Echo News Shrimpers unlikely to complete deal for midfielder Pedder

We have improved in the players we’ve brought in though

Gubbins > Lomas
Walker > Powell
Wind > Demetriou

IMO they are all improvements with possible high re sell value … granted we still need a few more but to say we are not improving is a very poor and lazy observation

Agree, it is not quantity, it is the quality.

I only saw Lomas play once, before his ridiculously long injury. Gubbins will definitely be an upgrade just by being fit!

Powell was good to have on our side, energetic and a proper pain in the a*** for any defender, but combination of injury and sustained improvement proved to be a problem. Walker is definitely an upgrade.

Demi - at the end of a long career, and transitioning to his coaching role. Could still do a job for us with all that experience, but, Like John White before him, it is time to step away and let the new generation step in. Vind looked good at Chelmsford, may need support and time to transition to this level, and is a very good prospect for the future.

The one person we need to replace quickly with a quality upgrade is Wes Fongook. On paper Pedder's profile fits, but at 22 with so few senior level games and high risk of long term injury, I have no doubts that us walking away from a deal is the right way to go. We have a lot of examples of long term injured on high wages over the years, and that is one (of very many) issues we need to change. We cannot afford a sick note culture! On this basis, I am sure a lot of work is ongoing behind the scenes, and the EFL transfer window is still open for a while - L2 players will often come down if the deal is right, so no need to panic.

If we get to January and we are mid table and we have not signed anyone, that might be a problem. We are light years from that situation!
