them, subject the club to a transfer embargo for most of the season and sack the coach with two months left of the season and replace him with one who disappears within 2 weeks!

You clearly take the pressure off me, being the biggest wind up on this board

I did say at the start of the season that I would give it ten games and then see how we were performing before commenting on performances because the players need time to gell as well as the manager. Thought at best today we looked very ordinary with only "Grant and Clohessy " Putting in a reputable shift and first half with the 3-5-2 looked ok but never threatened at all. Seen enough of prosser to realise he is not league 2 standard and needs to move on and It maybe controversial but our entire strike force including pato need to shape up or ship out as all I have seen is dross served up in a blue shirt. We can all moan about service and not getting the ball up quick enough but who is coaching our forwards because they look like donkeys. Pato should stop trying to chest the ball down and control it and use that big thing attached to his neck and learn to tackle.......does anyone tackle anymore? To be fair to them today they defended very well without really troubling us going forward and apart from the goals did not leave an overiding impression on me. We missed easton and simpson today and it showed because we never troubled them in the final third, we just need to win ugly to give the players a bit of a lift at home, although it could not come much uglier than today. I listened to P.S on BBC Essex on the way home and although I thought it was a passionless performance maybe the constant hammering of the team, I feel is a negative thing and he should perhaps try and look at the bigger picture, rome was not built in a day and neither will be our new stadium.

Forget Chelsea, we were so lucky and then got shat on in the replay. any1 at the bridge knows we should have lost by 5 or 6, we were just very lucky on the day. as for the league we went backwards under tilson in my opinion and yes the players were badly treated im not saying they werent, but they owed the fans a lot more than they gave us in the end. the lack of effort on the pitch was poor, did we stop travelling all over the country to support...NO did we stop turning up at home games .... NO, im afraid the players did

agree mostly wioth this, but brush and tilson also got much wrong last season. tactics were poor, no plan B etc.... not just me saying this. i am and will always be greatful for what they did but times move on and so must we. i have supported the club for 31 years, the likes of david webb, smith, fry etc have also given us much pleasure but have moved on. lets just hope we can all move on and see more good times ahead. BUT, we must start by getting behind the current management and team.

352 didn't work at all and I think it was poor that it wasn't changed until we went behind. in saying that it didn't improve with 442.

Morris 5 wouldn't be surprised if Evans gets a game next week
Clohessy 6 Not a natural wing back
Herd 5 as above but made too many mistakes. Can't see him keeping his place
Coughlan 5 Phillips in next week
Prosser 5 Again too many mistakes
Barker 6 -
Soares 4 -Done nothing in middle or wide - why do they keep picking him?
Timlin 6 -
Grant 6
Paterson 5 - looked weak and never got into the game
Fairhurst 5 - as above

Crawford 6 -
Hall 6 -
Jarvis 5 Can't see us wanting to keep him

I'm not a big fan of Blair but have to say none of the forwards on show today looked better. Hopefully Corr will be back soon and Zaaboub gets a shout and performs more like his old self

Pato should stop trying to chest the ball down and control it and use that big thing attached to his neck and learn to tackle.

I'm guessing you're not his biggest fan but surely you can't be advocating this. It would be much safer for him to use his feet to tackle :dim:

i think we have a decent manager but i would have played 4 4 2 hall would have started for sure but if we dont get behide the players we be stuggling to be mid table at best

But would we have got relegated if the players had actually been paid on time? The sort of performance I saw against Leeds early last season in September was far different from what was on offer against Stockport in the last home game.

People only carried on coming to home games last season because most already had a season ticket. Our home support is over 2,000 down on last season so people have voted with their feet this season.

Same thing could happen this season, we have 3,500 season ticket holders which will keep crowds up near the 5,000 mark. But if we continue to struggle how many of those will renew for next season which if we believe Ron Martin will be the last at Roots Hall.

We could have had 60,000 supporters making the biggest din in the world and we still would not have won today.
Yes sometimes fans can make the difference but I doubt it would have helped today.

Stockport?, i feel your being generous .From the start of the new year, i did'nt see a single home game which was on par with the commitment shown in our home games up to then, irrelevant of the results. The game that stands out was against Gillingham last oct when our financial plight was made public beforehand. The atmosphere at that game was superb, and when Barnard scored in injury time you would have thought that we'd just won the cup!. I put £20 in the collection bucket when leaving the ground. I would'nt throw a 20p coin in one now, after whats happened since then.

up the shrimpers your right but i wish ron martin would open his trap and give us some good news because i feel this club is feeling like me down in the dumps i think we need some good news i want a new stadium and i want to be in the championship with freddy eastwood and i want stan colloymore up front too

I just have t6o add to that.....

People seem to be forgetting that Roots Hall, on the whole, is generally like a morgue?!?! All this about getting behind the players etc is always amusing, as come matchday we have about 5% of the crowd making noise lol

was sitting next to moshni today in the east stand, so wished he was playing today, cant wait till he is back, put him straight back in please.
