Breaking News Scott Spencer to sign

I've got a feeling that the Barney money will help keep the club afloat as it would not be a surprise if the players wages or bonus wasn't paid in time sometime this year.
The desperate measure to get some season ticket sales for next season must tell you that we are still in deep doo doo, despite any spin to say otherwise.

I know, I was jesting. Spencer sounds like a good signing, but it doesn't fix our problem of having very little creativity in our squad

i'm sure we've invested accordingly in case this happens to cover our backside!

We hire some scousers to go round Gerrard's, Lampard's and Rooney's houses.

Ron Martin does deliver ..... he said last June that we will make a permanent signing!

Commence "We hate Ron Martin" comments.

I hope we can get him signed up.

What I've read and heard about him is all positive. IF he signs, its a contract till the end of the season so if it doesn't work out we can release him in the summer, but if he does well we can get him signed up early doors.

I don't think he will be the last forward we sign this month though.

All we need now is to sign a central midfielder who can pass it forward accurately to create chances and perhaps we might have a decent run in the second half of the season!

Where would we get one of those from?

We have a decent targetman on our books, don't we? Someone who also adds a fair bit to the team spirit and never-say-die attitude that Tilly likes in his teams. Oh, I forgot - we can't play him anymore because someone put their big foot in it. You know - the player still under contract who we shipped out, not because of the fact that his wages were quite high and we had money problems (because the club doesn't have and never had any money problems) but because he was apparently no good and we needed to tell everyone he was bad so that we could increase his selling price. Remember the one?

Shame some of our fans/the board (delete as applicable) don't recognise some of our strikers' contributions as part of what they do overall for the team unless they are banging in a goal every two or three games.

Now, if we had 11 Freddy Eastwoods or Stan Collymores, what an exciting team that would be.

Sighs..

There's no 'apparently' about it, 100% committed but 99.9% sh*te at finding the back of the net.

Hence Swindon sending him back............

Explain? If you're referring to the first post on this thread the "apparently" was about Spencer whilst it's Morrison who's going back to Swindon.

I got lucky with my timing as I genuinly had no idea the players not being paid would be in the Echo the next day.

Indeed.

I think we will be in a worse position if England don't win the World Cup because we would have already spent a chunk of next years revenues.

We have a decent targetman on our books, don't we? ..

erm.... NO. We dont have a decent or even an average one!

Revell is a poor footballer. Woefull first touch, control and can't pass the ball. Doesnt actually win many headers or hold the ball up very well. Everything you would want from a target man.

Thats without even mentioning his goalscoring ability.

Ricky Duncan made a comment at his Q&A that the biggest fallout for young pros is at the age of 19-20 when they tend to lose their way (women, motivation, pressure). Hopefully he can regain his form as a younster away from the pressure cooker of a premier academy.

Hence the GH Academy that is now formed as Glenn Hoddle believes 18 is too young to tell whether a player is good enough to make it or not. Good luck Scotty Spencer.

Tilly has a cracking record with strikers, which is why I think people should have a little faith here. The ones who he has signed who have not worked out have invariably been targetmen (Paynter, Ricketts, Harrold, Revs) and frankly the best targetman in England over the past decade (Emile Heskey) has been mocked by fans wherever he has gone which suggests that that type of player will never be appreciated for a lot of supporters.

James Walker and Richie Foran aside, every other non-targetman forward that Tilly has signed permanently has been a decent player. Charlie MacDonald and Gary Hooper didn't work out here but have shown elsewhere that they can play at this level, and the same may end up being the case with Walker.

Foran was a shocker though.
