Recruitment

I Keep promising myself not to respond to your posts but I can't resist on this one. If you think we should be smashing 'pub' teams (incredibly disrespectful) how do you suggest this is done when you reckon we should be 'outing' the majority of our squad? You either live in a very simplistic world or you're on a permanent wind up for the rest of us. I'm struggling to decided which one it is.
I’ ll give u 1 guess ?????

SOUTHEND United first team coach Mark Bentley insists the Shrimpers will be scouring the non-league game in pursuit of ‘gems’.

We really shouldn't be looking at trying to find lower league gems to support our squad. It's too risky to take a punt on. We should be looking at loanees from higher positioned clubs. Our position is far too risky to mess around. Based on our current form we will be lucky to stay up. Things need to happen quickly

Bentley's reported remarks would be fine if we were comfortably placed in mid table and had plenty of time to look ahead to next season. Unfortunately, we are not, we are in a relegation dogfight and time is short to turn things round. Results are needed now which means urgent recruitment of the right players to sddress our weaknesses. We were told, or it was implied, that the new management structure would give access to already identified targets who we could easily recruit. Bentley's comments suggest otherwise. I hope I am wrong.

Plus it's likely there are other clubs who have long been scouring off the gems leaving latecomers to pick over their gleanings

And in that time we have already been beaten by Chesterfield and f...ing!! Woking we should be smashing these teams! Ok chesterfield used to be a league club and deserve some respect but not the pub teams!
No one is entitled to anything in professional football. You have to earn respect based on performance. On that basis, it is not surprising that our club got soundly beaten by the likes of Chesterfield and Woking.

I suggest we sack all the s...t!! Players at the club asap especially the john whites, demitriou,Hobson, coulson, seaden, all the youngsters who look well out of there depth! Maybe they will make it but we haven't got the time for them to develop especially in the first team.Bring in loan players for the rest of this season and build next.If done correctly we could have 11 new starters before Christmas.

Have you checked the league table recently and did you go to the match on Saturday ?

I think you will find there are restrictions on the number of loan players allowed so we could be somewhat short of a starting 11.

Whilst we are throwing names about. How about a punt on Shaun Jeffers at St Albans. Already bagged 19 goals this season in the NLS. 29 years old so no spring chicken but certainly lethal in front of goal. Could he make the step up a division again as a No.9 for us, a position he seems to be excelling in this season. More previously used as a winger with less impact. I remember him being held in very high regard in his early days, but for whatever reason never pushed on and proved himself at EFL level. Perhaps a last shot for him to try himself at a higher level?

Toyosi Olusanya at Middlesborough is one I'd like us to try and bring in as well. I happened to watch this guy by chance at a pre-season game for Billericay in the summer. My god he absolutely tore it up. Bagged a hat-trick I think and destroyed defenders with his frightening pace. Exactly what we are missing. Only 24, can operate anywhere in an attacking sense, but probably most suited to a wide role. Must have something about him if Warnock took a punt and took him to Boro. Seems to be an unused sub most weeks for Boro. Might be a stretch to entice him, but worth an ask I think. He looks mustard and a perfect fit for us. One we should of tried for in the summer when at Billericay, but our useless network let us down yet again.
Do you know for sure we didn't try and he told us where to go?

The big difference now in trying to sign players from preseason , their managers can now see we have a competent team in charge ,NO PB and that the club is putting in place a whole new setup , we have a CEO running the club and not RM WHO IS NOW JUST FOCUSING ON THE NEW STADIUM . Players are being paid ,we have good attendances ,quite a lot of plusses going our way that make us an atractive proposition .

But it's still Ron Martin who writes the checks and has the final say on signings! Nothing's really changed apart from Ron taking a load off!

Wow. Just wow. Chesterfield in particular have spent a lot of money and are a very big club for this level. In Kabongo Tshimanga alone they possess the National League's top scorer and signed him for an "amazing fee" (see link below) that was originally set with Championship and League One clubs in mind.

Steve you need to quickly learn that we are no longer a League club and deservedly so. We are a National League club now and we have one of the poorest squads in this division. NOBODY has a divine right to play at any level and you need to show more respect to teams like Chesterfield (and even less talent-rich clubs like Woking) who are BETTER THAN WE ARE. Enough of this "we should be smashing these teams" nonsense. We are where we are for a reason. Only an awful lot of hard work and shewd business in the transfer market across a lengthy period of time will turn this club around, it simply will not happen overnight! You need to accept the fact that if we survive relegation (and I believe that's achievable) we will very likely be playing at this level for at least 2-3 seasons and that's a very conservative estimate as this is an incredibly difficult league to get out of - there are some very big clubs like Notts County, Wrexham etc who have been down here several years now. Show some respect for the division and show some respect for those tasked with getting this club back into the EFL. Maher, Currie, Bentley, Stan - they've had literally a few WEEKS at Roots Hall and it will take several months or more likely YEARS to sort out this mess. Come on mate, you're embarrassing yourself now....
