Southend High Street Owl man.

Just gonna stick up for owl man, people take pictures of the birds etc etc, I know he donates money to havens on a regular basis from what he collects in town I presume.

Wouldn't that be Ravens.

He still does, he lives on Kingsleigh Park which is the caravan site in Thundersley. There was a court case a few years back but I can't recall the details, and I believe it was a not guilty.

Has anyone seen/Heard of a guy called Franko? Usually near the Sunroom's/ Seafront end of the town. He's homeless and hamless but can be a right pain, where you want a quite drink outside.

not heard of him

Has anyone else ever been asked by that woman that stinks of p*ss in Southchurch "Got a pound/quid"?

Penny Picker Steve has had his income drasticly cut since they refurbished the high street and removed all the drains and replaced them with slots which he cant get at. I reckon the bucket he uses is more brown packing tape than bucket!

Along Whitmore Way in Basildon we have Bingo Jim, who will do a song and dance for a fag. He got the moniker because during the 90's, when he was in his early 70's, he'd be found in Raquels or Time on Saturday nights wearing his brown polyester shirt and matching tie with grey slacks, strutting his stuff and shouting "Bingo" every time a woman hugged him. He looks a bit like Arthur Askey on Red Bull.

hahaha yeah i see that 'womble' guy all the time. he often comes into the hospital to shout 'madam' at all the nurses and is generally a nuisance!

He used to eat in the Hospital Cafe on a daily basis with two friends, a thin man in a trilby hat that he called "Mr Weasel" and a old woman who wore trousers with a dress over the top that he called "Mrs Spider". It was fun sitting near them and listening to the gibberish conversations.

so do you know him properly then?!

I was outside the Spread before yesterday's match when Michael walked past , he stopped and said "Hello Squire" before telling me he had a throat infection caused by damage to his windpipe when 4 blokes grabbed his throat.
He went on to say "My doctor is sending me to the hospital at London ZOO to be looked at "

The man is a legend.

ah man this thread is laugh out loud funny. There is a Beadle tribute site on Myspace and also one on Facebook. I think pick a penny Steve has got a facebook tribute group as well.

Some true legends of the Southend area.

Does anyone remember the guy with a long beard and green bottle glasses, Eddie the Eagle style. He used to randomly stomp up and down the high street. One time he was doing it with a fold up chair hanging off his neck.

Your right Kenny, Steve does have a facebook group dedicated to him. They were all out in force yesterday, I saw Salvo the clown, the Peruvian band, the owl man and even saw Steve getting a lift from someone.
The most famous guy in town surely has to be the old bloke in TALK, just about everyone has got a photo with him.
