As for this comment above - it just sums up for me how precious some people are. There are people dying, people losing jobs and wars happening....if a few broken seats upset you this much, maybe try and get some perspective of life, it's not the end of the world.

So much this ^^^

Last time I post on this ridiculous thread (hopefully), some people overreact in such a crazy way it actually makes me cringe at people who think they live in such a peaceful world. YES breaking chairs is ridiculous if deliberate but does it warrant some of the comments on here!!!!

Heaven forbid these people ever went to another higher profile Derby match, I personally think that our supporters are very well behaved imho

What he said.

Surely that's the entire point of this thread? They were dark days for football and why some hanker back to them is beyond me.

You're comparing 60-odd broken seats to full scale riots? The days of terrace wars, pitch invasions etc etc are long gone and will never return. We're talking about a few chairs here mate. Not the end of the world at all.

And if Orient smashed up the north bank, I'm sure my world wouldn't grind to a halt. I'd probably just get on with my life

Christ, I'm not that bothered, I didn't lose any sleep over it. Maybe my original comments were a little OTT. We could do without the financial implications of having to refit the North however - we can barely pay the bills as it is!

So breaking 60 odd seats is ok then?

I never said that, im just pointing out to Mk, that a few broken seats is country miles away from the old days.

My personal opinion is I wouldn't break a seat on purpose, but if someone near me did, I honestly wouldn't care too much & would probably forget about it within 3 minutes. Is that because I'm not a real fan? Is it because I'm scum? No it's because I've got other things to take up my time, like a football match in front of me.

Let me ask you DWB, and this goes for anyone else, IF these seats were being broke on purpose, by a group of young lads, and you were sitting near-by, would you intervene or tell the to stop? Or would you all wait til you got home to moan and chastise about it on an Internet forum? genuine question....

If I had been there and anyone was breaking seats, I would have said something. There is never any need or point in wanton destruction of any property. If these seats were broken on purpose, I wouldn't put it past the same people to not think twice about scratching cars with Orient stickers in.

My friend had her window smashed when we visited Scarborough for an away game many years ago because she had a Southend sticker in the window. Disgusting behaviour and definitely in line with smashing seats up. It is all criminal damage

Whilst I agree that is totally wrong, i've gotta say I'd never leave any colours on display in my car, for that exact reason. No-one deserves it, but the simple thing to do is remove the item from display

Was they seats could have fooled me .Tiny old wooden things that you could not sit on .And the back of my seat was already broken . Hence I stood for the entire match as most did .

Agreed bloke. That was the first thing done when we parked at away games in the past. It is a cowardly thing to do, smashing property when no-one is around.

To me, the seat smashing is wrong ----- if anyone is as cuddly as me I could see seats breaking but wanton destruction is just childish and stupid and could encourage retaliation on our fine seats at RH.

Fair point and to answer, probably not but then I'm not going to risk a broken nose or worse over a seat. However, it doesn't take away the fact that it is criminal damage and reflects badly on the club. I think that is why so many of us are a bit pi**ed off to be honest.

Years ago this kind of behaviour would not have happened. It's a sign of the times that here we are debating an issue that, in those days would have been unthinkable and unacceptable, to the situation we now find ourselves in whereby its considered not unreasonable and, hey it's only a few seat backs!

Well for me there's no excuse; it lets the Club down and us the loyal supporters who took time out to support their beloved SUFC.
I saw at first hand some of what went on : how hard they were (not!) and how confrontation fuelled by too many lagers gave them the balls and nerve to perform their antics.
Come on guys; grow up and enjoy: it's not about being physical and showing how hard you are: WE ARE SUFC! Show the others the true level of support we provide.
UTB!

This post has had more responses than any recent football topics, mainly fuelled by people acting as though it's a perfect world.

Get a grip people, it's a few broken seats. I bet ifthere even was 60 broken seats, that half were already broken. My initial seat was broken when I sat down, the seats in another row were not much better.

Yeah a few possibly broke under the celebrations due to being in weak state, yeah a few people probably acted fools and broke some more - but for my money, I bet Orient counted every broken chair in that health hazard of a stand and included them in the total figure.

As a few posters already said, no seats were thrown, no-one was hurt or assaulted so come on lets put 'Seatgate' to bed

Drunk 'fans' at the Darts tonight shouting, booing, standing on tables and chairs - no doubt some damage to glasses, chairs, tables, tableclothes is that a disgrace too????

Yeah, I'd say so, the worst excesses often bring out the worst behaviour, both in darts and football. You don't seem to get it in rugby supporting crowds, and in cricket it's nothing like as bad!

If it was your tables and chairs would you be so blase? I guess it's ok because it's someone else's problem eh?

Just bumped into a guy at work who supports Southend and I jokingly said to him 'It wasn't you smashing the seats up at Orient the other night was it'. His reply was 'No, but a guy about 10 rows back was smashing them up'. Not through joy of us scoring, but blatantly smashing chairs up for the fun of it.

No excuse for it and I am ashamed to have that vandal as a Southend fan.

Love how its mostly the lefty wet lettuces on here that are crying and moaning

Football use to be a mans sport now we have queens like MK running around crying over chairs!!!!

Nice fishing. You look over the thread it's only the same old faces that think it's ok to damage other people's property. You and the rest of your gang are in a minority. Perhaps it's time you reconsidered your position as fan's spokesman when most of us think you're condoning (probable) vandalism?

And would YOU laugh it off if someone slashed the seats of your new business?
