Oddly enough, nothing really changes for the Bury Game, we just have to win;
If we had got a draw today, and been in the final play off spot, then we would still have had to win against bury to guarantee it, or make it impossible for others to catch us.
The only difference is Millwall have to drop points. But we still have to win it.

That's a pretty big difference, it's out of our hands and I can't see Millwall messing up a third time, Bristol Rovers threw away their playoff hopes today and now have nothing to play for, obviously that didn't stop Oxford but their motivation is going to be low.

It was like they weren't interested. Can't understand it. Hope we don't go up we'd get about 2 points. Heard on the grapevine Leonard is definitely leaving in the summer too - great.

I thought someone already confirmed that Leonard is under contract next season, so if that is the case, I'm not sure how he can definitely be gone

Bored of the negativity...7th in league 1 is great from where we were a few years ago. We have excitement to last day of the season and then go again next year.

Bristol away will be tough for Millwall....so not all over yet...

All this bottle jobs stuff really gets on my tits.

Great support, team let us down massively again. No one deserves any credit apart from the keeper. We couldnt pass water today and actually tackled each other on at least 4 occasions which was embarrassing. Maybe should have had a penalty or even 2, but in all honesty we were beaten by the better team. To say we gave thrown it away in recent weeks is an understatement. Desperately disapointing day and long quiet journey home!

Did you go to the game? We 100% bottled it today.

I'm guessing most of these negative posters weren't allowed to go to the game as it meant getting home after their bedtime.

Wonder what Ron Martin's thoughts are tonight having subsidised transport & tickets...?
Probably "why do I bother" ? Think it has happened before in the past - susidised travel , big away following, and lose!
Morcambe comes to mind and was it also a Wycombe game we lost when travel was free?

The team have massively underperformed having over performed to give themselves a great chance of doing something. 4 defeats out of our last 5 is criminal. The lack of effort has been hard to stomach.

The team and management have asked the fans to get behind the team. We have done our part.

With Plymouth doncaster pompey wigan and looking like Blackburn entering the fray next season it will be hard to be anywhere near top 6. That's not including the 3 players off runners up.

We have about 5 or 6 players that shouldn't even be at the club and will need to be moved on.

We also need to sign a decent goalkeeper and wingers that can actually beat a man and deliver.

Is that the same bristol rovers who got rolled over by a distinctly average posh?

What an absolute shambles out there today

i am not too sure what they practise during the week but they must have used the rugby posts this week

Hoof ball from the first minute to the last and no leadership on the pitch or off it to realise that it was not working (and never would as Ranger was well marshalled today)

We simply had no tactics and once again the players were not up for the fight

Another frustrating thing is our corners. They are awful. Why do we persist with these loopy out swinging corners. Shrewsbury whipped one in and funny enough scored. Does make u wonder what they practice on the training ground!

as pointed out in post 15 even if we had won today millwall would only have been two points behind us. we would therefore still have needed them to drop points

Not sure how that works out, unless you've already given up hope of us getting anything against Bury. If we'd won today we wouldn't have needed Millwall to drop points so long as we beat Bury.

Just got home.

Pretty bad performance all round and in particular the first half was dreadful. We applied a lot of pressure in the second but never really opened up and threatened a strong Shrewsbury defence. Fair play to Shrewsbury, they battled and worked extremely hard.

Can't really complain too much about the effort from the team, it's just there are clearly too many people carrying knocks or who are tired. Our bad start to the season has meant we've put so much into the games and not really been able to effectively rotate the squad. Plus our lack of cover at CB and LB has left us limited in the past few weeks.

Fair play to the large southend crowd who worked hard in the first half to get an atmostphere going and it was rocking at times. But the sun eventually wore us down in the second half and the goal killed things off.

Individual scores:

Walton - 7/10 - very assured, but will maybe be disappointed with the goal (hard to see though)
Demitriou - 7/10 - pick of the defence, battled and tackled hard and supported well going forward. Will have nightmares about scuffing a weak shot into the keeper at the death, if it'd fallen to a striker it would have been a goal
Ferdinand - 6/10 - shattered, but generally solid
Thompson - 6/10 - generally solid, always looked to attack at our set pieces but was ineffective
White - 5/10 - poor and slow. Gains a point for a good piece of chasing to retrieve a ball and win a throw, but loses a point for a dreadful clearance of one of our own shots!
McLaughlin - 5/10 - very very quiet and rightfully subbed
Leonard 5/10 - not his day, unusually dodgy in defense and nothing really worked when he was on the ball
Timlin 5/10 - as per Leonard, worried he's lost his ability to really command the midfield and set up attacks
Atkinson 5/10 - not great really
Cox - 5/10 - very quiet and the game mostly flew over his head
Ranger - 6/10 - slow start but got into the game and battled hard.

Subs - all seemed like the correct/sensible option, but none really had a great impact - 6/10 all round
