I don't know....it's don't sit well, but he has to prove reform...

I don't know what sentance he will get, he is 25 so was he 23 when this happened? One of the other lads is 18, so they were 15/16 at the time, will this look like a grooming, leadership thing as he older than them?

Maybe the judge has seen this video...it's very funny.

C for me. If other clubs are going to give chances to players who through their, shall we say, indescretions, have taken peoples lives, then when the offence was comitted prior to joining us, he is showing remorse and making progress on and more importantly off the pitch, then why shouldn't the club show support to him.

Yes, I would reconsider my position if any further incedents came to light and definitely if any came to light whilst being attached to SUFC. But if being here is an encouragment for him to carry on reforming and it makes him a better person, then I am happy for SUFC to be a tool in that journey.

I certainly wouldn't hang him out to dry, like Chris Dunlavy has on several times since we signed him, in his column in The Football League Paper. If found guilty though, I would like to see him face to face with the victim of this crime, as there are schemes that are like this, so he can see the effect of his actions on an individual.

Put things in context.

Crime isnt just crime. Personally im really against crimes against the vulnerable. Its dispicable to target the weak of mind or body.

Should it matter whether he was our player at the time? No it shouldnt.

If i do anything wrong to get a criminal record then my job is gone and my career is gone. Im of sound character anyway but it does act as a deterrent. What has deterred Nile from being on the wrong side of the law on numerous occassions? Certainly not the threat of losing his job as this has happened several times and yet here we are.

People liken Timlins crime to Niles. Timlin tried to get away with a motoring offence and didnt. Did he cause distres to the general public? No but was jailed.

For me Niles involvement however small against someone vulnerable should be met with a sentence.

So putting things into context....

The crime was committed nearly 2 years ago. When Southend United employed Nile they knew he had a criminal past and various other misdemeanours including walking out on Blackpool. We may not have known about this particular crime but it is not a complete shock and a known risk.

Since joining Southend he has behaved professionally and looks to be turning his life around.

Nile has pleaded guilty and will be punished by the courts in accordance with the laws of this country. What is to be gained by punishing him further and terminating his contract? He is currently in gainful employment and contributing to society by way of taxes and the like. If Southend sack him he will struggle to find alternative employment and lose his current support group. Without an income he will be reliant on state support and in a position where he is more likely to re-offend.

Our justice system is not just about punishment but also rehabilitation. The courts will provide the punishment and SUFC are currently providing the rehabilitation.

State support ?.....reckon he has a few quid saved or he will have to get a job like most people have to.

I guarantee if Nile was playing at another club then your view would be different.

That will be why he conned someone out of £2000 them.

Let them eat cake.

A few quid saved? He spent more than a year at Blackpool having the entirety of his salary (which was minimum wage excluding appearance bonuses) fined from him for being AWOL.

You are completely and totally wrong. My views about justice and rehabilitation apply to everyone, I am only commenting on them in regards to Nile Ranger as he is a Southend United player.

The comment about state support was that if sacked by Southend United with a criminal record and no training outside of football he will struggle to find alternative employment. He may of course be able to get a job but ultimately if he did not he would be reliant on state support

It appears from various CP comments that Ranger can't play on Saturday. That sounds like FA ban or custody to me.
If he has done something outside of the 90 minutes which means he is unavailable for selection, that's sounds like grounds for breach of contract and dismissal. The club will make that decision when they get the full facts
