Phil Brown

Hes a full of himself smug git. But i dont hate him. Gave us some great times.

His recruitment was way off the mark and helped root us in this ****ty division but If anything i blame RM for going back to him.
Not sure your logic behind that. There multiple managers between his departing then coming back. If anything Ron messed up but not getting him in earlier to steer us from the drop.

When we went down Brown signed Bridge (still here), Arnold who was a fan favourite and had he stayed Collin wouldn’t have had as many starts as he had and Dalby who we sold for a decent amount of money! I think the reason we are in this ****ty division is down to one man and one man only. To blame Brown’s recruitment is just laughable!

‘If truth be known’
Unlike some on here, I have always liked Phill Brown, I think he is a decent bloke and always wish him well.
At the moment he is Top of the League with Kidderminster Harriers, so good luck to them.
Here is Phill’s Post Match interview.

Loves his familiar lines “putting a marker down” Hope to see him next season, has a bad rep with fans who should remember his first great spell with us and not continually hark on about his less glorious second spell.

I totally agree on the recruitment front, but I still haven't forgiven his lack of pre match preparedness when we visited the North Essex Cousins. Had we taken the spoils from that game we would have kept our league status. But all of that is water under the bridge now.

We didn't get relegated because of this one game but because Martin left it too late getting shot of the hopeless Molesley. If Brown had had longer to turn things round we probably would still be in the EFL.

He mentions not making players train on Christmas Day for the obvious reason that it would do more harm than good. A few years back Ron hd the hump with the players and demanded PB gets them all in on the 25th........Of course I would never grass anyone up but the rumour is PB agreed with Ron, then told all the players about it and not to bother.

That doesn't alter my opinion of his lack of readiness tactically for that Colchester game.

You didnt read what i said properly.

I said his recruitment helped cement us in this division, not take us down there. Im not only blaming his recruitment and i didnt say that.

Are you forgetting that first year or just cherry picking the couple of players that were ok?

Phil Brown being Phil Brown.....

Former Premier League manager Phil Brown has aimed a remarkable scathing rant at his Kidderminister Harriers players, insisting they want him to be sacked.

Brown was made famous by his spell at Hull City, taking the Tigers up into the Premier League, before delivering a number of remarkable results in their first campaign in the top-flight. He has also had stints in charge of Southend, Preston North End and Swindon Town.

The Englishman was appointed Kidderminister boss in January 2024, though he was unable to save them from relegation to the National League North. This season has also been difficult with Saturday's defeat to Spennymoor Town seeing them drop out of the play-offs.

In the aftermath of that blow, Brown launched into his players, accusing them of trying to get him sacked. He insisted that they had let the club down with their performance, which led to their 10th defeat of the campaign.

“It was the overall understanding of the team, what was required to win again football. There’s a certain way of playing football, and there’s a certain way of wearing the shirt. The players out there wore it with no pride whatsoever, no ambition to try and win the game," Brown said.

“They looked like they were going through the motions, and that’s a representation of me. So it’s not a case of the changes I made that did that. These players I’ve been playing for me all season, and I’ve never seen anything like that.

“It was unrecognisable. There’s something going on in the changing room. I don’t know what it is. It was almost like they didn’t want me at the football club. They played that way. That’s the only way I can describe the performance – to get me out.

“I’d love for one of them to step up here in front of the camera and just say those words. I’m wasting my time trying to motivate them if they want me out of the club, and that’s the way they represented me here."

Mid-table Spennymoor went two up before Harrriers pulled one back with 10 minutes left. But the visitors added a third to put the game beyond reach, leading to Brown threatening to punish his players.

“They’ve made my life a misery, and consequently, because of that, I might as well make their life a misery, they’ll be in on Sunday, like naughty schoolboys that need educating," he added.

“I’ll stay at the helm as long as the chairman wants me because it’s the chairman that employs me. But the way the players represented us was just really not good enough for themselves, not good enough not just for the football club.

“It’s almost like they were imposters. And if that’s the case, then go and do another job, something else. I try to educate them. I try to give them everything with regards to the professional side of the game, as I know nearly 2,000 games as a player, coach and a manager.

“I’ve been sacked before – but I’ve never seen such a weird, lacklustre, no direction, kind of representation of Phil Brown, and I’m really I want to apologise to everybody that came to the game.

“It’s not acceptable to play football in that manner. I’ll level this to all the players when they come in. It was embarrassing. If it goes on like this for the rest of the season, the place will be empty, I wouldn’t pay to watch that.”

When he was at Southend, he was a mixed bag. He had a very likeable side, he was fun, and is good hearted. But he had this other side that would blank certain players, once he had fallen out with them. This obviously caused problems on and off the pitch, and disrupted team spirit. If some of these players aren't playing for him, then perhaps he hasn't learnt from the past. He is extremely stubborn, and it's his way or the highway. He knows so much about football and tactics, but man management was his weakness. He once said in an article that he wonders why he isn't currently managing in the Premiership. There's a few reasons why he's managing at National League North. Maybe the penny will drop one day, as he has so much to give.

True, but if there was one single match that season that had the most impact on our relegation it was the game at Colchester. Colchester's confidence was rock bottom while ours was improving. The game cried out for an attacking line up and intention - so many of us on SZ were stating this before the match, we could see our route to safety opening up. Inexplicably Phil went defensive and paid the price. I blame him for that.
