Players who have been 'forced out' of the club who we wouldn't mind having right now

Indeed. The amount of money we could have saved or just spent on a quality forward to take the place of Goater eh?
Wasnt that why he bought Paynter though? There comes a time when you have to make a judgement on a signing, but unfortunately Tilly has shown with Paynter, Foran, Revell and Walker that picking strikers isnt his speciality, and wasting a fair old lump of cash at the same time.

Those advocating Michael Kightly are doing so with the benefit of 20/20 hindsight. Does anyone here seriously think at the time that Kightly was a better like for like player than Mark Gower? To Kightly's credit he took the release well, worked his nuts off at Grays and has become a Premiership player. Football is littered with players who've been released by clubs and come back and had good careers.

I would personally give my right bollock to have seen Lee Sawyer out there on saturday for us.

Not better than Gower but he showed plenty of glimpses of promise we couldn't be bothered to nurture. This is not hindsight; I was disappointed they let him go.

If only Sawyer had stayed on when he originally came here. He was in some great form, and I'm sure things would have gone smoother.

However right now I'd like to see some belief come back.

... or maybe if we'd played him when he came back the second time. Considering some of the dross that gets a game week in, week out, the handling of Sawyer was abject.

exactly my feeling. he turned games when coming off the bench... he deserved a proper run in the team

Leon Clarke - great at our level

And if he had put some effort in we might have signed him. How come when people leave they are remembered fondly? His last game was against Donny and even Tilly accused him of not trying.

....don't recall saying anything about fond - but I would have him back in a shot as he could score the goals that would win us games.

I am fond of Revell for his work ethic but would choose Clarke over Revell every day.

Indeed. Players that knew each others game inside out. The amount of money we could have saved or just spent on a quality forward to take the place of Goater eh? We could have scraped survival and then built from there and MAYBE be in the same position as Swansea and Forest rather then battling for survival in a lower league with the likes of Stockport & Wycombe.

The core of that side was also the core of the side which almost got relegated to the Conference two seasons earlier. Who out of the players that we released would have made the difference? Duncan Jupp was slated half the time on here when we were in League Two. Che Wilson played a couple of times in the Championship with disastrous consequences. Wayne Gray was a fringe player in League One and ended up at a smaller Club that us.

The one player that we let go who should have stayed and I'm sure Tilly regrets letting go was Mark Bentley.

On last Saturdays performance, Kevin Betsy all day long. I always thought he did a mediocre job here, but Saturday showed what we're missing. He was constantly running at our backline causing problems, and looked capable of creating something.

He looked like a dangerous version of Scannell IMO

What a shame it took a move to another club to show us. Betsy has been a good journeyman professional throughout his career.

I know most of the suggestions on here have been joking (eg Richard Young, Kevin Betsy, Che Wilson etc) but I'm surprised no-one has mentioned Lewis Hunt.

With Francis at centre-half, we could really do with him at right-back.

What i wouldnt give for Jupp Bentley Pettifer Hunt.
All underated , but really commited players who wore the shirt with pride and were versaitle ,something that eludes most of our current squad.

Luke. Guttridge.

I'd love a midfielder who could pass the thing, and one who Tilson wouldn't discard onto the wing because he lacks the cajones to drop McCormack.
