Southend are poised to sign Barry Corr and Adebayo Akinfenwa

This is one of those things that surely must have legs though, because Sky Sports surely wouldn't give two hoots otherwise about us. Would they?

Right so we would have a front line of, Akinfenwa, Barry Corr, Matt Patterson, Scott Spencer and Harry Crawford.

Let's have it.

I hope Spencer isn't pushed out now, I wouldn't have thought he will be. I think most of the squad we have will stay.

Are we playing 5 up front this year then...well at least that is different.

akinfenwa will hold the ball up well if he manages to stay under 17 stone this season ha ha

He's the only player I've seen that can carry that type of weight without slowing him down. He can really motor and defenders bounce off him.
Always remember when we played Swansea, he scored and gave our defenders a torrid time.

Was some years back though, but still - he's scored goals at this level, is certainly a different option and experienced.

Perhaps an Akinfenwa/Spencer partnership could work.

Wonder if this means Patterson could be off?

interesting quote from the man himself a few weeks ago

Adebayo Akinfenwa has confirmed his interest in moving to Aberdeen.

The 28-year-old frontman is out-of-contract at Northampton and has shunned the offer to remain at Sixfields.

The former Millwall and Swansea ace insists he is looking to return to a higher level, and admits a move to the SPL does appeal.

"Aberdeen are a big club," Akinfenwa told the Aberdeen Evening Express.

"I've got some good friends in Scotland and they tell me that.

"I am leaving Northampton to play at a higher level and all interest is welcome.

Definitely see this as an Akinfenwa/Paterson front two. Paterson is here for the long run. Think Crawford will be more reserve/bench and Corr and Screech vying for pitch time.

I can only see this as really, really positive.

Now a couple of big bruising centre backs and I will be a very happy chappy!!

Bitterly cold up in Aberdeen tho, much better down here in the driest place in Britain. Probably told about our lovely seaside as well.

As I said in the other thread, Akinfenwa has had injuries over the years but has looked back to his best in the last season or so. I'd be very pleased with that signing if true.

I'd have thought that Spencer would have a part to play as he's a very different forward to the other strikers we'd have on the books if these two moves come off.

If Paul Sturrock pulls off the Akinfenwa signing, it will be a testament to the lure and the magnetism of the man.
Akinfenwa said he wants to play at a higher level, so he has to leave Northampton. He also has a bundle of clubs after him.
So if he now signs for Southend, we have to give Paul Sturrock a massive thumbs-up.

He also said in an interview that he wants to get a move closer to his East London home where he has a young family, and is sick of commuting 4 - 5 hours round trip to Norffhumptan.
Will be a brill signing.

Michael Ricketts anybody?

Bayo has always struck me as a sort of "Ricketts-lite" - not quite as fat, not quite as talented on his good days, but fewer tantrums and less likely to self-destruct.

It could all end in tears; however, given that I didn't think we had a pot to p*ss in, his capture would be an extraordinary piece of work by the club. I for one would be delighted to see him in a Southend shirt.

I'd be very very happy to get AA. Good scoring record, just under 1 every 2 games at N'hampton. Barry Corr was quite rated I remember and hopefully PS can get the best out of him.

We'd have a very decent attack if thee go through.

Also, I think this is just what we need right now, some experience and 'less' risky signings. Tilson brought in a fair few young players who were risks, some paid off (Eastwood) and some didn't (Walker). For now getting these proven players in might be the best route.

What type of player is Corr? I've read the Swindon fan the other day being very complimentary of him but his goalscoring record and disciplinary record says to me that he's a Drewe Broughton clone.
