League One

Scannell unused sub for Daggers, I presume Duran Reynolds is still on loan at some non-league side.
One of Chrissy Powell's first moves as Charlton boss was to sub Alan McCormack as Charlton, 2-0 up after 6 minutes let slip a lead. Simon Francis played the full 90 though.
Sold in the winter rather than let go for free in the summer, the recently charged Lee Barnard was a late sub for Southampton.
Craig Calver came on for Yeovil. I'd forgotten that he existed, but that was his fourth sub appearance, although the former Ipswich forward has still to score.

Championship

Moussa was a late sub for Leicester as was O'Keefe for struggling Palace who got thumped 3-0 by Mark Gower's Swansea, whilst Barrett was unused by new Eagles boss Dougie Freedman. Mildenhall was the sub keeper for Millwall again.

League Two

Francis Laurent failed to even make the bench at Northampton.
Of those that stayed, only Grant saw any action as the mighty Shrimpers beat high-flying Rotherham for the second time this season. Paterson and Herd were both on the bench and Spencer injured/dead.

A sighting of Francis Laurent today reminded me that it's about time to update this again.

Laurent, received a warm welcome (not just from the crowd but also former team-mate Anthony Grant, who put in two big tackles early doors) but put in a lacklustre sub appearance for mid-table Northampton against their promotion chasing hosts.

Grant and fellow sub Crawford were the only players he'd have recognised from last season, with Herd not even making the bench and Paterson exiled on loan in Stockport (for the record he failed to score and was subbed in their defeat in Peter Taylor's last game in charge of Bradford).

Moving up a division, there wasn't much more joy for last season's released Shrimpers. Damien Scannell was a late sub for the Daggers who slipped to a late defeat. Craig Calver was an unused sub for Yeovil. On Friday night, Simon Francis, the only one the club wanted a fee for, played in Charlton's defeat whilst the residents of Greenwich's windows were reprieved by team-mate Alan McCormack being confined to the bench for the full 90.

Whilst McCormack was riding the pine in League One, Franck Moussa has moved on from Sven's Leicester and is now starting for Doncaster in the Championship (as was last year's loanee George Friend). Elsewhere in the division Steve Mildenhall was on the bench for Millwall - presumably clasping his new contract - whilst neither Barrett nor O'Keefe were able to make the Palace bench - although whether this was through injury or lack of ability is unclear.

Not let go over the summer, but part of last years squad none the less; Barnard played the role of Super sub, coming off the St. Mary's bench to score the Saint's fourth goal in their comfortable 4-1 win over Swindon.

Jean-Francois Christophe played for AFC Compiegne as they drew 1-1 with Metz B in the French 4th Division, with his side languishing in 14th. Osei Sankofa played the full 90 minutes for Farnborough at right back in their 2-0 win over Dorchester in the Blue Square South, third only to Braintree Town and Chelmsford City. Kelvin Jack, who never made an appearance for SUFC, has since been at Darlington where he was loaned out to Kettering Town before being released and is currently without a club.
Back in the Football League, Jean-Yves M'voto is recovering from a bad ankle injury at Sunderland which cut short his loan spell at Oldham after 17 appearances. Fellow loanee Pat Baldwin missed out on Colchesters defeat to Plymouth with an Achilles injury, while ex-teammate Scott Vernon played alongside another ex-Blue, Robert Milsom, for Aberdeen as they drew 0-0 with Hearts, failing to add to his tally of 9 goals in 24 appearances this season. Scott Spencer also played the last few minutes of injury time for Steve Tilson's Lincoln City in their 4-2 defeat to Barnet.

French 4th Division!?! Not quite the Premiership eh JFC!
He made 1 appearance for Oldham before being released and he headed home and has since made three appearances for Compiegne, one at right back with the other two in centre midfield, and is yet to score.

Interesting. Not too many going on to better things - just shows how poor last years squad was(especially after Barnard went). So, is this years teamn already better than the team that finished last season, at less than half the wage bill? Shows just how far things had slipped.

You mean we're paying this lot half of nothing ? They didn't slip, they were pushed !!

Excellent work, but you've relegated Dagenham and I think released Johnny Herd (as he's not in blue).

You've also, understandably, left out Craig Calver and Duran Reynolds. Much like Tilly did really.

Ammended, and have added them on but was just using the back page of the programme for the last game of last season to help remember!

Duran Reynolds has been appearing in Grays Athletic's first team, guess this would also make him loweste level of football as well.

Indeed he has! Unfortunately, can't find any information on the exact number of games or anything at the moment but I'll keep trying. Would be interesting to see if the eighth tier of English football is worse than the fourth tier of French football though ;)

Revs should be included in all this, seeing as he was at Wycombe on an emergency loan and therefore technically still a Sarfend player.

I've been pointed in the direction of this thread on the Charlton messageboard by one SZ poster.

Some rather choice comments on the abilities or otherwise of their ex-Southend contingent.

Secondly we will lose far more games than we win with people like Francis and McCormack in the team. Ive been defending Francis all season but now i have realised i cant any more. He was dreadful tonight . He gave the ball away nearly ever time he got it and yet again his mistake lead to another goal. He is just a very bad player and there is no more to say on that subject. McCormack is nearly as bad . he also gave the ball away when is seemed easier to pass to a red shirt . He also pulls out of too many tackles.

Simon Francis has to be the worst Charlton player that I have seen in the 34 years that I have been going to games. Their 2nd goal just about summed him up. 5th minute of injury time he hits the 1st man (again) whilst taking a corner it comes straight back to him and then without another charlton player touching the ball it is in the back of our net within 15 seconds.

Mccormack looks like a proper ball winning hard man, however he pulls out of tackles and is unable to control the ball or play even the simplest of passes.

If these two players were Southends best last year then it's not surprising that they got relegated.

My god Alan McCormack. I'm having shudders typing his name.

I hate to criticise players, especially those that are clearly doing their best but having not so long ago watched players like Scot Parker, Claus Jensen, Mark Kinsella, Di Canio, Darren Bent, Richard Rufus, Johnny Robinson, Mark Fish, Jorge Costa, Super Clive, Andy Hunt, Danny Murphy, Dean Kiely, The Herminator, JJ .....the list goes on but it's depressing me too much - wearing the red shirt, it makes it hard to stomach the like of McCormack and some of the limited players we now have in the team.

Ratings

They don't seem to rate Francis or "McOxo"

So we insisted on playing Macca and forcing Moussa out on the left, in the next season, Macca is playing poor in League One and Moussa is getting a regular starting place and putting in decent performances in the Championship .... don't you just love football.
