I didn't think we would do it, and it really came down to Gateshead having a total mare at the end of the season. 10 games ago it really wasn't looking possible on our run of form. But we found some form at the right time, so roll on next Thursday!

Fair enough, but to put it in some perspective. Gateshead lost 10 of their last 13 matches. Without that colossal blow up we would not be celebrating tonight. We will take it though as the whole club deserves a break after last year.
True. But they did. We could also have scored one today and gone ahead of Halifax too.

I have a dream ...

That some of those old North Bank/PAK boys might be able to don their old butcher's coats for the semi-final with Forest Green Rovers.
I had one Rob, as a young lad. It had the customary standout players names on in biro and felt tip. Also things like S.U.F.C, The Pak, Seasiders, The Southend North Bank, etc, etc. Obviously Billy Best was on it the most. Billy Best, Billy Best is King, King Billy, etc.

We should be celebrating results like today and remembering not to **** the bed every time we only pick up a point in November.

Results count over a whole season and ours were enought to get us over that line. Nothing is finished yet but we are still in the race and that's all anyone can ask for.
Indeed, and Maher's teams have also had a better second half than first half of season. Some reasons for that maybe removed next season. But some only want to give him until Sept/Oct next season.

Where's the Maher IN / OUT thread and poll ? Surely, this should still be discussed ? especially the thoughts from those that wanted him out some time ago. Would they still want him gone at the end of the season, due to the style of play etc ?
Where's Wiggy and the criticism of Hayes too? Oh it must be another clean sheet ! Theyre all missing Supa eh

This is roughly how 4th to 10th will look by season end, if current season form is maintained.

As you can see the target could be as much as 77 points this season to scrape into 7th spot. A very high total driven by those in 4th to 7th with very similar high ppg.

This would require us to up our current PPG of 1.44 to a massive 2.78 PPG over the last 9 games to give us a shot. In short, around 8 wins and a draw should do it....

--------------------------------------
4. Halifax 1.69 ppg = 78 points
5. Oldham 1.68 ppg = 77 points
6. Gateshead 1.67 ppg = 77 points
7. Rochdale 1.67 ppg = 77 points
--------------------------------------
8. Altrincham 1.57 ppg = 72 points
9. SOUTHEND 1.44 ppg = 66 points
10. Eastleigh 1.41 ppg = 65 points

Points required for 7th spot in last 5 seasons (46 game seasons only): 71, 71, 74, 73, 75 gives an average of 73 points required for 7th spot.

So as a minimum we likely need 7 wins from 10 to have even a slight chance of backdooring it.
It's interesting to see how this turned out. We are the only side to exceed the prediction. Poor old Gateshead finished with 10 points less.

Strangely enough I predicted eight weeks ago that we would end up with 68 points and doubted that it would be enough......

To be fair that is the first time I have seen him come and dominantly claim a corner…if he can do that more often then he would go up in my estimation 👍🏼
Yes, that was good to see and the clean sheets will give him more confidence. However, in the last three games he hasn't been put into many testing situations due to the quality of the opposition and the form of the defence in front of him. Personally I still rate Collin as the better keeper but good luck to Nick Hayes at Rochdale and hopefully further play off matches.
