Southend to be approached

So Barnes is upset that no League one clubs ("Perhaps I could understand it if I was applying for jobs at the top level but these were clubs in League One.") are willing to gamble a season on employing a totally untried manager.. How dare they!! naturally he hints about it possibly perhaps have something to do with him being black

Is he untried? I thought he was at Celtic or somewhere and a complete flop?

I'd suggest he'd be better off getting his coaching badges and apply for some coaching posts instead of going straight for a managers job. But in any case I'd struggle to imagine him as a manager, having seen him present Channel 5's footie. Can anyone imagine him impressing in an interview? Surely football managers need a bit of charisma.

According to the MK Dons forum, the only mention of ST being linked with them has come from THIS SITE!!!

They believe that they can attract a much "better" candidate and are looking to Sam Allerdyce or Paul Lambert. Most of them are wanting Danny Wilson!!!

I therefore very much doubt that the rumour has any legs at all........

Like you say, YB, though if they work their socks off they might just scrape by...

:)

I wonder if the fact that a less experienced ,less qualified , less successful coach in Paul Ince getting a Prem job will rankle with Tilly and therefore influence his thinking at the moment ??. He may be justified in feeling a bit peeved that Ince gets his big chance so early in his coaching career and Tilly may be feeling a "bit left on the shelf " and that mindset may come into play if and when MK Dons come in for what would surely be a good fit for them ??

Paul Ince is a former England captain who has played for some of the biggest clubs in Europe. I suspect that a fair percentage of players in the Premier League wouldn't know who Steve Tilson was if he bumped into them in the street. If Tilly got a job in the Premier League he'd last six months at best because he wouldn't be able to command the respect of his players. Guys like Ince, Hughes, Keane and Shearer can and will get these opportunities and I'm sure that Tilly knows that there's not much he can do about it.

Arsene Wenger, the special one and even Alex Ferguson made it without being internationals. Charlton, Moore and Ball all won the world cup but failed at club management. Being a top level footballer doesn't guarantee success in management, but it does open a few doors.

Oh it has legs, trust me. Their club are definitely interested, but I very much doubt the feeling is mutual with Tilly!

Exact. I'm pretty certain that the thought of MK Dons and the vacancy there haven't even crossed his mind.

The thing is i'm convinced less and less premiership players and footballers in genral are football fans, by that i mean following the different leagues gossip as we do. If this is the case and players now earn enough in the top flight to ensure they don't have to play lower league football than someone like Tilly would struggle with players on bigger money and with bigger reputations than his. Is there as much respect for what players/coaches have achieved in the game now than what car they drive or how charming they are when talking to the press?

Hopefully they will get someone that will overspend and wreck the pitiful excuse for a football club. Tilly would be nuts to go there, cant believe anyone on here has mentioned mkplastics in the same breath as the shrimpers!! Shame on you.

Yeah, that's why Tilly's been a success for us... his impressive charisma when being interviewed for TV!!!

Tilly might not be a polished media performer, but I think he has a little Essex charm that I, and seemingly the players, can relate to.

I could only relate to the Lucozade man if I was made of wood.

so agree with this - hes being himself rather than a rent a gob talk nonsense in a loud voice like some -

one of us and all that -

What the players relate to is not the same Tilly that appears in front of the cameras. In front of the cameras Tilly is as nervous as hell and really needs to work on it. The same poor qualities Barnes is being criticised for.

I agree Tilly comes across as nervous, but I still think he manages to exude more personality than experienced TV presenter John Barnes.
