Phil Brown

I hope Kidderminster have a good scouting network, leave recruitment to Brown and he'll probably blow the budget on Jake Hyde.

I really don't get the hate for PB. Any manager who gets us promoted deserves some credit. We've had plenty far worse.
I don't hate PB, in fact I quite like him.

I think what didn’t help him was his appointment (not his fault). The touting himself about for every job that became available. Some of his signings, his media work and the second stint didn’t help his case with some.

I don’t think about a lot of that, I like to think about one of the best days for me as a Southend fan at Wembley! I got to share that with my Dad having missed the one at the Millennium because we didn’t want to go to Cardiff for a 3rd time of misery. I will always be thankful to Phil Brown for helping to give me that memory.

It’s sometime seen as trendy to hate on people, when it comes to Southend United it appears hating on Brown is the one for us.

If you look at who Kiddie have signed, it does seem he’s again backing experience heavily. Need to hope in works better in the division below than it did in the NL.

My cousin, a Kiddie fan, travelled to their away game yesterday at Needham Market in NLN. He persuaded me to travel across the border from Norfolk to accompany him to Suffolk. And a chance to see PB in a different environment. 462 in attendance at a country ground, it felt very similar to watching Rayleigh Town at home in the 1960s. I wanted to witness Phil in this scenario. What he made of it heaven knows. The trade mark bark at his players was very much heard. He agreed to a selfie for another Shrimper who had turned up to see the former gaffer. I got chatting to two other Shrimpers who had been curious, like me. Phil looked in good shape and was smiling broadly as his team demolished Market 3-0. It should have been five. Interesting to see an alleged target of ours many years ago, Ashley Hemmings, get two goals. The ball spent a lot of time in aerial mode. Harriers could be heading for playoffs and a return to NL. What was frightening was the thought that I was witnessing life in a league into which we would slip if it all went wrong, albeit we would be in NLS. (Needham Market are hard done by being put into NLN). All in all a good day out in sunny Suffolk. Phil waved to the Kiddie faithful at the end and headed home, contemplating being a dad once more in a couple of months. Life in the old dog still!

As a footnote to my post above #434, the game gave me an opportunity to watch another Afghan international, Maz Kouhyar, on loan at Kidderminster from York. My cousin had marked my card about Maz and he did not disappoint. Left footed, he played wide left and with skill and speed was a constant thorn in the side of the Marketmen. Not a typical Brownie signing, only 27, he caught the eye with his determination and industry. Not afraid to put a foot in, I wonder whether Kev has had a look at Maz? Needham weren't that good so difficult to judge him but might be worth a second look? Maz was at Walsall before York and has 66 appearances for City so he is not inexperienced. Perhaps the fact that York have sent him out on loan says enough however.
