Pre-game entry music

Around 2007ish, the club ran a competition to create a club anthem. Numerous songs were suggested, the winner was 'Bridge over troubled water' by Simon and Garfunkle.

Lyrics were printed, it was used for a handful of games and even though it was a majority vote from the fans it was fruitless. It soon got dropped.

My personal choice back then was 'It's Now or Never' by Elvis. I thought the sound of a crowd chanting that with a version of SUFC lyrics would be great. It didn't win so never pushed it.

Many moons ago, i was provided with a cd from a local band (i think they were called The Colours or something similar). The song was 'when Southend United come out to play sing up, sing up...' that was sung by the Blue voice back then.

Having met Rhys last month, I need to pull my finger out and carry through something that I suggested. May take a bit of time but I'm working on something big that would be great if it comes off. If it doesn't then I won't say what it was going to be!

As I've said already in the thread, contact me on here, message the club. We are all in this together and I would love to work with the Blue Voice on this and unite the stadium. We have had them sing along to some songs like Three little birds, Ring of fire, twist and shout.

I know it has been suggested in the past to get the music volume down at certain points when the crowd are in good voice. I will always try my best to do this and their atmosphere will always be better than a speaker. If the speakers can help set something off and unite the Roots hall roar then that would be amazing.
The Colours Between?

How’s about a bit of Grace Slick with Starship. It seems very appropriate post-consortium….

“Nothing’s Gonna Stop Us Now”

Really ? Are we American teenagers then?

How about some Dr Feelgood or Eddie and the Hot Rods? Keep it a bit more local. Martha and the Muffins as well maybe

We have the F.A. chucking away tradition as if it is some worthless trinkett & we have people moving amongst us that have no sense of place & belonging.

In the U.K. (or Great Britain or England if you prefer) we have a musical wealth & depth of talent that far outshines the size of a small country ............ for me, this is a richness that adds value to our culture & our day to day living.

So why would we (people from Essex) want a band from some other part of the world such a Septic Tank/Yank band to play our theme song?

It doesn't make any sense.

It's not a local band ........... and it's quite a "current" theme but for those of a certain age the arrival of another single or album from Slade was about as exciting as it gets.

Slade have a song called "Gudbuy T'Jane" (which translates from Brummie into Goodbye to Jane).

Cracking intro, great song to sing along to & easy to change the lyrics to "Goodbye to Ron" ...........
