Breaking News Pepple recalled by Luton

He was very happy at Southend, but when people advise him to talk to FGR, and they offer him silly money, reportedly 3 times the Southend wage, then who can blame him and his agent for going to FGR. Also, it was FGR who wanted him to cut out communication with our fans, etc, immediately once he had signed for them.
Genuinely pathetic, if true. Not that I wouldn’t expect that from a club owned by Vince. We’re hardly talking leaving Spurs for Arsenal or Man U for City are we?

I've heard this said but no explanation as to why, seems very petty. Did Cardwell acknowledge our fans at RH when FGR came back? Not that I saw but I didn't hang around after FT. He looked as miserable as sin so something was definitely a bit weird about it all.

Anyway class from Bim, I hope he goes on to do great things. Seemed a cracking fella and really improved when here. Good luck to him.

I'm convinced they only signed him to **** us.

Sorry, off topic I know, but I have to say I have thought this from the outset but didn't want to be accused of being a conspiracy theorist. We are led to believe FGR offered Cards double or triple the wages we were paying him and then they just mostly sit him on the bench. What better way to interfere with a potential promotion rival than to eliminate one of their key players if you have the financial clout to do so.

It fits for me. If it were a normal transfer then maybe not, but if they got wind that the top goalscorer of a potential promotion rival had a modest release clause in his contract, and could then also get at his agent and other people around him and spout off about how much they could offer him in wages, and how much of a cut the agent would get.......you have the perfect storm.

Not much of a conspiracy theorist myself, but I wouldn't be surprised here.

I’m pretty sure you’re right mate. The release clause really hurt us and was insisted upon by his agent.

Didn't Wrexham do exactly the same ?

Buy rival's decent players to weaken them.

It used to happen more. The early Abramovich Chelsea bought everyone they could to stop their rivals getting them and then sent them out on loan to non rival clubs. The trouble is that you can't keep 40 good players happy unless they are playing and so it backfires in the long run.

Err..... didn't several of us say this at the time Cards left....?

Gone - Bim Pepple has left Southend United (Image: FOCUS IMAGES)

By Chris Phillips@cjphillips1982Chief sports reporter.

BIM Pepple has revealed his desire to make Canada’s 2026 World Cup squad was a factor in his departure from Southend United.

Pepple scored 11 goals in 23 games while with the Shrimpers on loan from Luton Town.

But the 22-year-old will now spend the second half of the season playing in League Two after being recalled by the Hatters last week.

And Pepple is eager to play higher as he strives to secure international recognition.

“With the World Cup coming up in 2026, Canada are hosting and it’s a goal of mine to be on that plane,” said Pepple.

“I know what kind of level I need to be playing at to make it a possibility.

“The chance to move up with the World Cup coming up was hard to turn down but it was a very, very tough decision and I’ll always be thankful to everyone at the club.”

Pepple was selected in Canada’s under 17 squad during his youth but has yet to make his senior debut.

The striker had found first team appearances hard to come by before joining Blues in late August and relished playing regularly at Roots Hall.

“I was craving that chance to get regular football and really show what I can do,” said Pepple.

“There was definitely a lot the gaffer, the whole staff and team-mates taught me as well.

“They would give me pointers, we’d sit down and look at the videos too and it’s something I’ll never forget.

“It really did help me and I’m so grateful for the opportunity.

“When I came in I didn’t have a big reputation so to be trusted like that was amazing.”

And that led to what the striker has described as his most enjoyable spell of his career so far.

“It’s the most fun I’ve had playing football and it was amazing,” said Pepple.

“I started off a bit slow and I didn’t score for a couple of games but as soon as the goal at Solihull went in it just took off.

“I felt the love and it was amazing.”

Pepple’s form and goals made him a firm favourite with the Shrimpers fans.

And the forward relished the support coming his way.

“The fans were some of the best I’ve ever experienced and were brilliant,” said Pepple.

“My parents came to the Ebbsfleet game on Boxing Day and were stunned with the fans and the atmosphere.

“I felt the love during my whole time here and I’m going to miss it.

“It’s making it really sad to leave.”

Chesterfield are now rumoured to be Pepple’s next club.

But the striker was not solely responsible for his Roots Hall exit.

“It wasn’t fully my decision but obviously I had a bit of a say,” said Pepple.

“It wasn’t all in my control, there were a couple of clubs and I had to speak with Luton as well.

“It was definitely very, very tough with how much I loved it at Southend.

“It just had to be done but it’s very sad and bitter-sweet.”

However, Pepple stressed he will continue to keep an eye on what is happening with Blues.

“I told my team-mates it’s not goodbye because they’ll definitely be seeing me around,” said Pepple.

“I don’t think I’m going to be too far away so hopefully I can get down to some games.

“I’ll definitely be keeping an eye on all the scores.”

Pepple’s contract with Luton expires in the summer, although the Championship club do still have the option of a further year.

And when asked about the chance of a return to Roots Hall, Pepple added: “You never know what can happen in football.

“I’m not going to make any promises but I will certainly not rule anything out either.

“I guess we’ll just have to wait and see.”

So he's not going to chesterfield then? Colchester? Although maybe for a Canadian chesterfield and Southend are close!
