I think it should be left to a council of the famous "Swansea 37" to pass judgement on whether those that left before the end are true fans.

To be judged by anyone else would be a travesty.....!

In keeping with recent high profile news events i would suggest that the incinerator chimney at Southend General could be used to communicate the S37's judgement to the unworthy masses. Black smoke denotes glory hunter, white smoke denotes a true blue.

Is this idea a winner?

I have to admit when alot of the fans around me walked out after the second goal it annoyed me, another 3 or 4 minutes to clap the team after the game wasnt gonna hurt.

Anyway gutted about the result I felt sick during the second-half we were so on top but just couldn't quite deliver the final ball, the longer it went on the worse I was feeling.

Barrett is a f**king legend if a couple more of our players showed us much determination and drive and never say die attitude we would have won easily!

UP THE BLUES!!

Don't you dare call some of us an glory hunter - I was an fan who come to root-hall few time for an big game agasint the like of Wolves, Sheffield Utd & Ipswich but never every games in earlier 90's, but got hooked & since then, I have going to every game for United.

These 20'000+ Southenders make an effort to travel over 400+ miles to Cardiff & pay lot of money & took their family with them for an day out (shame we did'nt get the win we wanted) and an visit to the Stadium. Try telling that to them if they are Glory Hunter
rock.gif
more fans the better the club can be. Not long time ago, Plymouth at our level was struggling with around 4'000 fans or less, look where they are now.

So are you gonna call me an glory hunter now? I have making the effort to get my friend to become Southend Utd fans with sucess so do you want me to tell them not to bother going cos they are glory hunter like you said.

I have forgetten the hurt & pains from Cardiff, will you forget it? let put it behind us & get behind the team for Orient game, its bigger than the Final.

Good for you knob nuts. I spend over 200 quid on the weekend, and had I not been back to where I had to be in time, would have been in a world of pain worse than most things you can imagine. So I left immediately after the final whistle.

If you think that makes me a disgrace, whatever.

For f**ks sake, whilst i agree you should stay and appluad the players, i also think it is the right of anyone who buys a ticket to decide when and if they leave the game. They should not be in fear of getting 'moaned or shouted at'

The main thing is they came out on the day to support the club, yes most of them are glory hunters, but they were there in the southend half and giving money to the club.

I suggest, instead of picking on those that went to Cardiff, you look at those who couldnt be bothered.

To add my point I also left as the 2nd goal was conceded(I didn't want to be that guy who sky sports home in on crying at the end!!). Once I got outside I immediatlely felt bad that I did not stay and appaud the players at the end. I'm sure they understand how gutted we all were and do not take offence.

Like a significant majority of our fans, I got up and left when Wrexham scored their second and I congratulate them for being the better team on the day. I couldn't face watching the final couple of minutes due to being rather angry about the first goal, which was mixed in with my overall disappointment at losing the game.

I did return the the top of the steps of M19 for one last look and to applaude the players. I then proceeded with my group to the Prince Of Wales Pub to drown my sorrows. The chants of "Stick yer dragon up yer a*se" were funny and the bar staff replied with "stick yer shrimps up yer a*se"

Like last year, there was no trouble (that we saw) and it was a thoroughly enjoyable day, except for the result!!!

Quote[/b] (Guest @ April 11 2005,12:33)]what about the lincoln 5 in 1983 or the port vale 1 in 1984
The Port Vale 1 would make judgement of the glory hunters much more convenient, there would be no arguing etc.

I have a confession to make, I left after the second goal. I didn't think about clapping the team, I justed wanted to escape from the misery of losing two years on the trot.

However thanks to this thread I've seen the errors of my ways. To punish myself I have been flagellating my back with an elephant hide belt and have thought about pouring salt into my unworthy, ungrateful eyeballs.

Is this sufficient penance for my sins or am I being to easy on myself. Could a true fan please let me know what sacrifice I should make to make amends for my hideous misdemeanour?

Thanks awfully, got to go my eyes are bleeding......!

Be it a final or not, are you not a true supporter if you turn up late and keep missing part of the match ( because you've drank too much!)?

Does this reverse theory also count?

Just trying to get into the mindset of the real supporters so maybe I can be one too.

It's easy to be a true supporter, in order to qualify I suggest that you do the following.

Leave home now and start walking all the way to Dover.

Swim across the Channel.

Continue to walk from Calais, through Northern France, Flanders and into Holland. Walk to the Hague. (Guess this should take around 3 - 4 weeks)

Swim across the North Sea up the Humber Estuary to Grimsby.

Walk to Blundell Park in time for our last match.

See very easy isn't it.

In order to prove myself a true fan I had Southend United LDV trophy winners 2004 tatooed on my chest. The 4 has been crossed through and a 5 added, which is to be crossed through this afternoon and League 2 champions added.

Although the above is of course twaddle I do have the club crest on my left tit and it was done before they changed to the current one. Ho hum.

I don't think your a disgrace did you leave before the game ended? no so if you read my earlier post I was talking about people leaving before the game ended! so infact you are nothing to do with what I am talking about!

i dont recall their being 6,000 southend fans at carlisle or darlington i infact recall only 170 max on both occassions.

I don't question the commitment of anyone who spent their hard-earned money in Cardiff yesterday, I just personally think its a very poor show to desert the players when they would have been presumably at their lowest. We left after the Southend team got their medals but were out of the ground by the time Wrexham lifted the cup and were back home safely by 9pm.

The players gave up too easily after wrexhams 1st goal. We should of went for broke the last 15 mins but we didnt!

when Wrexham scored the second goal people started to get up and leave!
what a total lack of respect for the players who worked there socks off today Barret especialy! and how hard they worked to get to the final!
so to all those that left call yourself supporters? f**king joke!

p.s Matt the shrimp cheers for the text

My Dad left shortly after the 2nd goal because he had to go straight to work and with extra time, was already pushing it.

Obviously he's 'a f**king joke'

...no if you bother to read the posts you would have known that I am talking about the people who left because we went 2-0 down!

Totally agree with you there mate. Definitely one of the more sensible posts in this thread.

Personally i was slightly disappointed with the number of people that left. Obviously each ticket purchasing individual has the right to leave when they want, and cardiff can be a nightmare to get out of, as i found out last year, but i would've hoped that more people would've stayed for the presentation. There wasn't a huge deal in the match, but i thought Wrexham edged it and i wanted to show them respect they deserved by staying to applaud them, as well as our players.

And secondly, when then second goal went in there was still about 5 mins left iirc. Plenty of time to get back into it. I just thought it sent out the wrong message.
