Doing well - Bim Pepple has 10 goals for Southend United so far this season (Image: Lucy Copsey)

By Chris Phillips@cjphillips1982Chief sports reporter

SOUTHEND United boss Kevin Maher says he will continue to address Bim Pepple's future.

Pepple scored twice in Blues' 4-0 Boxing Day win against Ebbsfleet United to take his tally to 10 goals in 21 appearances this season.

However, it is not a foregone conclusion Pepple will be with the Shrimpers for the second half of the campaign.

When asked about the striker's future, Maher said: "Luton were here watching today.

"It's something we'll address as we go."

Pepple has a year left on his contract with Luton who also have the option of an additional 12 months.

Bim was the subject of our conversation over breakfast, and we collectively think that he will return to Luton earlier than the original loan completion..........unless Luton decide that his development as a player would benefit more from remaining with us than returning to Luton, or going out on loan again. He is settled in the squad, he improves more each game, and it's obvious that he is learning from, and reacting to the Amigos coaching. I can't see us being able to afford him permanently. There again I couldn't see us getting Lopata permanently, so what do I know.

This is always the danger when we have loan on board they get recalled by their parent club.In the last game both Pim and Golding were outstanding and unfortunately they aren't our players thankfully Charley is

As I said on another post, ‘ It’s only a saying’ Calm Down. Just get them in! Thanks.
Either way, you're advocating a potential overspend. The squad is a collective that is greater than the sum of its parts. No one player is bigger than the club.

Financial mismanagement is what will lead to us staying in this league longer. The plan has to be to be financially stable so that we can afford these players.

But we can only sign him if Luton will sell, which they obviously don't want to do.

10 goals in less than half a season with a chance for more in another couple of games, maybe. A great return and if they recall him, he'll have my thanks. But we move on.

I expect a loan to a L2/1 club. Best way for them to test their asset. And if a l1 team wanted him would be much more then we can offer.
