Southend Phoenix

If we were to start anew Southend is now a city and shold be recognised as such . SOUTHEND CITY FC. ( formerly known as Southend United FC ) go back to our original colours also .

There is already a Southend City so we couldn't use that

What about Southend Athletic to give a nod to the original club in Southend

We wouldn't be free from Ron. He'd never just give us Roots Hall, and even if he did, I doubt we'd be able to afford to maintain it.

Of course the rat family wouldn't give it but if the council make it clear it was protected with no chance of housing being built, then it could be purchased by the club. Same as what happened at bury.

Would you want the shrimperstrust to run it I personally would not ,they seem to think they have the right ,it be like having another dodgy owner again

If it's Southend Phoenix (not United) does it need to be AFC or can it just be Southend Phoenix FC?

I always thought clubs used AFC so they can use most of their original name with the slightest of changes. CFC seems to be more popular these days.

Only read this thread today - as an aging exile a Phoenix Club is not of a lot of interest.

The first club to use AFC was the once named Bournemouth and Boscombe Athletic - a bit of a mouthful and not very trendy.

In the early 70s the young manager John Bond put a bit of oomph into the club and they had the idea of renaming themselves to AFC Bournemouth. Thus they became the number 1 club in the League - alphabetically above Aldershot, Arsenal and Aston Villa.

Of course since Accrington Stanley regained their place in the League they are no longer number 1.

Accrington Stanley did not regain their place in the league.

They were a brand new club formed several years after the original club ceased coexist.

You could say they were a Phoenix club. Look how well that Phoenix club have done

Inter Southend blue and pink. Instead of the Pink Flamingos of Inter Miami we could have a pair of symmetrical pink shrimps.

Good point - it took them 38 years to get into the Football League. The new club was formed in 1968, two years after the old club disbanded.

With it looking more and more likely by the day that a phoenix club will be needed, how far along have the Trust got with planning for this?

Also have they approached any members of COSU to gauge their interest in supporting a phoenix club, whether financially or through their various contacts? Or even Stan, seeing as he seems to have various contacts throughout the leagues?
