Phil Brown

I remember him making a big fuss of travelling up to Barrow to watch them whereas he didn’t even bother to watch Col Ewe for our six pointer we had to win to stay up and they are right on our doorstep.

Would be interesting to see if he got the job whether he references having friends and family/a home in the area.

It’s a lot more simple than that! When he went to watch that Barrow match, his old mate Neil McDonald - his assistant when he was at Swindon, was assistant to Barrow’s caretaker manager Rob Kelly. 3 points at Barrow didn’t quite help us enough though.

Anyone want to hazard a guess at who Brown has got as his assistant with him at Barrow? Yep Neil McDonald…….

I don't understand any positivity to PB but everyone has their own view. Good luck Barrow
Really? Have you forgotten this?

Yes, Brown had poor judgement at times, including a terrible habit of throwing people under the bus, but he oversaw one of my best days ever in football and I will forever be grateful to him for that.

I've said before many times, that he was also excellent with fan engagement, fully embracing his role where the Trust and the Junior Blues were concerned.

Good luck to PB, learn from where you went wrong in your 2nd spell here and you'll do ok.

I forget nothing, although that was a great day that team should have got automatics that year.

Fan engagemant great, throwing players under the bus unacceptable.

Maher conducts himself in a mich better manner than PB ever did.

Especially when he was a player, and I suspect those that heckled him and Alvin Martin with abuse and banners hanging from Upper South may now be those aiming shots at Phil Brown

Us older fans have long memories and if you think Brown is the devil, then you should have been around with Dick Bate era, then you saw trouble but carried on for the better days to follow

Honestly without being the old man, todays supporters have never had it so good over last few years with the trips to Wembley/Wales, we could only dream of that in the 1970s

I don't think anyone is doubting that. You said you didn't understand any positivity to PB, I'm demonstrating the reason why many (I'd even say probably the majority) of us have some positive memories. You can't ever take that away from Brown, and, as @Dave Smiths Love Child says, there have been far, far worse managers.

Phil Brown is such an enigma! His first spell start over a cloud with the sacking of the popular Sturrock and being told he could lead out the team in the Tin Pot Paint Trophy final. Playing Mohsni out of position.

His outside media work never went down well and his constant flirting with any other higher available position never made him likeable.

However, he brought one of the best moments I’ve had as a Southend United fan at Wembley since post Tilly era. That day will be forever in my memory and one I spent with my Dad and as others will have spent with friends and family. And I will always be thankful to Phil Brown and that team for that day. Yes we could’ve gone up automatically but anyway that tells you they would trade that semi and the final for automatic promotion is a ****ing liar!

The whole clique and poisonous dressing room was created from Brown signings. Did he know that was going to happen? Doubtful, but he still allowed it to go ahead. And as I said in the Molesley thread that has only been repaired now through our new coaching team and football staff! Once player power (Cox) took over he was never going to get it back. He was sacked at the right time and he should never have come back.

When he came back I was hoping for that dream reaction, couple of wins and we don’t get relegated. Phil Brown becomes the hero again like in 2015. But it wasn’t too be and we should never have given him the job like Kevin Bond should never have got the job.

I wish him the best of luck at Barrow. I don’t dislike Phil Brown, I met him a few times and he was a genuinely nice bloke always had time for the fans. I think he also had a genuine love for the club. But as others have said he’s stuck in the old ages of management and hasn’t moved with the times. I hope he keeps Barrow up and pushes the scum into the relegation zone!

Barrow’s next 2 away games are at Orient and Crawley. The other 7 opponents are higher up,seeking promotion. With Brown in charge they’ll struggle to get 2 points+ to overtake clueless Colchester.

Strange appointment but I think if you were to get PB into an interview he would be very convincing. He's a likable guy when you chat with him and obviously has great confidence in himself. His 1st spell was an enjoyable era in the most part but it was obvious to me he wasn't the man to lead us when he came back in the circumstances we found ourselves in, and I said that at the time. I have serious doubts if he can be successful again and if he is it will mean an overhaul of his methods, can you teach an old dog new tricks? In some cases, yes, but with PB i'm sceptical. The former players from his time at higher levels are all too old to call on now and his successful signing were all players with higher level experience where Ron funded big wages. "Clean sheet mentality" might be enough to save them this season, PB isn't bad at organising a defence and defending as a team. I'd be underwhelmed for the future if I were a Barrow supporter and PB were in charge next season though.

For Phil punditry is likely the only sane and reasonable employment for the future.
He could do some scouting maybe.
Ohhhhh nope....he picks the job up at Barrow...how this has happened is beyond me, I mean what the literal feck...just the last 12 months tell you this is the worst ever decision to make.
