RIP Bernard Manning

If you can make people laugh without having a "victim" then you can call someone a legend.

Laurel & Hardy...Eric Morecambe and bringing it up to the present day, Harry Hill are prime examples of this.

Bernard Manning and his ilk hopefully will be quickly consigned to the dustbin of history.

All this "he took the **** out of everyone" stuff doesn't really stand up. He was a self-confessed racist who covered his tracks with all that nonsense. While his jokes may have been funny to some he was a dinosaur, still using words like "****" and "****" which when repeated by his pea-brained audience in general conversation must have caused a lot of people a lot of hurt and offence.

He may have walked his own walk in not changing when the times changed but personally I'm very glad that our kids won't have to listen to his brand of ignorant bigotry in their lifetimes.

Hear, hear. I'm not going to go around celebrating his passing (I'll wait for when Maggie pops her clogs for that), but in no way am I displeased that he won't be able to spread his bigotry under the false name of 'humour' again.

I watched a clip on the six O clock news last night where Bernard Manning when asked why he resorted to racist jokes said " I don't like people who aren't English pretending to be something they're not. If a dog is born in a stable it doesn't make it a horse."

He was a comedian of his age who tapped into substantial pockets of working class unease at immigration. Maybe he was a bigot but he was entitled to his views and they did find an audience. Not everyone is happy about immigration, the decisions are made by politicians who never have to suffer the consequences of their own policies because they're living in the leafy suburbs. Many of the people who liked Bernand Manning were the people who did have to live with the consequences of the changes immigration bought. It isn't politically correct to laugh at people because they're different but it's human nature and it's preferable to another common response which is open hostility and violence.

Plenty of people shared his sentiments and found his brand of humour funny. Plenty didn't find it funny but at least he delivered his viewoint with a bit of humour and not a brick through a window.

See if i care! when i go i can only be called fat, there's no shame in that!
at least i ain't a racist bigot.

He wasn’t a racist bigot he slagged everyone off. Now keep your noise down and pay some respect a man has just died

RIP a Comic Legend

You should be bl**dy ashamed of yourself with that comment! There is absolutely no excuse for his behavior and if you wanna defend him then you are no better than him!

aaaaaah out come the lefty brigade

yyyyyyaawwwwwwnnnnnn now I remembered why I stopped posting on what was once, a funny, down to earth, light hearted football website

I'm not sure you have to be part of a 'lefty brigade' to be against racism?!
I enjoy the spectrum of views on here... I know I don't agree with everyone, but that in a way is the beauty of the place. It would be very dull if everyone was of the same opinion!

I just don't think that Bernard Manning, for all the good things that he may or may not hav done, was someone I need to get upset about. I found him particually offensive!!

I am all for debate , but sometimes I think there is too much mass-debating on here.

I am old , I found his humour funny. I no longer tell jokes as most of my "old" jokes are no longer acceptable. ( I lie, I am just more choosy who I tell them too)

The leftie brigade should be thankful people like Bernard Manning told his type of jokes , without him we would not had the brilliant humour of people like Ben Elton.
