Breaking News Released and retained players

No real surprises. I personally would’ve binned off White too, but I know that’s an unpopular opinion. Any player that is year upon year described by so many as “good backup” should’ve moved on by now. Or just for sheer stupidity of the push that nearly relegated us. Either/or.

Why isn’t Demi the answer?

Because he is naturally right footed. He may be able to do more than stand on his left but I would much prefer a specialist left back that can get to the bye line and sling a left footed cross into the box. If you are naturally right footed then the instinct is to get the ball onto your right foot.

As I’ve pointed out before, JW has played over 30 games in each of the last two seasons. He’s vastly more than a back up player. Phil Brown knew this, Chris Powell knew this and now thankfully Kevin Bond knows this.

There are a lot more reasons that we were nearly relegated than that.

Thought we would keep Coker or Hendrie. Hopefully got a new 1st choice left back lined up. Would like Sam Hart to come back if that was possible. Not sure what his current situation is? Wether it would be financially possible?

Would have thought Michael Turner was on a decent salary, so at least we should have a few quid to offer he's replacement, whoever that turns out to be.
Wish him all the best, we all knew he was past his best this last season, but apart from his senseless sending off in that home game, always thought he gave his all for the team.

Spare a thought for Smith, wasn't that long ago he was a regular first teamer and playing for England at U18/19

Just shows how an injury can wreck a promising career at a young age so maybe people shouldn't be so harsh on Coker for wanting away before he got injured. It's a very short lifespan as a player so to criticise him for wanting to test himself at a higher level is stupid. He's had championship clubs sniffing around over the last 3-4 years so I find some of the comments on here extremely harsh.

the thing is with cokes his last good season will be 3 seasons ago when we next kick off, I doubt those clubs are still sniffing around an over 30yo left back who's played less than 30 games in 2 seasons.

he was a good player for us when we went up but we can get better imho

I’m happy with the list both in terms of who we’ve released and who we’ve opted to extend or offer contracts to.

Coker has been a fantastic player for us over a good few years however with his current injury and supposed wage demands I’m happy to see him go. I don’t think he will be going to a championship side like he hoped but Lincoln could prove a good move for him.

I’m now interested to see the kind of player we begin to be linked with this summer. In recent seasons Brown loved a big name and Powell liked a cripple.

I imagine we will do well in the loan market with KB connections and would expect some players at least to be rumoured from Spurs and Bournemouth, especially given how Eddie Howe spoke of him when he got the interim job.

We desperately need to get some defenders in, but I would also like to see us get some creativity in midfield all be it central or wingers.

It’s a big summer coming up but I’m looking forward to seeing the direction KB takes us

I never said they were, my point was he was very highly sought after but under contract to us, then he broke his leg and then quite quickly got another serious injury.

If we had got a decent transfer fee back then people would have been wishing him well, for some bizarre reason he gets a couple of bad injuries and he's become a target of the keyboard warriors because he wouldn't sign a new deal last year. What's wrong with wanting to better yourself ? Bloke has had some really bad luck and I wish him all the best.

Nothing too surprising in that lot, Ba had improved a lot over last season but obviously not enough to be in contention. I am surprised at Bexon, he'd done well on loan and been very solid whenever I've seen him play. Very sorry for Ted Smith, King John School old boy, family local, and unfortunate to have had serious shoulder injuries to contend with.

Turner, well, even in the twilight of his career, he's been a good servant, and deservedly reached his 500 career milestone in his final game for us.

Delighted for both John White and Sam Barratt - both deserved that extra year.

I am disappointed to lose both Coker and Hendrie. I felt that Hendrie did quite well on his return and to lose both established left backs suggests to me that someone may be incoming already.

In truth, I am really sad to lose Cokes. One of the characters around the club, someone who was always happy to help out with JB stuff, and who was one of those rare footballers, at ease enough to come and sit in the Shrimpers Bar, whilst injured a few years back, meeting fans ahead of matches. There's not many of our boys get away with calling me "babe" in front of my husband. Wish him all the best in the future - except against us, of course.

Hmmm. Not sure I fully buy that as necessary given: (1) the trend for wingers on the “wrong” wing; (2) how rarely a full-back will actually overlap and get to the byline compared to cross from deep; (3) if we will actually want an attacking left-back when everyone gets upset whenever our young right back attacks and we concede more goals down the left; and (4) when we won this division we had a right footed left back in Che Wilson. I’d put it more as nice to have than necessity.

Looking at the youngsters, especially Under 23 side, and the contracted and released list, can anyone shed any light on current position of Dan Walker, Alex Clark, Taylor Curran and Callum Taylor?

The thing is Yorkie that not everyone gets upset when our young right back attacks, in fact his late cross against Sunderland was more than a bit useful. And the thing about opinions is that you don't have to buy into them. I don't get the theory that wrong wingers are trendy, they are not, in my book. All that said, he's still not the answer for me.

Frankly I’ve never thought Demi could defend. Think he could be far more effective as a winger.
He must wake up every day with a huge smile and say how the f*** am I an international footballer.
Good luck to him, you take your opportunity whilst it’s there.

The sad thing for me his how few we’ve been able to release. Interesting to see if we can wheeler-deal a few other out of the door. Can’t imagine they’ll be queued up for Kightly.

Ted only has himself to blame...
