I don't think we were outsung for much of the game although there were times when you could hear a pin drop. Most of the time though, the singing was sustained by "En-ger-land, En-ger-land" and "You're going down" that I found quite disappointing, especially as that kind of calling cannot be seen as the fans getting behind their team but simply being unsporting. I don't find it a matter to be pleased about that another team has serious financial difficulties or that they are in such a bad position in their league. "Stand up if you love Southend" did not happen nearly as much as it should have done, I'm afraid

Quote[/b] (Guest @ April 11 2005,01:15)]I was determined to stay until the end to clap the lads off because they were all heroes today. A chap walked past when we were clapping and said to us "Why are you clapping that @h~t?"

It wasn't impressive. That is the same @h~t that has got through five games to get there and is currently second in the league. I can understand people leaving after the final whistle for reasons specified earlier in the thread, but this really wound me up.

And don't get me started on those that cheered when Gower's name was called to be substituted. Fair enough, he had a poor game, but had it not been for his goal we wouldn't even have been there today.

Great weekend in Cardiff, next year we will finally win it.
Jai, totally agree. As you know, the guy that walked past me and gave some abuse was an idiot. Like many of the fans there today.
Gower was poor, yes. But don't cheer when he's substituted. What's that gonna do for his confidence going into the most important 5 games for 14 years?
Also, i was gutted and hurt and shocked and almost cried after the second goal, but i stayed. I felt the players deserved an applause at the final whistle, just for their efforts this season in the competition. I can't understand people that leave early, never will, especially in a Cup Final.

I disagree. At the end, of course the Wrexham fans were louder. But in normal time I thought we were much louder. From the 20th to the 90th minute we were the better side and the fans were really getting behind the team well. I was in the Shrimpers Trust block and there was a great atmosphere. Overall we were slightly louder. Wrexham fans were good aswell, though, they seem a nice bunch and when they were singing that Welsh song at the end it was amazing.

Yes it did! It was the most popular chant. You can't expect fans to stand up all game, we do have other chants.

We certainly sung it more than Wrexham sung 'Stand up if you love Wrexham'.

we were outsung and if you watch the game on video this will prove it. same as last year when before the game everyone wants as many sufc fans there as possible but then is surprised when the atmosphere is crap because the glory hunters dont sing, complain at people like me getting excited and standing up, taking photos of each other when we have a corner, spending the game having a laugh with their poxy fog horns etc..

personally, i felt it was necessary to stay and clap the players at the end. we are on a promtion chasing end to the season to and i didn't want them to think my support wasn't there for them. there efforts deserved a clap, it just wasn't to be.

Big f**king deal!! I couldn't give a monkeys what you did. I left after the second goal because f**ked if I was going to watch Wrexham lift the cup after that shameful and scandalous exhibition of refereeing and linesmanship.

That w***er on the right-hand side never made one decision without waiting for the ref to indicate first. How can a corner be given when the ball bounces of the stomach of a attacking player not more than 3 yards from the linesman and straight in line with him?

That cost us the first goal. It was as bad during the entire game. This was supposed to be a cup final but the standard of officialdom reduced it to Sunday League level.

Last year, Southend fans stayed to the death and gave Blackpool the respect they deserved, they beat us fair and square, Wrexham had more than a little help from the officials, Tilson can't say it, the lads who I thought played their socks off can't say it but fans who sat and watched it bloody well can say it, WE WAS ROBBED.

And for what its worth, the lads can all hold their heads high after yesterdays performance, without exception, heros one and all. After all they had it all to do, 11 verses 13, hardly fair.

Oh, and Hockley Blue, shout a little louder if you want to gain peoples attention, next time try standing up as well, if you have the balls for it.

I left as soon as Wrexham had scored their second, mainly because i was parked in a car-park full of Wrexham fans and wanted to get out of there as quick as possible!

People cannot call it a disgrace why people left early. Cardiff is a long way from Essex. I'm a loyal supporter, but who wanted to stay and see the taff's celebrate, not me!!

Another reason why we left was plain and simple, i couldn't see us getting 2 goals to tie the match up.

Barrett was superb yesterday, Gower was shocking and was one of the worst games i've ever seen him play!

Superb to see lots of fans out in force though, and at Membury services going up there! It was so good to see!

Didn't get back till 22:20, so much traffic on M4 etc, plus stopped for about 40 minutes at Membury services coming back.

At the end of the day, we didn't have the final killer touch to score a goal, no matter how hard we tried!

UP THE BLUES!!

Sitting in M11, which was right next to the partition between us and Wrexham, we were definitely louder. However, it seemed to be difficult to get a song going around all three sides although the Trust block looked to be doing its best to get things going.

Problem was 12,000 "day trippers" mixed in with the 6,000 regulars. Being spread over three tiers didn't help as did not scoring

We should got an Pens, when Gower got tripped over by Wrexham defencer after 66 mins as the TV replay showen its was an Pens. Some of the Wrexham players dive like if they was shot - I suppose they are prasticing their "Dive their way down to League 2" - Cheat won this game, but they won't win their relegation battle - 8 points behind is 2 much for anyone to get out & 2 more defeat for Wrexham see them down.

As an season ticket holder in last 4 season, I did walk out after the 2nd goals - its too painful to for me to sit and watch Wrexham lift the Cup than due to their cheating (their spainsh player fell down easliy near the end say it all) & referee ****-up (Gower pens & Wrexham goals from corner which it not), some of the fans had to leave to beat the traffic & catch the train home. To be fair, we got behind the team best we can but its not enough.

Let stuff the Orient on friday!

The officials, and linesman in particular, were very poor.  Having seen brief highlights:

- the corner that led to the first goal never was;
- Ugarte could have very easily ben sent off before his goal.  Two theatrical and blatant dives plus he tried to punch the ball into the net following it hitting the cross bar;
- Gower's penalty claim was certainly not outrageous, he had his standing foot taken away from him.

How about next time there are chants of "Southend till I die" the "get away drivers" sing "Southend until the second goal goes in".
biggrin.gif

If the players did not applaud the fans at the end of the game, they would have been slated and quite rightly. So what is the difference when the "so called" supporters do not stay - it was only another 5 minutes

How are Macclesfield going to get 20,000 Blues fans in their ground
biggrin.gif

I was one of the people leaving earlier and there was two reasons for this -
1) Could not stomach watching someone else lift the trophy as I did last year and,
2) The amount of time it was going to take back, thought I would take the opprtunity to get a head start

I wish people would stop f*ing moaning about this - as someone else said - we are entitled to leave when WE WANT! Also, at least we paid in excess of £100 for the tickets...

Honestly, when we lose this forum turns into some sort of moan off about every little thing!!!!

You did not have to stay and watch someone elselift the Trohy, just applaud our players.

And to many of the others in our end - SUFC players had the blue shirts on !!

A couple of things...

1 - the corner was awarded because the ball clearly came of Prior's heel. The TV coverage showed that.

2 - He didn't do a very good job of trying to punch the ball in especially as he headed it.

3 - If I'd have been reffing then I'd have given the penalty when Gower's foot was taken.

The Late One:

Does it matter? OK, I did not applaud them at the end but at least I made the effort (and financial saccrifice) to get there for the second year in a row.

I go to nearly every home match possible, buy shirts, and pretty much do my bit (I think anyway) so feel entitled to leave 5 mins early without being moaned at!!!!!

Quite right.

The players deserved the applause.

We have got to two major finals in two years & are on the brink of promotion.
They do not deserve to be slagged off or treated like that. Do you not think that they realise that they let the fans down.
The least people could of done was stay & applaud our players receiving their Medals.

I'm sure that if we had won all the excuses about car parking, trains etc and leaving early would not come into it.

I can't understand why anyone would walk out of a game which they've paid to see. Maybe they reckon they will get away from the ground quicker but there can't be that much in it. Anyway they can't be proper Southend fans, just glory supporters.
