Southend FANS vs millwall FANS

Millwalls support was superb last night, in total contrast to the noise we made.

Apaz we were singing loudly but couldn't hear it.

Anyway, I have come up with a plan. We should take the roof off the north bank so that away fans can't be heard, and instead get soaked on nights like last night.

I think a lot of the problem is that the sound is directed upwards straight into the roof as most of the singers stand at the back.

Why not try and bring TBV to the front of the West for a couple of games and see if it makes a difference?

That thought has crossed my mind actually.

Although I would prefer it if we could fill Block V/W week in week out, with "singers" rather than worry about the positioning of the people within these two sections.

I would urge as many of you as possible to just give it a go for the remaining home games this season. Whether you are a season card holder elsewhere in the stadium (we can arrange temporary re-location of your seats to V/W) or you buy tickets on a matchday. Give V/W a try and sample the atmosphere we create in there. Who knows, if it is full, maybe the noise will travel....

What about the two end blocks in the South lower for a game, that would bring the East balcks n Greens in to it.. Travel around the ground where you can spreading the word..

i heard millwall all game, I thought blue voice had taken the night off,
(main stand)

We certainly didn't.

Anyone in W and V will vouch for the decent noise levels we created last night.

This problem is even bigger than I thought.

Solutions please people?....

i like it how people comment on the tbv saying taken the night off etc. whats stopping you singing. just because you don't sit the tbv section doesn't mean the rest of the ground should be a library. this is our biggest prolem not just the roof of the west.

i just find it very ironic and people constantly put a negative spin on tbv. when what you should do is get off your arse and start singing.

I've said it before and I'll say it again.

The curved roof in the west makes the acoustics bounce back onto the crowd instead of radiating out onto the pitch.

This means that the West thinks they are very loud as the noise is all around them however no-one else can hear them as the sound is going nowhere.

Very simple physics. In short the acoustics in the west are shagged.

TBV weren't bad but agree with the acoustic issue, I was sat in the middle of the South Upper and could hear our boys, but Millwall sounded louder. They did ok actually but then they were winning. They were nowhere near as good as we were at Peterborough on Saturday of course but when you set the bar as high as that...

maybe the west stand isnt the option i think the east stand shud be given a chance! move tbv over to blue and yellow sections and see if it sounds louder!

last night millwall were really loud, lots of racist chanting which shows our stewards to be poor.

another thing that got me is our stewards tell us to sit down all the time which ever part of the ground we're in but last night too scared to get millwall to sit down! in past games they've told away teams to sit down!

sit in east yellow and didnt hear tbv that much at all!

I was in the South Upper and there was alot of noise at times from the Millwall end but hardly any from TBV

There was plenty of noise from our section. The rest of you outside V & W just couldnt really hear it!

It was the weather, TBV noise was being blown in wrong direction straight out the ground. Same reason why we couldnt hear them as well.

Yes, as you say the barrelled roof just means the sounds goes up then follows the curve back down on top of us and doesn't make it out into the rest of the stadium.

What bugs me is, it is the same roof design in the North bank isn't it? So why are the acoustics better in there?...

I expect it's partly to do with the fact that away fans tend to be louder in general anyway. They are the true "die hards" who follow their team around the country and as a rule they make more noise. That is also true of Southend fans on away days when you think about it as we are often heralded as some of the best support that teams have seen visit them.

Of course.

But when small gatherings come down (like Crewe) even they made a lot of noise. Even the most passionate die hard group of <100 fans should not be able to make enough racket in the north, so that it travels around the entire stadium.

What is it that makes the north so bloody good for acoustics, as the roof is very similar isn't it?

Simple Solution:

Everybody ****ing sing!

agreed. people make excuse after excuse but the brutal truth is that 2 sections out of the whole ground sing. sure others try there best in south upper ect but they never get the rest going.

i remember when chelmsford had the whole west and they made plenty of noise. if they can do it we can do it.

the roof is a shape that doesn't help us sure but does that stop the rest of the west, east and south stop singing.

somehow don't think so.

well done to tbv for actualy giving it a go.

Singing isn't compulsory. Many people are happy to watch, applaud and maybe cheer and shout the odd word of encouragement. Especially so when half the "songs" are aimed at abusing the opposing fans rather than encouraging the team.
