SMS Bailey, Clarke and Francis on the list

I don't understand that attitude at all. Surely you support the club and not the players?

I think his point was there will be no need for a season ticket at this rate and you'll be able to turn up at 2.59 pay and sit where you want. I haven't trawled through all the pages as I'm sitting on a train but I have the general direction and I'm wholeheartedly behind the stance Uncle Ron is taking. From day one he has promised to run the club as a viable ongoing concern (leaving aside the debts) and this echoes that stance. If only more Chairman were like him. The money WILL come when at FF. i would much rather have a solvent club in the lower reaches than a near bankrupt club AGAIN in the second tier. once was painful enough.

The simple fact here is Ron is acting with a business mind set, he views players as third party suppliers and as such wants to tie them in to fit with his view of the business plan that is Southend United, if the suppliers don't want to buy in, his approach is to find those who will.

This is just a hard nosed business approach from Ron, they are under contract and as such have a market value to the business.

I know the word football and all the passion and romance that word brings to us, the fans, is missing from above and thats because it plays no part in Ron's approach, it is just a business decision simple as that !

If it's the right one only time will tell.

Do you think Tilly has said that if they don't sign then place them on the transfer list, or is Ron got the hump with agents and this is him saying "enough is enough"?
You can make a case for Francis & Clarke being told they can leave as they are entering the last year of their contract, but Bailey?! He has 2 years remaining!! Do the club not think that if we are in the top 2 come Christmas that they wouldn't sign? Even if they rejected a new contract at that time, then get rid of them in January. To do so now achieves nothing other than alienating 3 very good players from the club.
Ron Martin may well take plaudits for his stance on this matter, but taking the morale high ground won't take our club to where we want to be.
I'm just asking the question here: Is our Chairman going to fall short on his own visions and ambitions for Southend United Football Club because of a one man crusade against agents?

I would bet Tilly had no say in this at all. Ron's the money man.

Agree with you about Bailey but he's not committed to the club and if he's turned down a contract offer then what motivation will he have next year? He's just after his next pay-day. If we sold Francis and Clarke in January we'd get peanuts as it would effectively be a fire sale and we'd have to find replacements at a time when most clubs want to keep hold of their players - wouldn't work.

It's not a one-man stance against agents, its Ron acting in the best interests of SUFC which is his job as a director. We're lucky to have such a strong-minded Chairman.

I first read this story on teletext this afternoon. I couldn't believe my eyes!!

Not so fussed about Francis, but Clarke and Bailey shouldn't be listed.

Our two best players from last season. Where's the ambition gone?

We'll have to sign an entire squad at this rate.

Something is not right at the Hall! RM in my eyes needs money fast, and selling our two best players will bring in the much needed revenue he requires.

Money must be so tight.

I just hope Tilson has a few tricks up his sleeve to replace Bailey and Clarke.

I've slated Tilson in the past, and to get in the play offs he done a good job. But if a club with more money and bigger ambition come calling, who could blame him for jumping ship.

I'm hacked off with what is going on.

This could all go horribly wrong.

Spose we just have to trust Tilson in getting the right players in, and quick.

Time moves on, but this whole charade has left a sour taste in my mouth.

Wasn't there a rumour going round last season about RM & the club's finances being under investigation by the Police etc, and the club was close going into administration?

Something doesn't ring true? Surely Bailey is happy at Roots Hall, i cannot see how he can be so greedy in his contract demands?

Lets all calm down here. They have not gone yet. I think half of this is a scare tactic by Ron. Half of you are blaming Ron, half the players. We do not know what actaully has happened here. Maybe the players and their agents are being greedy - so ron is doing the right thing. I personally do not want to go back to the old days of paying over the top wages for below standard players and end up nearly in administration again. One of the reasons we have one of the healthiest accounts in the football leagues and can afford to build a new fantastic stadium and be succesful at the moment is because Ron has a tight grip on the finances. He knows what he is doing. I trust him. I have no other reason to think otherwise. Has he not built this club up from the ashes that were left behind by Jobson? Has not put his money where his mouth is before? He has never let me down as a fan and i for one fully support him in this decision and other tough ones to come. But this is just based on what i know so far and what history has taught me.

However if it is to balance the books etc then it may change. I would like to know all the facts until fingers are pointed. And if these three do move on, thanks for everything lads.

You like nothing more than a good conspiracy theory do you? Particularly when you have nothing to back it up. Remember James Walker?

I suggest people calm down a bit and let's see what the coming weeks bring.

How much money is Ron Martin giving for transfers this summer, coz we are going to need it!!!

1.5 million, 2 million?

His agent wants him to have more, he's the greedy one!!!

Nicky Bailey has been a key figure in the centre of midfield and to lose him because his agent wants him to have more would be wrong. Peter Clarke is one supurb centre back and we would miss him if he went as well.

Lets hope that Tilly and Brush are busy this summer in the transfer window.

He does rather have a point about being player of the year and top scorer particularly as his goalscoring isn't the most impressive part of his game.

That article says "come and get me" to me. Well, not to me, because I'm not a football club...

Agreed, and "I'm not really a troublemaker who would be disruptive and want to move on after just one season from YOUR club. Please sign me."

With the greatest respect to the lad, when it came to the big games in the play offs, he bottled it and was s***e and a lot of the clubs who are reportedly after him will have watched his inept performances in those two games and i think will not put in offers because you cant afford to have players that dont turn up when it matters

Spot on there. If he was "that" good of a player then he wouldn't have bottled it when it really counted and I'm sure that any club that actually could meet his wage demand would have noted that. He really has messed it all up IMO.

Agreed, that says to me as an outsider all the wrong things. For me he is making his excuses over why he has had to be sold to butter you lot up when in reality hes a greedy bar steward

Super Shrimper, not having a personal pop at you but don't you think his agent employed by HIM could be told to stop being daft. At the end of the day the player has the final say mate sadly. I have known to well over the last few years there is little loyalty left anymore

I'm sorry, but a lot of that is b*llocks.

"Me rejecting the contract is out of ambition, not money". No Nicky, It's not. If it was about playing at the highest level, you would've came out ages ago and said that. Instead, you've continously rejected contracts that we've offered and the reason we put you on the transfer list is because you and your agent want more than double your current pay... Not because you want to play at a higher level.

I won't hold any grudges, but I can't see Bailey being here next season now.... It does seem that he's been ****ed off by Rons reaction and he may feel a little betrayed by the action, but it's no more betrayed than Ron, Tilly, The club and the fans feel when this kind of story comes out. To me, Bailey is more like Guttridge now.

I'm still 100% supporting RM in this... If they don't like the money on offer, which is considerable, then f*ck off. If you don't want to be here, we don't want you here.
