Pre-game entry music

Sherif H

Omar's older brother
Is it just me, or is anybody else missing what has become our established entry music, Bolero?

That used to get the hairs on the back of neck standing up (albeit usually before a damp squib of a performance).

I like the idea that we have employed of posting the pre-match playlist, but I would like to see Bolero return prior to kick off as this had almost become a part of our identity.

I know Ben does the music, but not sure if he lurks on here?

I like it - but wonder if we need a new tune with the new era of ownership

I'm also a big fan of the Bolero as our walkout music. Happy to mix up the pre-match and half time playlists (Rob Zombie anyone?)

But for me Southend walking out to Bolero used to give me goosebumps. That music is like our match of the day theme tune. You know that when that starts to play you need to get to your seat for the action.

Here I am Sherif, just come and ask me mate - you sit 5 seats away from me! I can normally hear you from where you are 😉

I have played it at handful of games this season but certainly not as much as I used to. Its one of those songs that we can all associate with some magical moments and used to define people's timings when approaching the turnstiles. I will include it more often where time allows, with the introduction of the pre match video and sometimes other things like the ex player announcements, it's not always as straight forward as it used to be (which by own admission was more regimental). I've tried to come away from that approach now and play to ear more but will certainly include it more going forward.
Did I hear Welcome to the Jungle at some point on Sat? Now that's my kind of pre-match music.
You did hear that. Great song, been played only a handful of times at Roots Hall. Bradford Bulls used to (and perhaps maybe still do) play it. Have always tried not to copy other clubs as I like to think of us being better than that.

That being said, Three Little Birds does copy Ajax (and apparently Chelsea how people know that I dont know) but it is relevant to how the fans were feeling and continues to be sung.

I played Disturbed 'Down with the Sickness) last month when the teams come onto the pitch too.

The fans playlist has thrown up some brilliant songs, some like Guns N Roses are awesome for a walk out song.

This, to a degree. When the Three Amigos came back I went back to the old build up of God is a DJ, Levels, Sandstorm, Safri Duo and Bollero. That was three years ago and it's only this year I've come away from that. Some fans have said 'cds not been changed in 20 years' and 'same old poo'. Im always trying to do things differently, one day something will stick.

With COSU, we now have the screen and build up video, we have more fan engagement with Ex players through Andy, we now have the playlist so things have evolved.

I do try and play music from every genre and try and keep it different each week. That being said, there are some that are more frequent than others but I will always try and keep people happy.

Bolero for a walk out theme? Really? Jeez. A bit namby pamby. Hardly gonna get the pulses racing is it.
If you want to use some classical… carmen burana or some holst… or really cheesy (though I love the tune), war of the worlds.. not some bloody ice skating nonsense.

It has literally been the walk out music for about 10 seasons...sure you are thinking of the same Bolero?
