So on to Saturday's games. We must beat Sutton which will be difficult. They are not in great form (2 wins, 1 draw and 3 defeats in their last six games) but they outplayed us at Roots Hall winning 3-1 so they may well fancy their chances. They have nothing to play for so will hopefully be a little less resilient.

Altrincham v Yeovil. Yeovil have ended their losing run with two victories in their last two matches. I predict a draw.

Gateshead v Daggers. This is where Gateshead end their long losing run. I predict a draw.

Maidenhead v Tamworth. A nailed on win for Tamworth.

Eastleigh v Halifax. Neither team has won in their last four matches. I predict a draw.

If all that comes to pass then we will be in sixth place on Saturday night.

It's games like Saturday that Devonshire normally earns his corn. Plus, nothing is ever nailed on. I thought we were nailed on to beat Boston after totally outplaying them in the first 45 minutes, looked what happened. Strange things happen in football. We could make the playoffs and have lost to Maidenhead twice. All it takes is one decision/injury/freak goal.

Wealdstone winning last night was a huge result for them! No one would have predicted that with Boston's form. Daggers have taken 7 points from 9 and still haven't pulled away. Teams down there keep digging out the odd result to keep them in touch. It's why I keep saying that playing those bottom sides is the most dangerous game you can play.

Sutton winning on penalties for me was a good result for a few reasons.

Firstly, they may.... be physically and mentally drained from what was in their eyes a very important game away from home a few days before ours and its fair to say they'll have one eye on the National League cup, rather than the league in which they are both safe from relegation, and have no chance of getting in the play offs.

I have said that historically, these mid table sides are the worst to play against if you are fighting for something but I think last nights turnout may just change our game slightly.

One thing that's a good feeling for me, is whilst the team have been getting the results that they have, they have played themselves back into having qualification for the play offs, this season, in their own hands.

Where we have come from and been dragged to over recent years, the development of the team and squad this season, however it plays out, it is a huge demonstration of what this club is capable of at this level. Some will no doubt say, at this level, of course we should be, but it still has to be delivered. And you only have to look at Scunthorpe and Torquay to see it could have been even worse.

There is a lot to be proud of now at this club on and off the pitch and wherever we finish in the table and the season, I hope we can take this forward into next season and those to come and remember the efforts put in by all the players, management, COSU and staff of this club to give us this winning feeling back again.

We absolutely can make the playoffs. I'm blown away by the poll results for this thead and can only assume that people have misunderstood the question.

Will we? Not sure, we have a reasonable chance. Improving home for will be key, if we can do that while maintaining 2ppg we will have a fair shout. Lots of teams in the race however. Tamworth in 15th are 5 points off Rochdale in 7th.

I wish I knew what the poll score was when I posted this two months ago lol

Grimsby is on a par. They have a long road of hundreds of shops, a bit like a shorter version of our London Road, only 2 thirds were shut down, graffitied and vandalised, the last time I was there. And their big name stores have been closing down. I know a lot has to do with losing their fishing industry, but blimey, what a mess. Last year they had a whopping 54% jobless benefit rate.
The only time I have been to Grimsby, it was that end of season game. It was summer in Southend but still winter in Grimsby. My mate who travelled up on coach had to buy himself and his son a coat each because the were in T shirts!
