Noel Hunt set for medical at Southend United

So many of these posts are just unbelievable. He may be 32, but he's a brilliant and experienced addition to the squad. Someone who can mentor the younger players and still play a huge role himself. I personally think Hunt is a real coup for us at this level and he'll be a big success this season.

I can understand people are disappointed that we didn't battle Villa for Rudy Gestede, missed out on Patrick Bamford on loan or that we can't stump up a six figure sum for Izale McLeod, but please seriously get real.

surely everyone knows by now this is shrimpermoan.... If we signed messi, people would complain he was too short!

Freedman was in better shape than Hunt......that's saying something.... it's going to be another Roslin, bit part player... Costing the club loads....

Freedman was in great shape when he signed. He then got a freak injury which he rushed back from to try to avoid being a bit part player costing the club loads.

Yeah, the geezer's a short arse, don't want him....Sometimes it's easier to post depressive stuff if it's how you feel all the time, it's just an extension of your character.

Why are you so obsessed with his age he's 32 not 42 theres lots of players playing at a higher level who are 4 or 5 years older than he is. Its not like the 70's when players smoked 40 fags a day and by 32 their lungs were shot modern sportsman look after themselves and are much fitter.

The last 2 seasons Noel had the maximum minutes on the pitch available which was around 10,000,however he only managed around 2000,Most clubs would be running a mile with that knowledge and he only managed 3 goals which again most clubs would be unwilling to offer any contract.

Yet Ron who has been bitten by these type of signings many times appears to be oblivious to the warning signs.

If Noel signs and plays more than 20 games,I would be shocked.

He spent last season at Ipswich who had Daryl Murphy, Freddie Sears and David McGoldrick in their team. He was only going to be a support player for them. Given that Ipswich finished in the Championship play off last season and in Daryl Murphy had the divisions top scorer do you really think we would be signing one of their regular players.

Daryl Murphy is in fact a prime example of a player who makes a complete mockery of your obsession with stats and age. In the 8 seasons prior to 2013 he had scored 34 goals in 222. Since turning 30 he has scored 40 goals in 92 appearances and last season he scored 27 in 46 games.

No doubt though at 32 you consider him too old.

We shall see in due course.

Indeed we will. For the record I am not expecting him to anywhere near as prolific as Daryl Murphy has been at Ipswich in the last 2 seasons. If he can create scoring opportunities for other players and chip in with around 10 goals I would consider him a good signing.

you don't seem to understand. It doesn't matter if he is fundamental to our success in games. If the stats don't show at least 20goals then he was crap !:dim:

Hunt, Mooney and Wordsworth... really looking forward to seeing these three in the team together! Yes we have not got a big squad to choose from at the moment but the players we have in are all looking good. Hopefully we can get a couple more in but we have lots to be positive about and hopefully lots to look forward!
