Noel Hunt set for medical at Southend United

Not surprised my post attracts attention as Thompson quite often splits opinion on here. He did improve somewhat in the couple of months before his injury however it depends what you believe are essential attributes for a centre-half. For me he often looked like an accident waiting to happen as his positional sense is poor and he gets turned too easily by competent forwards. As you say he's only young and hopefully will continue to improve, for this reason I'd be happy if he signed on as 4th choice CB in League One. There was a time when seeing Prosser's name on the team-sheet scared the life out of me so there's no reason why Thompson can't continue to progress into a decent centre-half. It's easy to forget though that Prosser has been terribly unlucky in the past two years with two long-term injuries taking him out of the side when he was arguably our most in-form player at those times. The guy is reminiscent of John White in that he very rarely has a bad game and is a highly reliable member of the squad, Adam Barrett-esque too in that he'll throw his body in the way of anything. I'd be far more annoyed if LP was allowed to leave before Thompson, who if what I hear is correct may well be back off to L2 shortly. Good luck to him if that is the case, I'm sure Brown will have someone in mind to replace him if he departs.

Agree with all of that

He's only 32 both Harris and Freeman were 34 when they signed, i take it you and Mrsblue must be gutted we gave 35 year old Adam Barrett a new contract this year...
There are 33/35 year olds that keep them self fit.... I used to talk to freddy a fair bit down Bellinis, he was always on it!

I wonder if we are looking at consolidation? I am not sure an aging strike force with experience will do us any harm this term. Mooney is class. Hunt, who knows? But if on two year deals would you expect them to do so well another year older and in the Championship? Could do with the likes of Pigott to balance things.

mooney class not sure about that .hunt will score more .I think a poll needed:smile:

According to The Sun, Hunt has already signed a two year deal. Not sure if that's been mentioned on this thread but make of that what you will...

I make of it what I always make of things I read in the Sun/Daily Mail - it's complete bollocks.

Hunt has never been a goal scorer....he is a forward with a very good footballing brain, bringing others in very well. I genuinely believe a front two of hunt and mooney would be very good.

Bugger - I've read all 10 pages and the 'best' comment was no. 10 on page 1.

If Hunt provides opportunities for Wordsworth, Leonard, Timlin, Worral etcetera to get 4 or 5 goals each then we will manage to stave off the threat of relegation ...... and then start to dream of more.

Harris and Freedman did not do a lot for us in their time here, particularly Freedman.
I would prefer to see promising youngsters given a chance.

What I don't understand, seriously, is why Chris Phillips made a big thing of the medical if we weren't necessarily expecting an outcome announced today. I was also a bit uneasy with some of the words Brown used regarding the medical

On the plus side it looks as if Bentley will be back for the Orient game following illness.
I thought it was a family member had passed away? So it was said... Mmmm

If you actually read the article it doesn't sound like Brown is absolutely convinced the deal for Hunt is 100%.

A medical is not always the final step in a deal.

I was hoping it was me misreading it, maybe not then, ho hum.
