Sale of Southend United to Justin Rees and his consortium

I was sort of wondering about that a day or so ago and of course the answer has to revolve around Roots hall and or how much the consortium expects RM to contribute in hard cash terms

If I am right it’s not an increase( £1 is the cost of his shares) that RM was probably ever going to accept ,the offer if that’s the right word maybe is more rent, bigger purchase price less money to flow back.

Within the next 10 days nothing is going to be resolved around FF .

I know some think the fact that planning to build houses as part of the project on that site means there is probability that revised planning for a residential development will likewise be agreed and of course it might

SCC planners will be mindful of National Planning Policy around the Green Belt they will know that pressure groups could ask for a new application to be called as could the Sec of State without being prompted and it doesn’t matter what the local planners, etc have said, hinted at or promised they would have absolutely no powers to go their own way and that’s why I very much doubt that RM will walk away from RH on a nod or a wink !

A few days on from the statement being published far from feeling any more confident it’s exactly the reverse I am now reading that a towel has almost been thrown in

Am I wrong ?

It's all too easy to despair of there ever being a sale and to think that our historic club has only days left in existence.......

All too easy.....

So that's what I've decided too. We're finished (in this guise at least).

Obviously we aren't going to get done by October 4th, but whilst we are putting pressure on Martin to sell, should we not also be looking to put pressure on Rees and the consortium to buy?

I mean, no-one knows what the offers made actually are and we don't know how far apart the sides are here... one would think not that far otherwise an offer probably wouldn't have been made in the first place.
This sale is an emotional issue for us but even if some of the consortium have Southend links this is a business decision for the group. They won't be pressured into anything, nor should they. It's their money and they'll make the decision based on the info they have but most of the posts on here are ignorant about.

I think the buying a house analogies are overused on this thread but one I think is valid. When you buy a house you have a budget but sometimes you get such a good feel about the place that your heart rules your head and you pay a little more. I reckon the best thing we can do is keep making prospective buyers think that we will love them as much as we love the club and they will be very happy here.

<Tin hat and flak jacket mode on>

Playing Devil's Advocate here... is that not the same for Ron Martin? Yet we are pressuring him to take any offer, despite not knowing what the offers are.

I'm not advocating the same sort of pressure as is being applied to Ron, but it takes two to Tango, so they say. I personally don't see anything wrong with highlighting the fanbase and their commitment to the consortium and entering into dialogue, urging them to buy, i.e. look at what you're missing.

On the other hand, if they are purely looking at it from the point of view of a return then maybe the club in it's current form isn't viable. After all, how many clubs are profitable?

Maybe this is all too big an ask for anyone and we need to go into administration in order to come back stronger.

I agree to a point. Ron has certain constraints largely due to the debt he has accumulated and needs to cover. However the big difference is that he has gotten us into this mess and needs to feel the pain. Even administration is abhorrent as on top of the big creditors like HMRC there are likely to be small local businesses and charities that won't get paid for what they have provided in good faith. Whilst due to his financial management he's likely to still be sitting pretty after it all washes out. The bidders owe us nothing but that can't be said for Ron.

Are you the same person who called protesting fans moronic?
No. Protesting is an individual choice and I don't believe it has any benefit in this instance. I accuse certain elements, that have made veiled and sometimes clear threats of physical harm to RM and his family, of being moronic. I also say no fan should tolerate these comments and they should be removed from posts .
The state we are in is deplorable. RM, and others, have much to be ashamed of. I can only dream of new owners and hope they will actually give a toss about the club and not future land possibilities. I still do not accept the personal and frankly disgusting threats. Do you?

Happy to be wrong but tell me why you think I am
I was just referring to your very last point. "It feels like a towel has almost been thrown in. Am I wrong?". That doesn't need a whole lot of explanation. A towel hasn't almost been thrown in as things stand so on that point, you are wrong.

If your "am I wrong?" question was pertaining to your entire post, then that's more difficult to ascertain. Some of it is conjecture. You make fair points about planning considerations for the council, and I'd suggest that your first two paragraphs aren't too far wide of the mark regarding the position on the consortium's "offer".

The future of the Fossetts Farm project as a whole won't be resolved inside 10 days, but I don't think it'll be too long before SUFC's role in it is resolved.

I disagree. HR has a true soft spot for SUFC as do/did many ex West Ham players. In fact I'd prefer HR as he at least knows the game. I couldnt give a flying f**k about any so-called dodgy dealings in the distant past. Good luck to him. I'm ONLY concerned with the continued existence of SUFC
Where did you get that from? He put it in writing what he thought of SUFC in his autobiography.

So if we go in to Administration and get a further 10 point deduction it would appear that relegation is highly likely.

Personally, in order to get rid of that odious piece of **** from our club I would accept that and will definitely buy a new season ticket as long as we are under different ownership regardless of what league we are in.

Hate to even be talking like this, but NLS then I'll be there, Phoenix Club I won't as it just won't be SUFC anymore.

Hopefully the footballing gods are looking down on us and it won't come to either - we can but hope.

Have you taken the Shrimpers Trust survey? That question was asked at the end and it's useful to know how people feel about this.

Sorry but which one ? There at least four versions I think. I have just quickly scanned through "A man walks onto a pitch, "My autobiography", "It shouldn't happen to a manager" and "always managing"

I read nothing bad apart from "he went to a club with a rubbish team" when referring to his friend, Bobby Moore whose managerial reputation has been ruined after his spell at Southend

Ironically enough, I see he is going to be at the Cliffs Pavllion on Thursday 23rd November. "An evening with Harry Redknapp" :Hilarious:

Admin if it gets rid of Martin is worth the hit to finally be able to move on, get out of the embargo and start working our way back up the leagues. Be nice going into a season with optimism and being a league favourite
