Breaking News Paul Brush Dismissed...

Are you kidding?

We're in this mess in the first place because of the financial meltdown caused by the end of the Jobson era. The only reason we've had the relative financial stability of the last ten years is because Ron Martin saw an opportunity to make a lot of money from us. Had he, or another property developer, not seen that opportunity then we'd have been up ****-creek years ago.

Everything that has happened to us financially dates back to the last two years under Jobson where the Club had to sell it's only asset to bail itself out.

well said that man, laughable comment about jobson not leading us into financial meltdown, we dont own our own ground thanks to uncle vic who almost destroyed the club

Its certainly the most worrying thing i've ever read from Ron, of that there is no doubt !!!!

I think we can assume from his comment that if we went down the club would go into administration, if that happened we could end up being Luton Mk II. My fear is that we really are in the last chance saloon and that Martin thought he had to do something to stop the rot.

This season is turning into an unmitigated disaster.

So thats it, it's a lose lose situation.

He stays, he ruins the club even more, and then we go out of business.

Sell up Ron to the consortium!

You'd sell the club to a faceless consortium? Whose intentions are unknown, who we know nothing about, only from a shadowy front man.

You obviously weren't around when the Rubins sold to Anton Johnson, and we very nearly did lose the club after that debacle.

As ever I advocate that fans should be very careful about what they wish for. As ever I am not advocating for Ron Martin, but his frying pan may be better than the consortiums fire.

Dont get me wrong T & B have worked under extreme pressures this season and have been really restricted but are we really sure that the we have had the best coaching over the past few years ?

08/09 - Missed out on play-offs by a few points
07/08 - Finished in the Play-Offs
06/07 - Relegated
05/06 - Promoted as league champions
04/05 - promoted via play-offs.

Yep i'd say we've had very decent coaching tbh

Edited for accuRonacy. :)

With 12 games to go, I think an injection of new ideas might just come at the right time. However:

1. No official comment from Tilson. Can't believe this has been done with his blessing. If it's been done over his head, he may decide his position is untenable.
2. I've lost confidence in Martin to the point where I'm not convinced this isn't really about money.

Devon ... he did really well as Player-Manager in '87 to take us up with a rampant Wolves side nipping at our heels. Wolves won 11 out of their last 12 games IIRC and if we hadn't beaten them, then they'd have gone up instead of us.

The 'Great Escape' season was incredible - we won 5 out of our last 7 games to stay up & that's promotion form plus. I felt that he was unlucky the following season - we played good football at times but he was finding it difficult to be both player and manager, and Jobson brought Webby in to give Clarkey some well-earned respite. Remember: Clarkey took us up and kept us up, the latter in very difficult circumstances thanks to the mess left by Bate.

ps ... and keeping this (tangentially) on topic, he signed Paul Brush. Very sad day for the club - we have lost a good man and great servant. All the best, Bas.

My response was to a comment that I must be on a different planet because I thought Clarky to have been unsuccessful as a manager.

I agree with you that I’ve maybe made insufficient allowance for the fact that he was player/manager. This would have been a telling extra responsibility on such a young guy, although I’m sure he said at the time that he wanted to carry on playing whilst managing.
To even things out, Jobson loosened the purse stings to help him. Butler cost about £80K, Sammy was about £40K and David Crown cost around £30K together with a number of other smaller fees paid, not inconsiderable sums of money more than 20 years ago for a struggling 3rd Division club.

I don’t have any stats in front of me but I reckon we took about 15 or 16 points from our last 11 games the season we went up from the Fourth, ok form but hardly setting the world alight. True we beat Wolves 1-0 on the run in, the only club to do so as the season ended but I still believe the credit for promotion that year was down to Dave Webb. He built a team from nothing for almost nothing and managed it for most of the season, after a dreadful start in his first few games.

Can’t deny though the thrill of the end of the following season. You are quite right-League winners rather than relegation form for the last 7 games resulting in the coffin lid being prised open just as it looked like it was about to be nailed down.

Nonetheless, I still don’t think Paul Clark is the answer to our current problems. Too long out of day to day involvement with the game and, even though it seems to be an opinion confined only to myself, not that successful when he had the managers job back in the 80’s.

Agree the issue of the ground was always going to catch up with us in the end. Our 10 year failure to get moved into a new one also means we're no better than the Wimbledon of old.

Agree, what harm did Hitler do ...

You do not have a bloodly clue what is going on inside the club, therefore, no-one gives a toss what you think.

Instead of support the club in a relegation fight, you propose we start an anti-Ron protest. Great idea

We DONT want Ron out! Do you even know what the hell you are going on about? He owns everything and if he leaves we will go out of business. :madman:

I can't see why you're comparing Hitler to Ron? No-one has made that comparison so i'm a little lost?? Unless your advocating they're both murderers, which i could agree with. One, being guilty of mudering millions of innocents, and one being guilty of murdering a football club.

It's fairly obvious what is going on inside the club. It's a ****-storm. It's dirty laundry has been regularly paraded in local newspapers and most recently on national TV. You can choose to accept it or not, but it's right infront of your eyes. You're being naieve or ignoring it on purpose. I can't decide which.

Ron has got us into this relegation mess. It was negligence that lead to our money problems in the first place. Mismanadgement is an understatement. Now, our short-term future has been neglected in favour of Ronald World and we're deep in trouble because of it. Ron even said himself; "relegation would be fatal". Again we've been mis-managed. These monumental episodes in the SUFC tale have to be someone's fault. It hasn't happened by accident. Ron being the main man, therefore MUST take the flak.

Do we want Ron to stay? No. But if he leaves then we're ****ed as he is holding all the cards. Basiclly we're stuck with him, untill Ron decides he's had enough

Do you really believe Tilly will be aloud to speak his mind? His real thoughts on the matter will probably never be made public, unless of course 1) he resigns, 2) Ron resigns

OK, I'll try again...

I think we can assume from his comment that if we went down Ron wouldn't be able to afford Staffords, if that happened he could end up being Doc from Back To The Future Mk II. My fear is that he will end up in the Tony and Guy salon and that Martin thought he had to do something to stop the barnet rot...

Ron can never win because some people on here expect too much. He said he will try and get a new stadium, everyone expects a new stadium in a year. There are a few delays, everyone blames Ron. Some people protest to push the stadium though. Ron tries so hard to meet the demand that he spends a lot of money in proposals etc. Now everyone is surprised the money is gone.

Some people are still asking where the Eastwood, Hooper money has gone, thinking that business is as easy as a-b-c. :madman:

You are Geoffrey King and I claim my £5

I'm the nice board member that no-one cares about ..... If I were GK I would have said this :

Brush was brought in to help our defense. We now have baldy Barrett who keeps trying to rape players in the penalty area, M'voto who has the turning circle of a tank, Baldwin who is a Col ewe scum bag. *turns to Ron* see I can do PR! *headbutts the interviewer*

I know Tilly isn't the brightest spark, but surely he must realise that, despite the poor run of results, he has the backing of the majority (if not all) of the fans. Ron is being blamed for the serious lack of investment in players this year.

So why doesn't he tell it like it is? Have some backbone man!!!

The stadium debacle has nothing to do with dwindling support for Ron. And you say people expect too much, but i don't think it's too much too expect the man in charge to actually run the company properly. Can you show me any evidence that this has been done?

Do you not agree we have been severely mismanaged? Is it not obvious, and i mean blatantly obvious we've been ****ed?
