Veering wildly off topic but Im pretty sure the third world comes cap in hand to the general public. I hav sat through red nose day and sports relief to prove it....

They get **** all from me, that is for sure

And i'll not sit through red farce day or sports relief either :winking:

AGREED ... it sickens me how this country can find the money to fight wars, bail out Third World countries and give billions to Europe yet folks like Cancer Research and Mind have to go cap in hand to the general public for much needed funding

They also get support from the government too.

Back on topic.

Not a southend United relative. But Paul Robinson (WBA/Bolton left back who has played against Southend United) came to my brothers (my relative) wedding. Tenuous link I know...

I have just started my own two charities. Alongthe lines of Movember for prostate cancer I have started a charity to combat erecile dysfunction and this will be launched in the autumn as Cocktober with a TV appeal called Hand Relief.

Well if we're moving on from our own club, then I will soon be related by marriage to Johnnie Jackson of Charlton!

A stiff task,but good luck anyway.

Talking of charities, my Aunt left everything in her will (after being rather misled by the man she met in the late 70's) to 4 charities, one of which was Cancer research. Everything except £1000 to each of her sisters, one of which being my mum. Now that was in 1982 and she died last year. £1000 in 1982 was a lot of money and apparently they don't go by inflation etc for sums of money left in wills, so £1000 was what my mum got. My Aunt's bungalow was worth about £8000 in 1982 and was sold for about £300k last year. She also had a sum of money in the bank. This totalled to well over £400k, split between 4 charities, they all got over £100k each.

My mum asked for a couple of bits in the house that were personal and reminded her of her sister. The charities were ok with this, as long as they got it valued first and took it out of the £1000 my mum got. That is ridiculously tight and as they were all getting £100k each from my Aunt's will, my mum was disgusted with the charities attitude.

I'm not big on charities nowerdays funnily enough.

It's a problem I have with charities too. They have a pretty ruthless side to them at times, you'd have thought they'd be happy with the fact that a lady, who might otherwise have left her worldly goods to relations, thought enough of them to leave them a share without being so miserly with living relatives.

I used to play in the school football team at mayflower comp, Billericay, with Glenn Pennyfather. He was better than me I must confess. And my bro-in-law was mates at school in wickford with Tilly.

If your goalkeeping exploits in the dawn till dusk game are anything to go by, I'd say Douglas Bader would have been better than you :winking:

Use to work with Matt Harold's cousin when Harold played for us.

Also played in the same school team as Gill's Chris Whelpdale

I won't tell you about the fun I had when I managed a charity and a few big charities tried it on to increase their share of the estate. They wanted to go to court for a few extra thousand. Me and a local cat charity declined to join in.
