perhaps someone could educate me here?

a number of people have said Timlin was their man of the match. Personally im not convinced ive seen what he brings to the team in the 15 or so home games ive been to this season. I can see that he works hard, but then i run out of ideas as to what he does to get so much praise?

Totally agree. If he could pass a ball it would help, all the hard work in the world is no compensation if you lack the basics, which he does. To me he is erratic - you never know where he will pop up on the pitch. His pass completion rate must be very low. Get Lairdy on in his place!!

Ref was poor, Frampton kicked out at barnard infront of the ref, he does nothing.
Appiah threw his head into timlins, not sent off.
Appiah throws himself to ground screaming at every point and then runs off absolutely fine seconds later. Absolute scum and does not deserve to be paid by this sport. I hope to god his career takes him no where and he is serving chicken in kfc by 24 years of age. The word scum is almost to good to describe the lad.

BUT we was poor going forward.
Brown just threw on attackers and nobody knew where they was playing! Corr ended up down the wing while Loza hung in the box? Where is the sense in this? Madness

Suggs wouldn't be any better to be fair

it was actually quite tactically astute (although clearly it didnt pay off in the end) to play corr up against their small, young full back. he should have been able to bully him aerially, and get in virtually unmarked at the far post from crosses.

Agreed, but BBBC seems much more of a threat the way we play so why not start with him and if he tires bring Barney on to finish the opposition off after Barry has battered them into submission ?

Personally I wouldn't fancy Barney to finish his dinner at the moment, let alone finish the opposition off!

Leonard and Atkinson both do that too, but then Leonard bursts forwards with the ball, gets decent shots away, mostly uses the ball well and is solid defensively. thats without mentioning his throws. Atkinson works arguably harder than anyone else in the side for me, and often shows flair going forwards as well as a decent passing range.

Then theres timlin. ive seen reasonable passing at times although not a lot of it going forward. ive also seen him make stupid mistakes like when he had the chance to clear down the line on his weak foot but instead turned onto his left and played a lovely cross onto the head of the opposition centre forward.

Ive got no reason to dislike him, i just genuinely dont see what extra he brings to the team over his positional rivals.

+1

Never rated Timlin. Would gladly see him bombed out over the summer

I think quite simply our manager was out thought tactically by theirs!

I wouldn't have minded their forward Appiah playing for us, at least he showed passion and the desire to win even if he was a cheat! He also won free kicks in dangerous areas. We seem to lack a nasty little g!t of a player who will wind up the opposition.

I think Lee Barnard is playing with the mill stone of not having a contract for next season hanging around his neck. I am not saying that I would sign him though, as imo he hasn't shown that he is worth a contract.

Hurst as I have said before needs to be rested along with Atkinson who I think is knackered.

Tactics (if there are any) seem to be; get the ball out wide punt it across field and hope, or hump it down field towards Loza and hope.

There were times yesterday when even if there was an opportunity to cross, there was not one Blues player anywhere near the penalty area. Why is it that opposition teams attack (move up the pitch) as a team and create options and then defend as a team.... yet we do not.

I am not sure what's going on but it makes me wonder whether Brown and Penney are singing off the same hymn sheet,.

Not sure what game Brown was watching yesterday, but going by his after match comments on BBC Essex it wasn't the same one that I witnessed!

My mom was Timlin who scored an 8
The rest Scored a 6

I think Coker suffered from having two out of form midfielders in from of him for the whole game.

My first match since the debacle that was Northants away. But for the pen it had 0-0 written all over it. Both Loza and Egan were unfortunate not to score with stunning strikes and Barry headed over a glorious chance to level it up. And Ryan L shot across goal and wide when well positioned. But overall our problem about scoring was there for all to see.

Special mention for the twin centre-backs. They had a real examination and generally coped well. Not always winning everything in the air (Midson was awkward in a way he never was for us!) but they generally had it all under control at the back save for the challenge which gave away the pen. Some outstanding crossfield pin point passing by Egan. And both know how to head a ball defensively so as to to get good depth of clearance upfield.

When we went three at the back Timlin did a great covering job in front of them as we pressed for the leveller. Seems that PB has made up his mind that Laird is not for him.

Next up will be making the long trip to Dale. Now that will be a toughie. 2-2 scoreline suggests itself (Really?) And Oxford play York that day too. Interesting times.

Having now seen the pen, what was Eaten doing? Clear cut penalty and Eagan wasn't even the last man, there was no need. I know he had been great but that was a MASSIVE error .
Bentley will be disappointed with the penalty, pointless guessing the right way if the ball goes under you.
Barney- useless. Adds nothing and is not putting in the runs in case a flick on comes off. Yes the service Is crap but effectivemy with him on the pitch we just don't look like we are going to score.Core unlike Barney gets in the right place at the right time, but then misses the target.
Watching our shooting practice before the match I thought it was pathetic when two shots in a row went into the south upper. Turns out they were closer than our shooting during the game.

I could go on for ages it was so crap. I have said it before at the begdining of the season Brown made a big thing over we have no leaders in the team. That was evident again yesterday. I would like to see straker and corr start and drop Barney and Hurst. Quite happy to see wholesale changes to be honest. I don't expect us to win every game, but I also don't expect to watch that rubbish. I thought Brown played the attractive stuff and sturrock long ball ?

Timlin wasn't my man of the match and that was far from his best game but he gives us lots more than his hardwork as he's one of the few who tries things. Now some people can't stand him because when it doesn't come off he gives the ball away, but if you just try and pass the ball sideways 5 yards each time you aren't going to score any goals.

You need players who will try and beat a man, whether it will be on the deck (like Straker) or by passing, like Timlin. He's about the only player (other than Lenny) who will try take an opponent out of the game with a pass or inject some pace into the game with an early ball. That's not always going to come off, but even when it doesn't go to its intended target things can happen if we can pick up the pieces from a half clearance. Similarly, he's one of the few who alters the direction of an attack with a quick switch, or by creating an angle, or by running in front of the ball to create some space or give a forward option.

Whilst we are well organised, I find us a boring team to watch with little flair; Timlin's one of the few who will attempt anything interesting and plays with any real purpose.

Whilst it's difficult to measure such value, what I think probably demonstrates his value is how we invariably look a worst side once he's been subbed. He's been taken off loads this season and almost every time we've looked worse as a result.

I have to agree with all of that. Sometimes someone has to try the killer ball and other pjayers either don't see it or play it safe. Anyone can keep possession with a pass , creating an opening with a pass is far more difficult.

Well said Yorkshire Blue, I would green if i could. Timlin was my auxilliary man of the match behind Sokolik who I thought was tremendous.

I was debating after the game whether Timlin was actually man of the match or whether I was just happy to see him getting back to his best, where I feel he hasn't been lately. Yes, some of his passes may go astray, but quick movement of the ball is what I think is lacking from our team at the moment. We lacked it at Cheltenham, and we lacked it again. If Timlin is the only one trying high reward/high risk passes then his missed passes will stand out more. I'm all for it.

I found myself specifically watching Timlin for large parts of Saturday's game. That was a conscious effort on my part because I know that his place in the team does provoke much discussion. So it's all about perception really and I thought he had his best game for us this season. His work rate was second only to Atkinson and his distribution was as good as its been during any part of his time at the club. But I guess you have to think who we have in reserve. Laird gives the more defensive capability and Clifford will give us (potentially) a bit more drive. For me, Timlin gives us a fair balance between the two of those and is one of my first choices on the team sheet. However, I grant you that his passing does leave a little to be desired at times.

I made him my MOTM because whenever the wombles had possession he was in their faces. Constantly hassling and closing people down, all over the park. The only trouble with that role is that when he does get possession its scrappy. The thing I couldn't work out, is who is playing left mid ? Timlin and Will were all over the pitch so it left a huge hole in front of Coker. The fact Coker was doing two jobs was probably a reason why he didn't have his best game.

Agree with this entirely
